***OMT TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR v Watford***

They only have 14 fit outfield players, so they will be looking to grind out a draw here and be full strength against Stoke in their next game.

Errr surely the slate is wiped clean after Dec 31st? Neither should be at risk from being suspended for cheatski, unless they get sent off

To respond to my own point, I'm right - they have Matic and Luiz at risk of missing the game against us given that they play on Dec 31st rather than Jan 1st

Nope

Anything before that date incurs a ban after that date

If you get to 5 bookings on or after Jan 1st you don't get suspended. The next date of relevance after the '5 yellows by Dec 31st' rule is 10 yellows by [early April, from memory].

The FA website is clear

If wanyama or Moussa get booked vs Watford their out of Chelsea which is what I've been saying

Hopefully can build confidence and keep it an efficient performance. A win in whichever shape or form is needed though. Then all focus turns to beating the league leaders, first all focus has to be on beating watford. Will we underestimate them and lose focus?

Should be a relatively easy win, but hope Poch isn't saying that.

Spurs boss is not yet thinking about his side's game with Chelsea on Wednesday.

"For us the most important game is Watford to try and reduce the gap on the top four," he says
.

"We need to be focussed on Watford that's the most important thing for us.

"Chelsea are a long way ahead. It will be tough for all the contenders. They have a good gap to second and 10 points to us but we'll fight to reduce the gap.

"It's only half the season gone, there is a long way ahead and we'll have a good opportunity when we play them but first we must beat Watford."

Thank GHod for that well said Poch screw all this talk about Chelski, one game at a time and worry about Chelski after we have taken the 3 points.

I'm not saying we shouldn't aim for the title, I just don't believe we can for the following reasons:

  • Mentality - Every time we have the chance to win and go top we blow it. We can't even get to the top of the league let alone stay there. Ourselves and Arsenal can't deal with any kind of pressure that comes with being title challengers. We seem to perform much better when people don't talk about us.
  • Goals - We don't create enough chances for Kane and we aren't clinical enough with the chances we do create.
  • Our bench isn't good enough.
  • We draw too many games.

False equivalence being drawn there. How many years have Arsenal blown their chance of winning the League or staying top of the table? And how many seasons have we had a chance of winning the league or staying at the top of the table?
We are newcomers to that game and the chastening experience of last season may well have a stimulating and educational impact upon a young and growing team.

For example, a Premier League player earning their fifth caution of the season on or after 1st January would not earn any ban.

Its the round of games at that point e.g our game vs Watford

Hence why if you oook at the same site and search for players one game away from a suspension you get out two (you can search by club)

It's actually a good thing the FA have for once

Isn't that table just a list of players who've received 4 yellows to this point?

The wording below is very clear - "On or after January 1st", not "round of" or "weekend of" - it very specifically states Jan 1st.

We play Watford on January the 1st so it counts if he is booked then

The round of fixtures conclude in the 1st for all teams otherwise we would gain an advantage
