Timo Werner

You think we're going to pay the fee and wages to have Son, Werner and a 3rd LWF competing for one spot? When we dont have any capable defensive cover whatsoever (bar Dragusin)?
Since when is buying a defender and an attacker mutually exclusive? And you do know we will be playing more than 41 games next season, right?

We have a transfer budget and a salary cap. They are very related.

We can only have 25 senior players, so we just have to be very careful about accumulating bed blockers. Look at all the senior players we had to loan out last season because there was no space for them and we couldnt sell them.

If Solomon can get a few games fit next season then we'll actually have options without yet having to spend big money on that area of the squad

All confirmed now

Another loan with an option to buy. Nice to be doing what clubs always seem to do to us with the likes of Lo Celso et al.

Seems a great way to do it. The wage bill has a bit of wiggle room given losing the likes of Lloris, Perisic and Dier and we can keep funds for other areas that need strengthening whilst maintaining the depth we had.

Happy with Werner as a starter or cover across the front line and he was obviously happy here during his 1st loan spell.

Don't think he really showed himself to be all that great tbh and as i said in another thread I'd rather we were targetting a player who can potentially step up and replace Son as he appears to be on the wane.

That said, extending a loan isn't the same as buying him outright. If we upgrade CF this summer and then LWF next summer after the loan finishes i can live with that.

Same here. Don’t think he really did enough to warrant signing him or even extending the loan. Must be someone better out there or someone younger worth taking a punt on.

Doesn't hurt our transfer budget, fits the system, senior head, his finishing is not great but his passing is more than capable.

With multiple cup competitions, good cover/rotation, allows any younger player a little more time to settle.

Done early as well ..
Im not sure he fits the system especially. The combination of him, Son and Johnson was the least effective front line we've had since Bent and Pav. It was 3 players wanting to play on the break, for a possession based side

Because Ange's play is winger deep, cross back to edge of box or across front of goal. Timo, Son & Johnson all do that relatively well, it worked when you had a poacher/striker (go look at all of Richi's goals, see how many fit that exact play)

Nusa had question marks around his fitness (regardless of if sorted) and will be another Johnson, it will take him a season to get close to level.

Werner is the option that allows you to go buy that other attacker, allows you to rotate while keeping same system, allows young players to sit out a game or two when it's not working, all for the cost of wages? (we have lots of room there).

This is like arguing about Ben Davies, it's a squad play that has no real impact on our other business. What happens if we don't, we buy a Nusa and he gets injured in first week or takes 6 months to settle in. More importantly, go watch Ange's interview in Australia when asked, think it was relatively easy to figure out he wants him ..
