The Cricket Thread

If it were the other way round I'd feel differently but this is so so disappointing.
I don't follow cricket that closely so I guess I'm the type of fan that cricket needs to get more interested and this series has been absolutely magnificent.
Barely a session that didn't have something amazing happen and for the series to be decided like this just isn't good enough if test cricket wants to thrive.
I understand that the little foibles and idiosyncrasies of Cricket are a big part of what makes it unique and beautiful but a massive sporting event like the ashes just can't be allowed to be won like this and expect to keep the casual fan coming back for more.

I just don't think in 2023 you can justify the lsck of contingency for weather and as much as I would be praying for rain the other way, I honestly believe that. Having had tickets all over the shop be washed out its a tough take. The sport is absolutely full time now and to have a spare day should be the norm, especially in a Manchester. You can't help if you lose all the days or say 3/4 out of 5, but to have a result possible and to lose 2 days, not sure it's the future.

There is also talk of the game moving to 4 days to encourage a faster game with England's brand a plan to get a head start on that apparently, with that then there should def be a weather day.

England have been masters of the bowling at a slow over rate too so 100% include them in any criticism.

As for the overall ashes, we dropped too many catches, unforgivable.some of the them. As much as I want the game to change for the better with the above, that's where we have lost these ashes

If only Carey had of “stumped” Bairstow at the end of an over, after marking his guard, walking down to chat to his partner and umpires not even looking,… on the first day of the first test, then England would have been 3 nil up by now anyway!

4 days is silly imo, if anything, add a 6th day for contingency

Yep I stood corrected already. Essex v Hampshire, who are 2nd and 3rd, to play twice!

Surrey are not sailing away with it.

Warwickshire will have some say too.

Somerset will be tough for Surrey and as you say Warwickshire will have a say hopefully against Surrey. That's my hopes pinned

Warwicks out for 60. Personally think that is their challenge over.

Essex have the upper hand at Hants, as do Surrey at Somerset.

Can't believe they are out for 60, didn't see that coming.

Comon the Eagles, two new batters in, hopefully finish them off for a lowly score

They were 20/5.

Yeah it’s been very wet so let’s see what happens.

As I type Middlesex lose an opener straight away lol. This game won’t be a draw.

Yeh, if the balls swinging too Hampshire have one of the best bowlers in the world for those conditions

What's the prediction for the rest of this test then?

Do England collapse tomorrow and hand the Aussies a clear win or will we put up a decent and quick 300+ score, baz ball style and make them work for it?

Irrespective of the result of this series England have proved themselves to have thrown away that negative mentality which hung around the team, no more letting the scoreboard dictate how they play, they set the agenda. Today Stokes shows his leadership qualities in filling the problem no3 position, no sitting in the hutch for him, just get out there and confront the opposition, do what they least expect, it may not work but its breathed life into test cricket.

Just saying to my son how thr current England side have changed the mindset 3 years ago we would have been very pleased to see England score 54-1 in a morning session of an Ashes match and now we are ridiculing the Aussies for that.
