OMT Tottenham v Gillingham - League Cup

Is there any reason people are assuming Wimmer is no longer injured?

Also, what are people's thoughts on Lopez instead of Vorm. Vorm obviously did very well covering for Lloris, but if Lopez is supposed to be the future (assuming we take up the option and Vorm moves for first team football in one of the next two windows), isn't it better to blood him in a competitive situation?

I'd say keep the no. 2 sharp. Though Lopez was first choice in a top tier Spanish club so he would be fine.

I don't think Wimmer was injured so much as not fit, with CCV impressing preseason.

The important list is:

2015 - someone better than us
2014 - someone better than us
2013 - someone better than us
2012 - someone better than us
2011 - someone better than us
2010 - someone better than us
2009 - someone better than us
2008 - us
2007 - someone better than us

It is often not the best side that wins a cup. Random events have a disproportionate impact on one off games which makes them a bit of a lottery.

To win a cup though you need to absolutely nail 6 or so big games in a row. No margin for error whatsoever.

Brilliant sides win cups, while steady teams win leagues.

Winning cups was an art we perfected between 1961-91. It's a test of Poch whether we can get that winner-takes-all big game mentality back.

she actually had a skinhead so would have been a bald cap

Not having "Brilliant sides win cups" like Wigan / Birmingham /Swansea?

agree that we used to win a fair few but that was when they were worth a lot more, would love to win the FA cup but will it mean as much as 1991? not for me.

Most Arsenal fans I know said they would happily have traded their 15 years of 4th places for their 2014 FA cup win.

I think we'll go with a mixture of experience and youth. The midfield looks light, but not sure we need a true, dedicated DM against a League One side.

-----------Vorm--------------
Trips--CCV--Wimmer--Davies
------Winks----Carroll------
Sissoko---Onomah---Sonny
------------Janssen--------

On present form I would be tempted to save Son for boro, he has been excellent during his last 2 matches, I would rather play Georgie Boy or Lamela

Assuming Janssen has scored and the game is sown up by 60 minutes I would take him off

Which is why luck plays such a big part. Quite a high proportion of goals are scored through mistakes and football is a low scoring game.

Since the introduction of the PL the FA Cup has been won 22 times by Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, City and United and 3 times by everyone else. The league cup has been won by the same five clubs 17 times and 8 times by everyone else.

Those five clubs also managed to get 69 of the 78 available CL spots in that period.

Being a regular CL qualifier puts you in a much better position long term and it would be foolish not to prioritise league games over cup games until the very late stages, when you also have a clearer picture of your chances in the league that season.

Not true

You can be a lucky side to win cups... Chelsea in the champions league and Portsmouth in the FA Cup

You have to be consistently brilliant to win the league. It's the top competition for a reason!!

i dont know why so many people are picking Jannsen when he is our only fit striker right now and we have Boro away, CSKA away and Emirates Marketing Project coming up next week

this is a nothing game at home and having Son as a striker should be enough to beat the Gills

Maybe people feel that some game time will help him find his mojo

Because it helps to play one?!

It is a risk but one worth taking for 60mins or so IMO. If he bags a goal or two in that time it will give him a confidence boost ahead of those other matches. Even if he doesn't score but plays well that's good too.

Nonsense. We had tinkle easy runs to the final in Poch and Redknapp's first seasons. There was absolutely nothing brilliant whatsoever about Greece in 2004 or Chelsea in 2012, just a bunch of opponents who inexplicably kept missing absolute sitters to put them away like the nothing sides that they were.

But if you asked a Portsmouth fan if they would rather have 15 years in champions league or an fa cup win?

To be fair if they'd had 15 years of CL they wouldn't now be in League Two losing to Accrington Stanley in front of a crowd of less than 2,500. I'm not making that up it literally happened.

Want to see starts for CCV, Trippier, Winks, Edwards, N'Koudou and Janssen tonight. See what the kids are made of. Get Janssen into the groove.

Think Edwards will be on the bench. The rest should start. Maybe Onoham and Carol too. What's the point in having a squad, if you don't use it? Also important that these players are getting game time so they can be ready to come into important games.

Two channels listed as showing tomorrow's game, both called Super Sport 2. One is South African and the other one could be Albanian based on the satellite, but I couldn't find any more info. Could be some water flowing.

@Jordinho. Yes Super Sports 2 in South Africa are showing it. But is available almost all over Africa if you are a subscriber.
Unfortunately, the game is at 10 pm here in Kenya - long after Tusker Lager and food have been consumed.
Maybe, I will watch it with some popcorn ;)
