The Other Clubs Transfer Rumours and News Thread

1612:
BREAKING TRANSFER NEWS

Liverpool have agreed an £8.5m deal for Inter Milan's Brazilian midfielder, Philipe Coutinho. The 20-year-old is expected to travel to Merseyside early next week for a medical and Liverpool will need to apply for a work permit before the deal can be completed.

So no one actually knows if he is any good?

I would have thought they would want to sign a decent winger but they don't really have any decent attacking creative midfielders either.

He was promising 3 years ago. They were gonna build the team around him, but he hasn't developed much at all IMO. Partly down to injuries of course, but I never really saw anything in the first place. Just because you're picked up by a big club at an early age it doesn't mean you'll become a top quality player.

You'd see similar here if we sold what was considered a promising youngster. Fans have a harder time accepting that one of their own might not be as good as they think.

Well they actually rate him as a player too.

Anyway Liverpool are making the same mistake Ramos made with us. Filling the team with a group of technically gifted players with little height and strength in this league is a dangerous game. Coutinho, Sturridge, Allen, Lucas, Suarez, and Sterling are not exactly aerially dominating are they? hell Gerrard, Enrique, Johnson, Shelvey, etc etc are not much better either. You need a balance imo and they haven't got it.

How many times have you seen him play?

Coloccini? About 180 times.

Sissoko about 10 times, he had a poor season last season but has looked better this season. Current French international. You had a £12M bid turned down about 2 years ago and were quoted in excess of £20M.

Don't expect that's it for us, we're still after a replacement for Demba Ba, had a £10M bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang rejected today.

But Ian Ayre said they had the most balanced squad in the league...

He's still only 20 though, very early to say.

Seems like a decent deal for them, always exciting to get a young Brazilian player, especially one who has a name that ends with -inho :)

Interesting point.

I think Swansea actually look better this season with the ability to mix it up a bit more compared to last season when they were great at their style, but a bit one dimensional.

Will be interesting to see how Rodgers develops Liverpool. I don't think they're anywhere near good enough yet to go for a Barca style only small technical players and could do with a plan B player. Even Wenger has gone for Giroud who brings exactly that to them. Someone to cross it to, someone who can win a fudging header up front.

Thank GHod, he's really not developed to the level he was expected to....
