Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

All the tories ever do is destroy the economy and elect crap leaders who they immediately start plotting to oust.

No way is it democratic that you fight a general election with Johnson as a candidate and, after he resigns in disgrace, produce two successors without an election.

How many more Tory PMs will they go through before the current term ends in 2025? Another 5 or 6?

We elect a parliament, not a president. Then parliament selects a leader and government. A PM is no different really from a chancellor or foreign secretary, they've always been appointed

Absolute shut show, yes, but the democratic line isn't relevant in our system

If 40 tories defect (potentially where this goes if truss tries to cling on) Starmer could reasonably become MP for the two years up to the GE. The only thing anyone ever votes for is their constituency MP

When there was talk of Sunak or Mordaunt being prepped behind the scenes last week I thought I heard that the issue was that even if the majority agreed to vote for one of them to make it quick and easy, then there was still nothing stopping some rogue members also throwing their hats in the ring and complicating the process again. I can't believe they even considered Truss as a potential leader in the first place, Let alone decided to back her! You have to hope they have learnt their lesson but you wouldn't hold your breath.

In large part, Sunak's fault, wasn't it? In that he supposedly 'lent' some of his votes to Truss in order to avoid being up against Mordaunt in the final two? Of course there were still enough voting for her before the final round, but he ensured she made it to the members vote.

a lot of people thought Boris also backed Truss because he knew she'd be a distaster, making it look like it was a mistake to get rid of him. It wasn't at all. Need to get rid of them all.

you are correct, but it but it's morally wrong that the manifesto they were voted in on has been so radically modified midway through a government

there is no mandate for Truss and her crazy policies

so today when Hunt rows back, you cant put the genie back in the bottle. It's done, people's lives have been hit massively especially on mortgages. Anything he does now wont change that.

BBC website reporting that Hunt is going to remove the commitment to retain the energy price cap for 2 years (effectively making it more like Labour policy of reviewing in April, perhaps?).
Seeing as that has been Truss's go-to response to every question she is asked, and how it has been vaunted as the centrepiece of the whole mini-budget, it must remove any last vestige of credibility she might have (and it's as minute as it can get if any does still exist)?

Truss wont be in the chamber to answer the urgent question put forward by Labour this afternoon. She's sending Penny M instead.

This is the leader of the fudging country Tory Voters chose.

Well, 80,000 of the most ancient and rabidly right-wing Tory voters.
