World Cup 2026: Mexico, USA and Canada

It's easy to blame tuchel and he undoubtedly deserves criticism, but this has become a theme with England regardless of the manager.
There's no lack of talent in England, but that certain attitude or mind set that is needed to force your way over the line is missing.

2 key moments on the pitch

Rogers counter when the brain dead idiot tried to shoot through a defender rather than lay it off

And the more I see it, the more I think Pickford should be saving this.

Tactics were brick as well

Harry Kane is very good in the group matches. As the tournament goes on he gets progressively worse. his energy levels specifically. Its been like this at multiple tournaments now and hinders the team

The assistant pretty much said at half time that they were waiting for Argentina to flag and for the energy of the premier league players to carry them through. It didn’t happen and they seemed devoid of any ideas after that. Quite like what you see in Europe when some English teams go out. When the physicality doesn’t win the game there is often no idea what else to do

Yeah, there's probably quite something in that. The squad make up was more of runners and passers. If England had been able to play a Gibbs-White or Wharton they might have been able to keep more of the ball in the last 25 minutes last night

I think you have to also realise that when you switch to that defensive 5 you start moly cannot have your key players like Anderson as deep as your centre halves. It just invites the pressure.

Nobody can surely build a case for Harry being the 1 in a 5-4-1 either. How is that fair to a 32 year old in the last third of an intense game? You need a workaholic runner at 9 to offer angles and get into the channels.

Agreed; actually the tactics look even more macaronic when you put it like that...

Pickford should have got to their first. Replay of Bellingham was shown after the match last night where he’s clearly seen saying ‘it’s in the middle of the goal’

Poor subs, some poor performances from starters too. Didn’t deserve to go through in my opinion. With hindsight I don’t think they were the better team against Norway either. Only so long you can play like that before being found out
Thought we were the better team until we scored. Trying a low block for 30mins plus stoppage, is asking a lot, and as @Rorschach says, if you're going to do it, do it properly.

Anyway, go spain.
Wrong thread.

Yeah, that's not great. It is not exactly a 'rocket into the upper left quadrant'. He might have been a bit unsighted is his only defence (literally).

England got what they deserve, I've been around long enough to know when you set out to solely defend you're surrendering the game. We were doing alright until we scored and the manager's bottle went. Rice was obviously still not fit along with Saka. Poor squad selection did not help.
It wasn't any different to what we did in the Europa League final.

Hence why I checked out mentally and emotionally years ago.

Feel indifferent about it this morning.

I actually think Kane being a bit deeper in the 4 would be more of a weapon to release counters ... perhaps more in a 451 ...one man up top (Watkins or Toney?) and keep the wingers defensive but pacy for counters.
Means he can cut down on the running (just shutting around in a containing midfield) but he's deadly at perfect passing if we knick it off them.
