The Academy, NextGen, U18 & U21 Premier League and On-Loan Thread

It should be evidence that the vast majority of our fans have no clue how the club is run. One of the infinite number of stupid concerns our fans expressed about Redknapps tenure was the youth set up. Yet is during the last 3 years we've recruited this much of this young talent. The club is structured so the manager or in the case of AVB, first team coach, has little to nothing to do with it.

So that we've shifted to 4-3-3 in our youth teams this season, has absolutely nothing to do with AVB? Seems a little too coincidental really.

maybe AVB was appointed because our youth set up is going to be producing 433 style players 8-[

Which happens to be the most popular formation in football these days. But if you look at those graphics which show average positions of players during a game, we actually play 4231 or 442!

in was said in jest tbf mate . . .

do you know of a site where you can get up the graphics which show average positions for each game?

Or maybe, just maybe, it's because we have a new guy running our youth set up!

Yeah.. which would be a good point if we'd switched to 4-3-3 after Inglethorpe left rather than before.

It's not like we would go out and hire a new U21 manager based on a list of our own specifications, no, that would be crazy. We wouldn't sit and think 'Hmm, if our youth setup play the same formation as our first team it would be far easier for them to step up. Hey if the long term plan is to change the first team to 4-3-3, why not hire an U21 manager that will play 4-3-3!'

Who told you that was the plan? It sounds like the kind of thing Gutterboy would come out with.

We've got a new guy running the youth team and a new guy running the 1st team. They play different formations. There is no coincidence.

It's the most logical course.

What seems like a stupid thing to do is to hire a new guy to run the youth team and tell him to run it however he wants.

You still seem to be ignoring the fact that Inglethorpe played 442 last season, then this season he started playing 4-3-3, then left for Liverpool. The new guy just picked up where Inglethorpe left off.

When is this different ratings thing starting from and what is spurs academy likely to be rated as?

The audit has been completed and Spurs' Academy was given the highest possible rating - Category One.

He didn't though. We played 433 plenty of times last season. There was even a coaching report posted online in which it specifically said we trained a 433 session in preparation for a game the following weekend.

The whole 433 thing is Gutterboyesque nonsense anyway. AVB said in an interview he was a 433 fan and played that way with Porto. But he also said dynamics are more important than formation. His mentor was Mourinho, who played a standard 3 in midfield in Portugal. Then when he went to Chelsea he hardly ever did that and would nearly always play a very defensive 451 or 4132. So this is probably why AVB hasn't come in and played 433 and probably has no intention of doing so. Also AVB gave that interview years ago now when 433 was the in vogue formation. But these days most good teams seem are playing a 4231. It's easily the most popular formation of the top 5 teams in the Prem. It seems all head coach's are thinking the same. Formations change. The whole AVB 433 thing is almost certainly a misnomer. He hasn't played it with Chelsea or with us.

Any road up...Harry Kane...scored in his last game but has not been starting and Leicester fans seem to dislike him.
However if Leicester win this weekend and Bolton don't there are play off games to watch which I hope Harry will be involved in.

Obika still not a starter for Charlton but has scored a couple as a sub in 2 games. Their season is over.

Adam Smith is just a sub for Millwall.

The youth setup overhaul started before Redknapp, around the 2007/08 season when John McDermott became Academy Manager.

Er, AVB specifically said he played 4-3-3 with us against Emirates Marketing Project for the last 20, against Basel and against Everton in a post match interview.
