Yeah. My kids get more upset about football than I do. I miss half the matches now because I am 'busy' whereas a few years back that would be unthinkable. Other things on my mind these days I guess.

The assistant pretty much said at half time that they were waiting for Argentina to flag and for the energy of the premier league players to carry them through. It didn’t happen and they seemed devoid of any ideas after that. Quite like what you see in Europe when some English teams go out. When the physicality doesn’t win the game there is often no idea what else to do

Yeah, there's probably quite something in that. The squad make up was more of runners and passers. If England had been able to play a Gibbs-White or Wharton they might have been able to keep more of the ball in the last 25 minutes last night

I think you have to also realise that when you switch to that defensive 5 you start moly cannot have your key players like Anderson as deep as your centre halves. It just invites the pressure.
Nobody can surely build a case for Harry being the 1 in a 5-4-1 either. How is that fair to a 32 year old in the last third of an intense game? You need a workaholic runner at 9 to offer angles and get into the channels.

Thought we were the better team until we scored. Trying a low block for 30mins plus stoppage, is asking a lot, and as @Rorschach says, if you're going to do it, do it properly.

Seeing as its came up on another thread and I know some on here have moved abroad or like me are thinking of it, would love to hear any stories of why? how its been? Cultural changes? Pitfalls? Plus points etc etc
As mentioned elsewhere seriously considering Cambodia, in particular Siem Reap as it has turned into a really cool and cosmopolitan city, great expat community and the value for money is insane. I accept somewhere becomes "the norm" over time like it does here, but still, change of scene might be needed.

Yeah, that's not great. It is not exactly a 'rocket into the upper left quadrant'. He might have been a bit unsighted is his only defence (literally).

I actually think Kane being a bit deeper in the 4 would be more of a weapon to release counters ... perhaps more in a 451 ...one man up top (Watkins or Toney?) and keep the wingers defensive but pacy for counters.
Means he can cut down on the running (just shutting around in a containing midfield) but he's deadly at perfect passing if we knick it off them.

Tuchel got it wrong. Think he looked at what you did against Mexico and thought he could do it v Argentina. To be fair to Argentina, their pulling apart of England was impressive. The amount of times they changed the angle of the attack to create openings, how difficult they were to knock off the ball, Messi. 39 years of age and he was magnificent in that last 20 mins for me. It’s not easy to play against that sort of set up but Argentina created a stack of chances with some great and intelligent play. They never panicked.
Tuchel got it wrong, for lots of the reasons outlined above by other posters, but the condemnation of him I’ve seen from people online and the likes of Cundy and O’Hara is ridiculous. He’s a top manager who made a really bad call at a crucial time. It’s not a hanging offence.

Apparently, nobody picked up on that, but, while at PSG, Tuchel had a reputation for his lax match preparations and video analysis, preferring to trust his 'instincts'. I'm biased because I never rated him in the first place. He struck gold while at Mainz and, from there, he only worked for big clubs, never staying too long in the same place.
I find the above rumor credible because my gut feeling is, he's got a decent system on paper but, unlike a lot of top managers, results tend to nose-dive the longer he stays, which would indicate that the theory is sound but he either can't or won't put up the necessary work to adapt to the opposition/circumstances. Of course, it's just my intuition, and certainly not a FACT - as people used to type all the time on message boards twenty years ago.
