The Academy, NextGen, U18 & U21 Premier League and On-Loan Thread

can only see bostock released. he cant get in anybodys team on a consistent basis, certainly nowhere near ours

What wasted talent from Bostock really was the typical can't miss prospect. Good news is we still have players in midfield like Luongo, Carroll and Pritchard that look like they may make it for us

I hope Mason gets a few games. He's captaining the U-21s now and doing well.

He hasn't really progressed like we would have hoped has he? He does look like he has some good technical ability but he has been a fringe player in the Championship for years now maybe this can be his breakout year? looking like it could be make or break soon

He must regret ever joining us, if he had stayed with Palace he would probably have had a few years first team football under his belt by now.

When he was joined us he played in one of the international youth tournaments that was on Eurosport. I was stunned at how brick he was. He was hyped as the next big thing, but he was not even one of England (I think U17's) better players. We signed him a few months earlier and were all told what a talent he was, but he just looked so average. Then I only ever saw him in his European games for us, where he look ordinary and last season in the FA trophy for Swindon, where he looked awful.

He simply doesn't seem to have much talent in my opinion. I can't see why he'd have faired any better staying at Palace. I know he got into their side at a very young age and was linked with a move to Barca, but these are the reasons I was so taken aback by just how brick he was. He's had lots of opportunities to play 1st team football on loan, but I think his brickness ultimately shone through. I'm sure the only reason so many of our fans have held out hope for him for so long is due the fuss Palace made about him leaving and the fact he apparently was wanted by Barca, because he ain't very good at football.

Might be he thought he had made it at age 16, having played for Palace and signed with Spurs. Takes more than talent to take those final steps.

I don't think the problems were with his his attitude. He may well have had a poor one and may have thought he had already made it, but these things are insignificant compared to the sheer lack of quality I saw in him. I think's it much more likely that he was an amazing athlete and at at youth level this made him stand out. We know he has great shot on him and at youth level if you mix that with pace, power and stamina, you can look like a star. What shocked me when I saw him was that he couldn't pass the ball very well and didn't seem to be dribbling past players either. I was expecting some technical genius, but he reminded me of Jenas on a bad day.

Unlucky with injuries but still highly rated. I'm looking forward to seeing the Europa line-ups, maybe a few of the development squad will get games, fully expect Falque for example. Has anyone seen a submitted list for the Europa league?

I think that any U-21 players on our books are also eligible for the UEFA Europa League

YOUNGSTERS RELISHING BARCA CHALLENGE

Alex Inglethorpe believes Thursday night's clash against Barcelona in the NextGen Series is a fantastic challenge for our young players - but warns against being overawed by the Spanish opponents.

Our Under-19s face Barca in the European competition in what promises to be an entertaining affair at White Hart Lane, kicking-off at 7pm.

Coach Alex is hoping his side will build on their impressive 3-2 win in Germany against Wolfsburg in their Group One opener. Barcelona drew 1-1 at home to Anderlecht in their first game.

Matches against the famous Catalan side at any level will always be eagerly anticipated but Alex insists we have to approach the match as just another game.

“I’m quite sure the lads are excited by the game, it should be a great evening but we have to be careful that we don’t play the badge,” he explained.

“We are going to be playing against boys who want to play for Barcelona, not Xavi, Messi and Iniesta.

“I expect they will be talented and the best that Catalan can offer, but we have to remember that we are very good as well. We have to be mindful that we give them the respect they are due, but we cannot be fearful of them.

“The fact that the game is at White Hart Lane and fans will be coming to watch us play is great and as a professional footballer, these are the sort of things the boys have to get used to.

“It’s normal for a Tottenham Hotspur player to be playing in pressure situations in front of big crowds and that’s what these guys must get used to.

"It’s a wonderful opportunity for the boys and I hope they see it is a challenge.”

Zin, are you saying there that we almost lost him to Rushden, but then signed him just after he had signed for them? Pretty interesting.

I wouldnt have even looked at it if the spurs site hadn't included him in the list of previous clubs. Clearly some bending of rules to get him signed.

LAWRENCE'S LIFE-CHANGING JOURNEY

Young goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux will be taking to the White Hart Lane pitch on Thursday night having been on a unique journey.

The 18-year-old has just signed a one-year deal at the Club and is set to feature in the NextGen Series clash with Barcelona.

But just two years ago, such an opportunity would have seemed a million miles away as Lawrence completed his GCSEs at St Thomas More School in Wood Green, having been released by Brentford earlier that year.

It was then that the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s Education and Football Development Centre programme changed the North Londoner's life.

“I’d finished my GCSEs and wondered what I was going to do next,” said Lawrence, “then I decided to take this course because it enabled you to play football if you work hard in class.

“I always wanted to play football and try to get into the game, so I stayed on at college, did well in the games and got the opportunity to come here and try to become a better player.”

The Education and Football Development Centre programme, nominated for a 2012 Sports Industry Award, aims to directly address the high level of unemployment amongst young people today.

It sees the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation work in partnership with three local colleges to engage 16-18 year olds classified as NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) back into education using the hook of Academy-standard football coaching and regular matches with other colleges.

“A lot of the other students on my course have now gone on to University having completed all the units,” Lawrence continued.

“I wasn’t as academic, I was more of a footballer, but having a good education as back-up is probably the most important thing as you never know what might happen. You’re always going to need something to fall back on.

“The programme has changed my life and I would like to thank everyone who helped me get to where I am today."

Lawrence was between the sticks for the Nextgen Series opener three weeks ago, a 3-2 win over Wolfsburg in Germany.

And he insists the squad are full of confidence going into a game against the world-renowned name of FC Barcelona.

“We can’t wait for the game to start now. This is the big stage but we have to treat it as a normal game. We can’t let the nerves take control. But it will be good to have the crowd cheering us on.

“We’ve done our homework on Barcelona but it’s more about looking at how we play and doing what we’ve got to do to get the three points.”

It will be an unforgettable occasion for Lawrence, and one he believes he has proved is never out of reach for any young person.

“My advice to other young people who are not in education or employment would be to work hard and try to get into any college that you can.

“If they have an interest in sport, in particular football, then try to get onto one of the Development Centres at either Southgate, St Thomas More or Waltham Forest.”
