To me, it seems as if he is extending the domestic policies of penalising or not individual firms to extract 'favours'. He has law firms, social media companies, etc., coming to him on bended knee. Now he wants countries to be beholden to him and his whims in a similar manner and is using tariffs as the stick to do it. Needless to say, he has no notion of what he is doing. He is a simpleton surrounded by other economic illiterates.
There may be some upsides to the end of globalisation, from a climate perspective in particular, though a managed post-growth trajectory would be less painful than outright economic collapse.

And the Judiciary has been weakened. Power corrupts especially when all former opponents are falling into line. Imagine the head fudge that gives to someone with his ego. He thinks he can do anything. It's odd that there are not sufficient checks and balances on Executive power in the US.

The last time America had a crash on the world economy like this, you saw the rise of Nazism in Germany. So you have the combined effect of the curtailing of USAID and then these tariffs. The effect on smaller countries will be catastrophic and make the world less safe.
 
So now they are saying that the Federal sacked workforce will be going into labour jobs to prop up extra manufacturing..................beyond parody
 
I'm following the Alt National Park Service on Facebook, seemingly an organised resistance group who sometimes posts in codes and gives lots of interesting insight - both on Trump's dismantling of US institutions and on the resistance movement. For instance, they claim 5,3 million Americans protested Trump in various rallies earlier this week.

It's interesting and infuriating, but shows that there is a lot of dissent within the US population.

And, unfortunately, means nothing as they tighten their authoritarian grip on every aspect of the country.

They continued their purge of the military today with the firing of Shoshana Chatfield.

It’s quite probably already too late.

The conservatives on the US supreme court are corrupt to the core. Here is the latest example. There is no need for them to stay this order but Roberts did anyway.
