The Academy, NextGen, U18 & U21 Premier League and On-Loan Thread

It seems to me that Bostock has had the same problem where ever he goes. He needs to grow up and stop acting johnny big gonads, and start working hard, or his football life is over before it starts.

I really don't understand it.

Surely players like these also watch football themselves. Surely they see Xavi and Iniesta press and work for the team. Surely they see Dortmund, United, Real and the other great pressing teams around. Surely they could also see the sweat dripping off Zidane as he kept working and working and working in addition to being outstanding on the ball for his team. Yet they, who have achieved close to nothing as professional footballers think that not working for the team is the way to go, that they are somehow too good to make that run, release that easy pass or make that tackle.

Yes, you'd think they see that the top players tend to work hard too. Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Ronaldo are all hard working players. Talent alone isn't enough to be the very best in the modern game.

However, some players do need to feel they are the star attraction. Warnock explained how he took Taarabt in almost as a member of the family and made him feel important by building the team around him. It worked very well and got QPR promotion. If Di Canio can do the same to Bostock it could work out very well for Swindon. It won't translate to the PL, though.

It worked in the Championship where Taarabt must have been just head and shoulders above 99% of the players in the league in terms of quality on the ball and creativity. In the Premier League where the competition is harder and he can't just float on his ball skills alone it didn't really work. He was in and out of the team and he had some horrible performances for them, and that was accepting that having him in their team severely limited what formations they could play.

Compare that to how Pardew has handled Ben Arfa, another player coming in with a sketchy reputation and reportedly a massive ego. He was essentially used as an impact player or only played in some games with Pardew picking harder workers and more solid players in most big games until Ben Arfa was working hard enough. It's very difficult to know what goes on behind the scenes from the outside, but Saudi Sportswashing Machine had a team of almost exclusively hard working players and Ben Arfa seems to have adapted to that and although he's far from great defensively at least he gets back right side of the ball when he should.

Completely different approach to Warnock giving Taarabt the armband and freedom to do as he pleased. With completely different outcomes too. Not enough to say that one way is better than the other as it's just two cases with incomplete information. I prefer one over the other though.

currently 4-2. pritchard and ceballos absolutely outstanding. bentaleb got a goal and assist having been on the pitchfor 70 seconds

Im am off to

Lewes Rookettes vs THFC Ladies tomorrow. 2.00pm kick off £3 to get in.

Lewes ladies regularly get crowds of around 200 which is quite impressive really.
This is my first ever attendance at a Ladies game - i will report back!

I might even take my 5x10 Spurs flag - let them know where the away fans are!!

i thought luongo was on loan at ipswich?

I guess he was given permission to play after they knew he wasn't in their squad for todays game.. My Ipswich mates are in shock, he has been their best midfielder this year, then Jewell bought in Richie Wellens on loan and he lost his place, then he also bought in Reo-Coker on loan and now he not even in getting in squad!? Reo-Coker played a couple now he's on the bench too. They have something like 8 loanees at the minute.

Their club is a shambles. My mate said after Roy Keane not playing Andros who was also good for them now the same thing happened to Luongo Spurs prob won't wanna deal with us again for a while!!

Good! Would ahve liked to have seen guys like this given a go in the Europa and Carling cup. Hopefully if we canbeat the greeks and Maribor at home then we can use some kids v Lazio

It was good to see Luongo and Fredericks available to play from their loan clubs.

Somehow I think AVB's reluctant to use the kids in the EL. How would it look if you keep repeating the need to take the competition seriously but then send out the kids in that very same competition? I don't expect to see him play too many of them in those games. Capital One Cup might be a better bet, though.

He came out against Lazio with a couple and I'd say it is pretty clear he would have given more a go if we'd have been winning our games. Shame really.
