*** Tottenham Hotspur vs Crystal Palace***OMT ***

Sorry but I feel entitled to mention the comparison between the results. If we can put out a team that beats the best team in the Country then we sure as **** should be able to assemble a team that can beat what we saw out there today. Calling people a melt is pretty rediculous mate.

You are absolutely right mate, you are entitled (and to be fair to you, I don't see you flipping all over the place week in week out)...It might be ridiculous but I cannot lie. People banging on and on and on about stuff like without context literally 'melts' me. Apologies if you find the term offensive, I find this match-by-match up and down 'brilliant and not' without context pretty offensive.

Incredibly reactive statement. Up until the penalty he has played his best game. Good in possesion and amazing under pressure. Then he goes and spoils it. For me he got some of the ball but he gave the Ref a chance to make a decision and he did. He should not be even making a challenge in the box there, it was not needed.

Dembele was one of our better players. Always showing and good in possesion. His early passing in the second half set up our best chances. But Chadli and Townsend were awful, they did nothing on the ball and were just standing there defensively. Eriksen did not have one of his best games but he was still around, still showed nice touches and keep it tidy if not spectacular.

Soon as they equalizsed we should have stabalized. But Poch lost us the game for me here. He made too many changes. Suddenly we have two up front and three defensive midfielders on the pitch. He takes of townsend but the move was to bring on lennon. Capoue for me is not very good defensively. And dont get me started on Soldado. It forced Kane to play deeper and we lost our cutting edge with it.

Reactive? He was rash, from minute one to whenever he was taken off. I've completely discounted the penalty, it was a mistake (you can't commit like that in the Premier League when you're not sure of the pace of your opponent), but he was asking for a red card more than once after he received his yellow, and lacked the ability to press or take control of the game in the way that Bentaleb could. Yes, he was technical, which is one of his strengths: however, that doesn't make up for the rest of his game, which was sub-par.

It isn't reactive, it's an opinion I held from the first rash tackle he made and the first time he was too far from the man on the ball when Palace advanced into out half.

As for Poch losing us the game, absolute pish. His lack of options forced the changes he did have to make. Bringing Lennon on was no silver bullet solution, considering that we were bring driven at from left, right and centre. What we needed was a DM duo capable of controlling play in the manner of Mason-Bentaleb. What we got was Capoue, Stambouli and Dembele, none of whom convinced today.

Capoue was terrible when he came on.
Dembele was weak when we needed him to stand up and fight.

Absolutely sick of ****ing melts going on and on and on about Chelski result and this result when the central midfield was 100% different in both personnel and style. Yes, Dembele came on in that game, but Bentaleb and later Paulinho were there to help keep things fluid.

But Poch is well aware of the situation. He's trying to get a proper 25 man squad, and he's trying to shift the deadweight strollers. One of those came on today and I personally hope he never, ever plays for us again.

That ref was disgraceful though. Never a pen and clear, clear trip on Kane in the box ignored. Numerous free kicks given for what?

Onwards and upwards. COYS!

How you can **** off Dembele is bizarre. One of our better players I felt. Sk the cm was half the same, we looked okay with stam in there, it was bringing on Capoue which ****ed it (never mind the absolute formation destruction that poch did to us).

How do you know poch is aware of the situation? Why's he putting Kaboul in the bench and not Dier? Why did he play ade kaboul and capoue fkr the first quarter of the season? Why's he gone back to picking rose ahead of the infinitely better Davies? Why townsend starting games now? Aware is the last word I'd use to describe poch. Never mind we're ru lured with the likes Delph and Ings... Hopefully bull****, but I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest, poch loves acerage players.

We lost the game in central midfield.
If Mason isn't back Eriksen and Veljkovic to start there against Burnley please.
We might play with a tempo once again.

Completely disagree. Dembele and Stambouli bossed the first half but the three behind kane offered them no options and no chances for early release. Second half Dembele picks out some nice early passes and Kane lifts us. But Chadli and Townsend were poor and Eriksend was ok. So with out three creative players doing nothing in front of them what was we supposed to do. So Poch changed it up. Went 4-4-2 and we lost it all over the pitch from that point on.

Do think it's funny that people are using this awful display to say we miss mason. Who's absence was the reason we demolished Chelsea. The last thing we missed today was mason. Having s manager not destroy our system would help. Not playing townsend would've helped. Not bringing on Capoue would've helped.

