Anyone watching the Lisbon Althelitco game?

Just looking forward to watching a game I have no emotional ties in, seeing as most of those have been brick in recent times. First time of seeing the Wolfswinkel fella.

No one?

Been a pretty poor game, not settled down at all and plenty of hoofing it both ways.

Having said that, I do like the look of the Dutch striker, seeing as we obviously need to overhaul our strike force it'd make sense to bring in someone young and hungry like him if he wasn't too much. Obviously I''ve only seen him play 45 minutes so I'm not suggesting he should be our number one target in any shape or form,

I think I'm just a bit desperate for a signing that has a "oooh" vibe to it to be honest, an unknown quantity who could turn out to be the final piece in our puzzle, someone to get the fans on the edge of their seats, someone to give their all for the club, someone who's not Louis fudging Saha....

Should put this in the striker thread obviously but when you think about it our striker situation is pretty fudged isn't it, one on loan who most likely, one pretty much finished and pretty toss, and one who has been a good servant to the club but is most likely pretty bitter about not being involved and essentially just doesn't fit our system.

And Chelsea beat them. Defending brilliantly. And Bilbao are not close to most teams in the premiership, they have a couple of great players who who can turn it on. People who say 'they must be great they beat the best team in the premier league" are so idiotic. Wigan beat Man u are they the best team in the premier league?! It means nothing, especially in a cup which is widely disrespected.

Barca had 24 shots, Chelsea had 4. Barca had 15 shots on target, Chelsea had 2. (Stats from BBC). If that was after Chelsea "defended brilliantly" then it only enhances the massive difference in class between the teams.

Bilbao did very well against United, they didn't just beat them - they won and deservedly so. That tournament might be disrespected, but United put out a team that was very close to their best team. I didn't actually say that Bilbao was "a great team", I responded to you saying that the Spanish league is "tinkle poor". At the very least that result and performance should go some way towards disproving that "tinkle poor statement".

I find it quite strange how you use Chelsea beating Barca as evidence of how Barca aren't as good as people are saying, but when I bring up the Bilbao-United games that result means nothing? Seems inconsistent to me.

Not sure roulette is a good comparison... The odds are fixed

Here is a scenario:

Wolves (4/1) are playing Everton (6/5) at home

10000 punters back wolves to win

There are no bets on Everton

What happens to the odds...?

Yes, the odds are fixed. But the point is that in the long run the casino makes money of those, even if they risk big losses on a single outcome.

In that case the odds would be changed, but I've already said that the odds are changed when the betting is very heavily weighted towards one side to offset variance.

I'll tell you what f*cks me right off

All day, I've had to put up with c*unts on Talkspot spouting brick about Chelsea's "heroic" performance

And owl face c*nts tactics

Hang about

If Barcelona had score inside the first 6 f*cking minutes (instead of hitting the bar)

.....then Chelsea's so called tactics would've been completely bum raped

Drogba certainly would not have spent 20% of each half fitting on the ground

Chelsea would've been chasing the game and most likely would've been a*se raped beyond belief

F*ck me, the world is full of simpletons that have absolutely no clue about football whatsoever

Chelsea were seriously lucky to win last nights game

Not that we should be surprised after the 4 goal line clearances from us, a ghost goal, an unpunished assault and blatant offside against Wigan etc

One of the best goals ive seen this season, if not the best, by Falcao.

Controls with the chest on the side, then goes inside with elegant skill, 3 defenders around him, smacks a shot under the crossbar with his left foot.

How is it? why is it? ALOT of people look forward to it but I am lookin forward to cleaning up some stuff on saturday

I personally couldnt care less about it. I wont stay at home especially for it. I will watch it if im in the pub and its on TV or if im at home and its on TV then again I would watch paint dry if it was on TV and I had nothin else to do.

Madrid arguably the biggest club in the world. Barca easily one of the five biggest clubs in the world. A combined 13 European Cups between them, more than any other set of rivals. The current two best teams in the world. That's why.

Chelsea were seriously lucky to win last nights game - YES BUT THEY WON

Not that we should be surprised after the 4 goal line clearances from us, a ghost goal, an unpunished assault and blatant offside against Wigan etc - PART OF A FOOTBALL MATCH

Ultimately all the IFs and BUTs and diving etc is redundant because CHELSCUM WON. Therefore their tactics were in actual fact spot on.

