No, Romero,s best attributes are when he's facing the attack, steps out early and kills it before it starts. Go back to pre Ange, when he would step out and tackle players well before they got to our box, he has that ability to shut down attacks early.

Secondary is in those type of situations, he's the kind of defender attackers don't like to play against, I go back to that City game where Haaland was flying coming into the game, game starts, Romero crunches him close to half line, Haaland ran away the rest of the match.

The passing and carry stuff is just a bonus.

The issue is he can't play that way if he (and the other CB/FB would would be expected to cover when he steps up) are constantly running towards their own goal because the system has everyone out of position and outnumbered.

This is back to Ange making very good players look like brick.

What we're doing is not defending though, it's reacting.

Players spent 20 years being instructed that there a principles involved in protecting the goal then a manager comes along and chucks that all in the bin.

I don't ever remembering us under any manager before giving up the same type of chances over and over to the point me and you could predict how the opposition will score

Opposition centre mid with 20 yards of space, able to drive at heart of defence.

But I do remember many defenders being poor and making mistakes under other managers
