Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

I think she will and it would be smart too both because it makes sense given the deal signed and Brexit won't be a winning strategy at the next election anyway.

Feels like it's only a matter of time until there's a referendum on a United Ireland anyway, probably within the next 10-20 years.
Yes, I see a larger pivot underway in relations with the EU across the board now and the NI discussions seem to be part of that switch. As you say, maybe they've decided they've exhausted that avenue in terms of political capital, or more likely they've been persuaded by the economic circumstances that it is a counter-productive approach. Truss is going to Macron’s European Political Community thing and even offered to host it. That whole project is interesting itself but the UK attending was unthinkable a few short months ago.

When France and Holland banned womens right to cover their head but still allowed men to walk around topless and still force women to cover their boobs I saw the tumbleweed on here. Fukin hypocrites

Who are these “problematic” intellectuals just out of interest?

There’s a whole thread on one here ;)

But thanks for telling me I don’t care about women when you’ve never met me before.

I can only go by your posts. Your original post seemed like a clear attempt to ‘own the libs’ as opposed to any care for the empowerment of women.

I get things wrong, I’ll hold my hands up in threads whether it’s admitting I was wrong about the ability of a spurs player or admitting I could have worded things differently when talking about politics as I have done on occasion

Did you hold your hands up about Tom Daley? I don’t recall that but happy to be corrected. You seemed to go silent.

I’d invite you to do the same and perhaps not write such a patronising, sanctimonious post. I could probably predict who will like your post to a man and that’s fine if you want the same people to applaud it, but if you want to debate or help people learn as you say you do, I’m not entirely sure certain paragraphs will gain you any allies beyond the ones you already have even if you do make some perfectly reasonable and valid points :)

This whole bit says so much more about what you’re projecting than anything about me. I’m not fishing for likes or looking to change hearts and minds. This is the internet not a debate hall. Simply calling out flimflam. If you think I’m being sanctimonious or patronising, I’m afraid I just don’t care. My tolerance level for what is actually dangerous to society has gone to zero.

What was the relevance of their opposition?

I think it is an important point, “Brexit” could have been so many different things. The ‘Norway model’ was often socialised by the Leave campaign which is vastly different to what was served up. Which begs the question, which version of Brexit did you vote for, and is the one we have got in your name?

Pfft. The point in hand related to rolling back Government policy.

As someone who is married to someone who chooses to wear a hijab, @Jurgen the German just stop please. you know nothing

I know nothing and am genuinely interested and open to learning, no hidden agenda or point scoring, what is the reason for the hijab?
I understand that not all will wear it for the same reason, and definitely not asking specifically about your wife btw, but what is the significance of the hijab.
I could Google it of course but I tend not to trust Google.
Feel free to dm me if you want to avoid any "interference", or ignore me even.
Hoping not to cause any offence.

What a good idea! That we have a PM who campaigned and voted to remain muddies the waters. Rolling back something which the OBR says costs the UK 4% of GDP every year for 15 years seems a quick win to me. I see you weren't able to say if the Brexit we got was in your name or not. That is okay it is complex, and in effect, people voted for one thing yet it could have been so many different things. If we were like Norway, with enhanced fishing rights etc but still in the European free market we'd be having a very different discussion and the impacts on the economy would be less perceptible. Yet it was all in your name? Whatever the particulars of what they serve up.

The same reason nuns where them. The women who choose to wear one feel more modest with them on.

In the Quran it says Men and Women should dress modestly.

modestly is obviously open to interpretation and cultural influences.

@LutonSpurs can correct me if I’m wrong. But I don’t actually think the Hijab is prescribed in the Quran and the Burka I am almost certain is not. The Burka is to my knowledge an Arab culture thing that had spread to other Muslim cultures… again @LutonSpurs can correct me if I’m wrong.

for me, no one should be able to tell women what to wear or not to wear.

In my name? You’ve lost the fudging plot.

David Cameron. Brexit. Against.

Now fudge off.

To be fair I voted for the Norway style deal as I thought that was the best we could get.

What we actually got was better then my wildest dreams.

I take your point and actually have to agree a little with the romoaners that the were so many different brexits that such a small win in the vote should have meant the most small types of brexit. Personally I'm glad for the brexit we got as I value freedom and am not a Nazi.

Thanks, its interesting to me how customs and traditions develop and evolve.
It kind of shames me to say that I'm almost totally ignorant of arab and muslim culture, as well as many other cultures.

Wear what you want and for whatever reason you want, for all that to me its only clothes for others these items can mean so much more.

It's all subjective interpretation tbh. I'm with you. It's just a choice. And nothing to do with us men.

why tell him to fûck off? What did he say particularly to offend you?

He’s been replying to my posts with irrelevant gash for a sustained period of time.

He’s having a public crying toss shouting Brexit over and over. Do not need it.
