David Bentley faces an anxious wait to discover if his loan spell could be cut short by an ankle injury.

Source: Daily Mail

The Tottenham winger, on loan at Russian side FC Rostov, is set to undergo a scan this week after he hobbled off in Saturday’s draw with Lokomotiv Moscow.

The £17million Spurs misfit has made five appearances since joining the Russian Premier League side last month.

Bentley was on loan to January but he may have to return to White Hart Lane if the injury is serious.

It really has gone horribly wrong for him over the years really hasn't it. Hard to tell whether it is just bad luck or whether it's his character....Hopefully the injury will not be too bad.

Nathan Byrne made it two wins and two clean sheets in four days as Crawley Town moved to within a point of leaders Tranmere in League One on Tuesday night.

The young full-back completed another 90-minute shift to help his team to an impressive 2-0 home win over MK Dons.

On Saturday, Nathan started again as the Reds came home from the long trip to Hartlepool with a 1-0 win.

Back to Tuesday night's action and Jermaine Jenas came on in the 77th minute as Forest grabbed a last-minute equaliser at Blackpool in the Championship.

In League One, John Bostock was an unused substitute as Swindon lost 2-1 at Crewe and Jack Munns remained on the bench as Aldershot picked up a fine win at Southend.

WEEKEND ACTION

In the Premier League, Danny Rose played 90 minutes for Sunderland in another crackling Tyne-Wear derby that ended 1-1 at the Stadium of Light.

In League One, John Bostock was an unused substitute as Swindon drew 1-1 against S****horpe.

Jack Munns joined Aldershot for a month on Friday and was an unused substitute in the Shots' 3-0 home loss against Rotherham.

Away from the UK, Simon Dawkins was celebrating as San Jose Earthquakes lifted the MLS's Supporters Shield. It is awarded to the team with the best record in the regular season.

In fact, Earthquakes secured the Shield on the Friday, when rivals Kansas were held to a goalless draw by New York Red Bulls.

Simon returned to action after a recent injury and played 66 minutes as Earthquakes drew 2-2 against LA Galaxy.

David Bentley came up against former team-mate Roman Pavlyuchenko as FC Rostov played out a 0-0 draw against Locomotive Moscow in the Russian Premier League.

Meanwhile in Greece, Bongani Khumalo played 90 minutes as PAOK beat AEK 1-0 to stay second in the Greek Super League

Anyone notice Dorian Dervitte is now playing for Charlton.. He scored last night and I had to wiki him to see if it was the same one.

If he's made it back at such a reasonable level then I think he might very well show up in the Premier League after a while as well,
had great potential.

have absolutely no idea. should be released end of season
SWINDON TOWN: Bostock must change
http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/sport/9969973.Bostock_must_change/
PAOLO Di Canio has insisted that John Bostock remains very much part of plans at Swindon Town, as long as the midfielder cuts out the more selfish and instinctive elements of his game.

Bostock returned to Wiltshire on loan at the end of August having impressed during a temporary spell with the Robins towards the end of last season, but the 20-year-old has found it difficult to break into the Town matchday squad since – making just two substitute appearances.

Some supporters have begun to question why the Tottenham youngster is not being given the chance in the red of Swindon this term and, when asked by the Advertiser, Di Canio explained that he needs Bostock to change as a player if he is to fit in with his blueprint for success at SN1.

He said: “We spoke together a few days ago and he asked me ‘what do you think?’ “At the moment it’s difficult because sometimes there is no difference and sometimes there is a difference when we say 4-4-2 and 4-4-1-1.

“I need two strikers now, especially at this level, both have to attack the space, drop short, pass the ball and attack the space again.

“He’s going to have a chance but he has to understand that more in the middle of the field I want to see more in training sessions. Maybe on Saturday I could send him on for 20 minutes, it could happen, because he will travel with us.¬ “He still sometimes in training sessions plays with his instincts because he’s a talented player, fantastic quality technically but in this moment he does not understand how to play with his teammates and for his teammates – he plays for himself.

“Pass the ball, receive the ball. Pass the ball and get it back. It’s not something against him but to try to help him because he can be a good player for us.

“My football has got a very clear identity. Everybody has got different quality but we know what we want and we saw against Colchester, if we don’t press, if we don’t receive the ball at the right time, our mechanism and our shape are our leaders.

“If we don’t find this way it is difficult for us to win the game with individuals doing his own instinct.

“If you play with your instinct, with less fire and less enthusiasm maybe you can win one game in the season but we are not good enough to do this. We have to play with discipline, quality, help our teammates.

“I’m going to check everything and for him if he wants to prove something under us then for 10 minutes or 20 minutes he will do the job that the manager wants him to do.

“I want a player who works for my cause not for their own cause, with all respect.”

Shame. On to the next young English talent with the world at his feet until he fudges it up by being too arrogant/lazy/uncommitted/flash.

Though it looks like Pritchard's been phenomenally good for our youth side. Worth watching?

I really don't understand it.

Surely players like these also watch football themselves. Surely they see Xavi and Iniesta press and work for the team. Surely they see Dortmund, United, Real and the other great pressing teams around. Surely they could also see the sweat dripping off Zidane as he kept working and working and working in addition to being outstanding on the ball for his team. Yet they, who have achieved close to nothing as professional footballers think that not working for the team is the way to go, that they are somehow too good to make that run, release that easy pass or make that tackle.

Shame. On to the next young English talent with the world at his feet until he fudges it up by being too arrogant/lazy/uncommitted/flash.

Was hoping to see Pritchard in the EL this season, but so far that hasn't happened. Although the timing with the NextGen tournament might have played a part.

I remember watching some next gen games last season and Pritchard stood out. Im sure the thrashing we gave Inter he had a hand in most goals.

To me he looked our best player against Barca this season in the Next Gen, although I suppose now he's one of the oldest players in the U19 squad so he should be among the better ones.

You guys have definitely seen more youth games than I have. I only got to watch the Inter game last season and the Wolfsburg one this season, so I'm going purely on those two plus whatever I pick up off the web. That's why I'm not totally sure about Pritchard, even though he did boss those two games.

another youth player that cant get in a league 1 team. the only 2 that have done well out on loan are caulker townsend and kane, with the first two now in our squad and kane playing in premier league

Weren't he playing games at Brentford? Maybe he's been called back for a reason?

I think Adam Smith done well out on loan

I like Adam Smith. But plainly Naughton is further along the road than he is. At last we have an explanation about Bostock. Attitude is something that can be changed. I was impressed by Taarabt on MOTD-he actually passed the ball!
