OMT Tottenham v Gillingham - League Cup

The Gills have got the worst defensive record in the 3rd Division (15 goals conceded in 8 games). I think I may start to worry if Janssen somehow can't get on the scoresheet tomorrow night.

10 of those conceded on the road.

It's a shame that Harrison will miss a chance to be part of the first team squad. Any idea who is likely to benefit at his expense @Yoof?

Kazaiah Sterling is the other main CF in the setup IIRC. The others forwards like Will Miller and Shilow Tracey are more AMs.

There's also the new guy we signed in the summer - Juan Pablo Gonzalez Velasco, who I have no idea about

I think we'll go with a mixture of experience and youth. The midfield looks light, but not sure we need a true, dedicated DM against a League One side.

-----------Vorm--------------
Trips--CCV--Wimmer--Davies
------Winks----Carroll------
Sissoko---Onomah---Sonny
------------Janssen--------

Swap Son for Wanyama, push one of Carroll/Winks forward and Onomah on the left.

I would perhaps play Eriksen, at least have him on the bench.

Maybe we will see Son or Lamela covering the position from the bench. I would expect that to be our plan b in the league.

No one from the youth - Loft's not at the level required and Sterling's injured(he's far from being 1st team ready anyway). I suspect Son will cover there if needed, N'Koudou could benefit indirectly as it would open up an AM slot.

Before your time, but Cyril Knowles was good.

I take a step back and await the Double watchers to pitch in - or before that. Anyone watching in the 40s ?
*Only time I can recall watching Ramsey he scored an og.

But anyway, Henry before Cyril every time for me.

*edit - oops, come to think of it Ramsey was on the right! Well I was only nine at the time.

Definitely not meaningless. It's still our best chance for this groups'/Poch's first trophy - something that needs to happen sooner rather than later if we're to keep growing.

But realistically our second string should be able to do a comfortable job on a mid-table third tier side.

I did say RELATIVELY meaningless. It is probably the game we can most afford to experiment in all season. Hence my comment and my suggested team selection. It would be catastrophic if we lost VJ for an extended period while Kane is out. Makes the non signing of Dembele mi last January to play this season even more unfortunate IMO

Sorry but even relatively meaningless is complete gonads. The club needs to win something this decade or we have completely fudged it.

I think Edwards will be on the bench - and he'll be more effective coming on second half against a tiring team.

How often have we seen teams performing poorly in the league only to become amazing in the cups?

Eriksen should start, and it would be hard not to start all of Carol, Winks, Onomah. They've been patient and around the first team squad. They deserve to play imo.

If Poch thinks GKN is ready then he should line up supporting Janssen imo. The two could complement each other.

Back 5 pick themselves.

Vorm
Trippier Wimmer CCV Davies
Carol Winks Onomah
Eriksen GKN
Janssen

Edwards on around 60 mins for Eriksen hopefully and Son for Janssen.

It's the least important of all our first team games this season. If we get to the quarters with a reasonable draw we should make sure we play a strong enough side to win, but tomorrow it's reserves and players needing match fitness only.

3rd round of the fa cup is a bigger inconvenience imo
