The General Transfer Rumours and Speculation Thread

You think we're going to spend £85m and bring in two such mediocre players as Berahino and Wanyama?

Firstly I do not think either are mediocre, and secondly with both of them having just a year left on their contracts I would expect each to go for no more than £15m max. Feck knows how how you managed to pull the figure of £85m out of your arse

I'd have thought it would be £60m the lot personally

Two players who want to leave and one who has a chance to step up and has been pretty loyal to his club

And I agree with @NaijaSpurs that there not mediocre players. Berahino is young enough to progress with us and be our Defoe mk2 with more strings to his game. Wanyama is a good player and was evrgood last season. I'm not sure if he is progression but he will certainly add more in the role than the likes of Bentelab or Mason who are decent players but not defensive minded

bathsuayi could be anything but looks to have the profile of a player who could work here and plays in an area where we not over covered or stocked

I agree that we need to strengthen in centre mid and up front and these players tick a lot of boxes

Even when paying full price for those players, £85m is probably on the upside of their value (£70m for me). At the same time, even including the fact that they are both running down their contracts, I'd still imagine the pair to cost £30m total whilst Batshauyi is likely to demand the same amount alone.

In all honesty, I don't see us buying both Batshauyi and Berahino. I just don't see how we would give them both sufficient game time.

At the moment I would be satisfied with just 3 signings this summer, Michy Batshuayi, Saido Berahino and Victor Wanyama

I don't have any wishes for who to sign, but Berahino easily makes it onto my list of don't. Not to keen on Wanyama either.

I think 3 new players would be ideal for us 1. Striker 2. Creative midfield 3 Dier type utility. I read so much that Woolwich, Chelski, Liverpooh, both Mancs and possibly West Spam are all going to improve with their recruitment this summer, given they all need 3 to 4 players thats 20 odd top players signing in the window. I don't play football manager or watch two/three horse leagues so have limited knowledge of the vast pool available in europe but it seem somebody is not going to be able to live their dreams.

80% of new signings flop anyway. Growing your own is a much better approach

Was considering a new thread: how do we improve on this squad?

Another 27 or 28 year old key player would be ideal imo. I would love someone like Diego Costa. He would cost the earth in wages, but would be what we need for games like tonight; someone with experience and fight to help up front.

Lamela and Son seem similar to me. Both promising, and yes Lamala has been a revelation this season, but he doesn't put away enough of his chances. Maybe next season he will. Son hasn't had a proper run of games, but has an eye for goal. Do we just need a Centre Forward? Or another creative attacking player? Or an all in one creative CF who can rotate positions?

Many flag up a CM. We have a lot of squad player but I would agree, we would benefit from cover and competition for Dier. We've seen Poch has no problem switching players based on how they train. No Spurs player should feel happy sitting back, so we need competition for every position.

If you look up Wanyama and Berahino in the dictionary the definition is mediocre. I sincerely hope the club aren't thinking like you blimey.

What an absolute car crash it would be if we signed those planks!!

Who ever Poch wants is good enough for me, and he has coached one of them before and the other we made 3 bids for while Poch was our manager last summer, so I can see the logic.

Leicester have shown this season what can be done with average players with a good attitude. Not that I think either player is average.

Berahino has goals in him, he just wanted out of a club who play long ball to a club on the up, as for Wanyama we need some proper cover for Dier and he could do the perfect job.

Berahino aka 'The attitude'. No thanks. We don't need another gangster wannabe around the club after Capoue, Ade and Lennon.

Wanyama - just no.

While I don't think either of them are worth our while, I'd rather sign players in that bracket in the hope that we can improve them than spunk £50 million a piece on total dross like City, United and Chelsea will do because they're big names with CL experience.

You won't find me disagreeing with your statement here.

I dont think he has got attitude, he is a young man who is ambitious and does not like playing for a long ball team.

D'you know what, after today, perhaps finding an enormously experienced old head with game management experience (like Cambiasso last season, for example) wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Someone who's been in CL finals and title races, and who knows what it takes; who's played for (and perhaps captained) the biggest teams and knows what that's like.

Any of our currently open backup slots (for Dier, for Kane, perhaps for Lloris if Vorm leaves) could be filled by such a man. And he could perhaps provide the spark we need to really, genuinely challenge next season, with the know-how and knowledge of the dark arts to win relentlessly, even when Pulis shows up with his usual gang of cave trolls.
