Because.... he speaks Portuguese? A little tenuous imo...

It's a wider cultural thing than just language, but yes, language is important. Links between Portuguese and Brazilian football are very strong and Brazilian footballers move to Portugal as their first stop in Europe more than any other country. They are very homely and patriotic the Brazilians, and anything that makes a place feel more like home they respond to.

So yes, language, wider cultural links, AVB's knowledge of Brazilian football...all that stuff would indeed appeal to Brazilians and perhaps be the difference between a young Brazilian choosing Spurs over Porto or the likes of Seville or Roma or whatnot.

thing is though Mumourn one source comes up with it and (regardless of verification) everyone else just runs with so as not to miss out. It doesnt add any validity to the original point...

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has stated that goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will be allowed to leave the club, but only for a "decent" price.

Reports have suggested that a host of English clubs are interested in securing his services, including Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool, but the OL chief has warned that it will take a substantial offer to tempt them into accepting any bids.

"Lloris can go, but only for a decent price in relation to the market," Aulas told TF1.

The goalkeeper played a large part in France's Euro 2012 campaign, selected as captain by coach Laurent Blanc, who stepped down from his post on Saturday. But it looks increasingly likely that the 25-year-old shot-stopper could move away from the Stade Gerland this summer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been strongly linked with a swoop for Lloris, while reports in England suggest that Liverpool could also be interested, as well as Spurs.

There was a lot of talk of this a few weeks back

And also the likelihood that we will not be signing any more Saha's or Nielson's either on loan or as a buy. I fugure he will be getting either players he knows or relatively young players which really works for me

Only if they're good enough. I'd rather have old proven vets, than youngsters who won't make the grade.

If we do go brazilian, sandro can be a great guide as living and playing in different climes would be v hard IMO if they come straight over.

 Age old argument I've had on GG for over a decade. It's Hoddle deja vu all over again (we need to drop Sheringham, Poyet and Anderton and play McEwan, Davies and Etherington as they're the future! - ah, the good old days  )

Well you missed the point back then in my opinion.
No one claimed all those players should have been dropped, but there was those who felt they couldn't all play together as there was no one to do the running.
It's a balancing act. Not an issue we have to face these days though, different debate.

My bad, I assumed "good enough" was a given. And may I add I took "good enough" to assume both potential as well current ability. I do not think we need any more old vets, and somehow I think Levy thinks the same.