Chelscum ARE NOT going to play Barcelona off the park.

Listen say you were in a fight you and some dude but this dude was a big fudge off dude... you had the chance to kick him in the nuts (uts a cowards way to fight) would you? its a matter of life n death - would you kick him in the nuts?

I would.

Don't worry, they won't be anywhere near as lucky in the Nou Camp. Even if Barca aren't winning the tie by say 85 minutes, the ref will give Barca a dodgy penalty and I will laugh my head off!

One of the top 10 strikers in Europe on current form. La Liga has so many great strikers at the moment, Messi, Ronaldo, Higuain, Benzema, Villa, Llorente, Falcao.

Do you think there is a way to objectively say that a game is the "biggest club game in the world bar the Champions League"?

Its all subjective isnt it? I dont think there is a "biggest club game in the world" I mean I think any game with Spurs is the biggest club game at that point.

Ultimately what is a big game to you wont be for me and so on.

For any individual person it's subjective, but that doesn't mean objective statements can't be made. We do it all the time about all kinds of things like music, books, films, tv-shows and so on. You can use different criteria, for example what is the most popular and based on that say that something is "the biggest", that doesn't mean it's the biggest for everyone, far from it.

Ok - I like Oasis, Oasis are the biggest band in the world in my opinion. It doesnt mean that they are now they can use, as you say, certain criteria (sales, stadium tours attendance etc etc etc) but ultimately it just means they have more fans.

Barca and Real - do they have more fans than anyone else? they may have more interested spectators (such as people on here) but not fans as such.

Its a big game granted but not because its Barca v Real but because Barca have to win to keep in the running for the league. Its akin to the man bricky v Manure game comin up. In essence that is bigger or at the very least just as big - but will we have a separate thread on it? not really. (not complaining about the thread - dont care)

Bilbao dingdonged all over United TWICE! Are you actually suggesting that Madrid and Barca aren't the two best teams? Who are then? United and City?

If the English teams are all so vastly superior to the Barca and the rest of the teams in Spain, then why does every English team that plays Barca spend 90% of the game camped outside their own penalty box and can't seem to muster more than 1 shot on target? In fact, if you add up all the shots on target from Arsenal, Chelsea and United in their last games against Barca, it probably wouldn't add up to more than about 5. If you can't see that Chelsea were incredibly lucky to win last shot then you clearly weren't watching the game.

No, I'm not saying that at all. I'm not saying they aren't the best two teams or even Baraca aren't the best team in the world. ALL I'm saying is that they'r enot as fudging miraculous as everyone makes out, and the brick league makes them look better than they are. Everyone said they'd embrass Chelsea, and I knew they wouldn't. And when they don't they just come up with some flimflam excuses. I do think Baraca are amazing, I do think they're the best team in the world. I was just trying to bring some perspective as everyone has gone way over board. That's all.

I think that is a pretty good criteria actually, how many people who aren't actually fans of either team will want to watch the game?

I think based on that the Classico is at the very least one of the biggest league games in world football, if not the biggest. And it's not only because of the current league situation, although that obviously increases the interest.

Perhaps, but they are certainly in the discussion amongst the best teams of the last few decades, 3 European Cups in the last 6 years, 5 semi finals, I think Barca, Madrid and Bayern are streets ahead of the rest of Europe right now. Teams don't always get what they deserve, no one can deny they completely dominated Chelsea last night and they got very lucky, despite some heroic defending. If Chelsea had lost that game 4-1, I don't think anyone could have complained. The facts are, they have made our teams look like mugs over the past 4 or 5 years, Arsenal couldn't even manage a shot on goal against them at the Nou Camp! United only managed 1 shot on goal in the final last year!

There is no doubt in my mind that La Liga has overtaken the premier league in the last year. Just look at the strikers that play in their league! Falcao, Ronaldo, Llorente, Benzema, Higuain, Messi, Villa! Look at the English teams performance in the champions league this season. When we had 3 teams in the semi finals, people would point to that and say well our league is easily the best, they can't have it both ways when we do poorly in the competition. We had this debate with african spurs the other day, quite a few posters agreed that the top 6 teams in both leagues are both evenly matched, but once you get beyond that, their league is far superior. I simply don't believe teams like Stoke and Everton would beat Bilbao or Atletico Madrid more than twice if they played each other 10 times.
