American politics

I. Have been yo America 5 times and loved it, great people I meet. Can't believe how bad it's gone.

I may disagree with most of you on other political matters but I agree totally on Trump. I have always called him out as a loon who should be on prison.

Can barely typs this tonight as I'm shaking so badly. But for the record I have always hated him.

Good health and hope you rest up easy Chich

He has not accounted for the fact other countries are now taking time to work out their trade deals and figuring out, they might not actually need the US.

Surprised other countries did not go to Ukraine and offer better terms then America for its safety.

The EU and this is not just me flagging them off because I don't like them but the EU has been awful and stupid in their dealings with Ukraine. Could have helped it out and made money.

Loads of member states are doing that though right? I mean France has put a fair bit in, all of it loans against future pay backs or trade on Ukrainian reserves

I thought the EU had already loaned 18bn or something like that too?

Don't know about recently but at the start when Ukraine really needed them they were crap, as much as I hate Trump he is kind of right the Europeans should be doing more to protect their own.

The EU love to act all high and mighty on so many different matters but not so much when it comes to protecting its continent. That or they just want someone else to pay for it.

You could argue that America has made it their business, literally, to be actively involved in Europes business over the last 70 odd years

You would be an idiot to do so. Yes they have been involved. But what was Europe doing allowing the security of the region to be secured by a country from outside it.

Obvious reasons why the Germans did not do more, considering its history. But the rest of the countries, UK included allowed the yanks to do it all.

The U.S. tariff rate on Chinese imports will shoot up to 104% at 12:01 a.m. ET on Wednesday, a White House official confirmed to CNBC.

Trump on Monday had threatened to raise existing tariffs on China by 50% on Wednesday unless Beijing dropped its retaliatory duties on U.S. goods by Tuesday.

That same day, Trump said he specified that China faced a deadline of "12 o'clock" to remove its tariffs.

Beijing vowed that it would not scrap its 34% retaliatory tariffs.

He's never winning a trade war with China.

Im not sure "Allowed" is the right term considering how Germany was divided up post war before the EU even existed, then came the cold war and how the US convinced the world that everyone was a spy. Vietnam and other conflicts are evidence of the US getting involved when not needed. Its as much about them muscling in than absolutely anything else.

Not great for people's pensions, my fund is quite heavily weighted to the US
Won't be retiring for another 10 plus years os not massively bothered right now though
Think it will come down more over the next few years. Was overheated in the first place plus declining standards in the west.

Can understand the desire to get jobs into America, but think it will be impossible to get low skilled jobs back because other developing countries will fo it cheaper. The rest of the world can and should cut America out.

One of the reasons to be pro brexit was because of the desire to trade with the rest of the world. I generally believe in free trade with all nations not Russia and North Korea.

If he were sensible he would go for high skilled jobs particularly in the green economy as it's the future, it's what the UK should do as well.

It's almost like in some people's world that WWII didn't happen; that the US didn't use it, and the aftermath, to make loads of money from the conflict, the ruins, and make huge political capital out of it.
It's like, in some people's world, the Berlin wall didn't exist - it only came down 35 years ago. Most people on here were alive then!

But some peoples worlds don't let real life get in the way of a good prejudice

The more I think about it, the more I realise that these tariffs aren't about politics, production or any of that.
As always, it's just about him! That 70+year old baby.

He needs to be the centre of attention all the time, and this is more of that. All he wants is that everyone have to come to him and negotiate a deal. The more useless and small country, the better.
They have to come to HIM and beg, and then he can brag about 'making so many deals'. 'No one has ever made more deals'.

And if you go through those deals, afterwords, they'll be pretty much exactly as it was before, only specific for each country, instead of one deal for a large number of countries.

That's what this is about. It's just about him. Nothing else.
And he even admits it himself now...

Trump now finished buying the dip, pauses most tariffs for 90 days.
I was halfway through a podcast episode about the tariffs. Might as well turn it off now. fudging madness.
He backed down, like all bullies who are confronted. The US has no credibility left.

edit: Maybe it was all about shorting the market. I have no idea.
