The Academy, NextGen, U18 & U21 Premier League and On-Loan Thread

Just read that AVB has promoted Inglethorpe from U18s/Academy to U21s/NextGen manager (at the expense of Sherwood).

Interesting.

Been rumours for a while now that AVB and Sherwood aren't getting on. As I stated in another thread, hopefully AVB will win that power battle and Sherwood will be booted from the club.

Has to be said that Sherwood didn't look to happy in the stands on Sunday, this could be why then. The only reason I could imagine for him being pushed out is AVB wants the U21s to adopt the same principles as the senior team, so they are ready to step up and Sherwood wants his own stamp maybe?

NextGen is an U-19 tournament, Windy's tweet does not imply anywhere that he's taken over the U-21s (he hasn't). It's still Ferdinand/Sherwood/Ramsey for U-21s.

Good point, but Sherwood did seem to be managing the NextGen games though.

I have to say, the idea of Ferdinand working with our U21 strikers really doesn't instill me with confidence. He might have known how to score a goal but we should have Teddy in if we want them to have any idea about movement

I would hope that our coaches call on a bit more than just their own personal experience. I also think that being able to communicate ideas and keep training varied and interesting is more important than what they were like as players.

Ability to communicate ideas is important, but so is the quality of of the ideas that you are communicating. Ferdinand has been a striking coach since 2008 I think, since when our strikers have not exactly lit up the division.

I'd like to see a change in the coaching for the strikers. Even if we were just considering ex-Spurs players, we have rich tradition of great forwards, there must be other choices than Sir Les. Maybe Gary Lineker could drop in and have word, in-between Walkers crisps and BBC duties. Or Teddy. Or Daveeed. Even if it was just a few sessions.

I think that it is always difficult to judge coaches because we have no idea what they do or who they work with.

Daveeed was quite regularly coaching at Spurs Lodge when Redknapp was in charge - I was lucky enough to get that from the horses mouth a couple of years ago! He's got a lot of time for Harry.