Agreed. We did'nt lose because of the ref no matter how much we may want to cling to that. Of course, some of our players are not good enough but the players we did have out there, were better then those who Crystal Palace had. But we still lost. No excuses. None.

I did not say we lost because of the ref FFS. Once again someone says something and it's taken off to the races...I said the ref was shocking and any luck we've had was negated.
You going to deny that?
Not a pen, we had a clear one denied and the ref gave us very little.
Do you deny that those things happened?
If you accept they did, then you have to accept they contributed to the result.

As I have tried to clearly say, Poch is dealing with a squad which is not as strong as people think and has some issues.

p.s. an edit...Shaney, sorry if this comes across as hostile, I've read it back over and it certainly could do. So apologies, not meant that way, just offering some spirited debate. I think the truth of the day lies in the middle of it all most likely. Be well mate...

What goes around, comes around.
Previously we got lucky (including refs' decisions) several times.
Stupid mistakes in defence, needless Stambouli's tackle, put our foot from the gas while winning 1-0. Weak midfield. I already miss both Mason and Bentaleb.

We robbed rich and gave away to the poor.
Robin Spur.

I think that is a fair point, we lack in game management, even against Chelsea we let them get a hold in a game we were winning 4-1. We need to punish teams after we gain an advantage by exploiting their response. That is how top teams triumph and the lesser teams falter. We got an advantage today and threw it away so cheaply that we didn't deserve a point so fair play Cyrstal Palace and their fans who were vocal throughout for a deserved 3 points.

no need to go overboard, we lost it rather than palace winning it, they didn't really cause us many problems, both goals were give aways, it happens

Angry. Disappointed. Not disheartened. Pardew and Palace ****ed me off to no end.

Expected a close fought game and got it. Very marginal stuff going on out there, we didn't get the marginal stuff we needed to get a point or the win.

The with/without Bentaleb stat is getting more and more ridiculous by the game. Let's hope the rest of the lads manage to step it up until he's back and correct it somewhat. Clearly missed him, Mason and Lamela today.

Still a process, still a lot of work to be done. The end result today doesn't change that and wouldn't have changed that regardless of outcome.

Suddenly Benteleb and Mason our world beaters. Amazing. Poch changed formation and brought on two useless players in Capoue and Soldado and yes he lost us the game from that point on. We lost control of midfield and moved Kane out of the position he has been scoring from. SO yes that is all on Poch.

Dembele played well. re-watch the game and pick out the players that really did no play and it was not him or Stambouli. I twas Chadli, Townsend and Eriksen.

The ref was influenced by the crowd and the Pardew-mania, and was bad. And he did influence the result. But equally, we shouldn't be looking to the ref as the difference-maker: if we can't beat the other team regardless of the ref (Who nine times out of ten is just average, regardless of what the fans think), then it's our team that ultimately has failed. We should be looking to internalize that fact, and use it to push ourselves to be more objective and focused on what we can control as opposed to the unknown ref factor.

Its like taking the cpu out of whatever youre writing this on and replacing it with some a cpu from a spectrum.
It would sit there slow as ****.
Without Mason and Bentaleb recycling everything with simple one touch football the entire team grinds to a halt.
At one point I threw my hands up at Stambouli taking a full 5 seconds to pass it to Dembele who then interviewed everyone on the pitch before knocking it back to Fazio who decided to ignore the blockage in front of him and knocked it long and lost it.
Fazio has not being knocking it long for us before.

Thank you for arriving to post some common sense.

It's best I depart for a while because this thread is starting to do my head in...

No problem. I'm an old fart and the term just seemed derogatory(sp). No harm done and I see your point.

Once again there was no tempo to our play. Once again we allowed the game to meander along after we scored, almost inviting Palace to score. How many times does this happen? Stupid little five yard square and backwards passes in mid field. It gives the opposition a sniff, they see that we pose no great threat and they push forward and start creating chances.

Superbly put.

I resemble that remark myself Sir. Certainly would not wish to shorten your contributions mate, so just consider them the words of a grump who probably should avoid match threads as they go on ;-)
Be well and COYS!

They were let have the ball in their own half and sat deep so that the three would have little space.
Mason and Bentaleb would have knocked balls into feet regardless and hoped something would have broke.
Dembele and Stambouli 'bossed it' in their own half holding possession pointlessly AVB style.
