Yeah I've seen it. My thoughts are in white as they may be spoilers to a certain degree. Don't read if you haven't seen.

Yeah the focus of the story was Engineers, and the Aliens were essentially created by them, intentionally or not. Military base used to make WOMD which goes wrong and is left untouched for two thousand years, and then the humans come and poke around and the result is that one of the beings that the woman incubated (planted by David) inside her uses the surviving Engineer as a vessel to create the new species of Aliens. The stories are very much related in my opinion.

Fair point, I probably shouldn't have said that the stories aren't directly related... to go back to my original point, I just mean that I felt that there was a lack of development and explanation of the engineer-related storyline, which a sequel could solve.

Any debate over the whether or not it's a prequel is probably just splitting semantic hairs; in some ways it clearly is, in some ways it isn't.

have you seen it ?

firstly, for me, the characters were all pretty unlikable or annoying, i didn't really find myself caring for any of them, couldn't work out who we was meant to be cheering for.

the story line, whilst pretty good, seemed to gloss over the important stuff all too quickly. several inaccuracies along the way, few plot holes etc - it felt really dumbed down in places/bordering on insulting actually - the more i think it about it the more let down i feel. a good movie to watch in the cinema with 3D and the effects and all that but as another part of the Alien franchise it has fallen well short

id agree with Spinter that it was most definitely a prequel - id imagine there's a sequel lined up to further the questions that were left unanswered

Pretty much agree with all of that. I thought the story was set up pretty well, but then it all felt a bit rushed... a lot of the things that happened didn't seem well-explained to me.

That's something I don't get about porn movies. Why start off by showing all the "money shots"?

A really bad cam version of Prometheus is doing the rounds, apparently it has the ending missing but people are still downloading it..

Don't understand anyone who would watch something like that. The best thing about Prometheus is how amazing it is visually; if you're going to watch it, go to the cinema.

I find it strange how cheap some people are when it comes to the cinema... a lot of people complain about having to a pay a tenner, but I'm sure have no problem with spending more than that on 3 pints down the pub.

And there's another thing I don't get. Why do people want to waste their time on bricky camera versions of movies? If you don't want to pay for the cinema, wait for the DVD rip.

Exactly, its a dark film so you will want to watch it as it should be and take in all the special effects, etc..

I dont bother with cams anymore

I dont think its about paying to go to the cinema (I certainly dont mind going to the cinema) I just think people like watching movies in their spare time at home.

When I go out I wont waste my time on going to the movies, generally it would be down the bar or for dinner etc where I can converse and have a laugh.

I get what you mean especially when it comes to the movies such as those where visuals are a major part of the movie

Agreed, our nearest cinema is 20miles+ each way, which makes it only worthwhile for one we are excited about and where a huge screen adds something to the experience.

I appreciate not wanting to go to the cinema, and wanting to watch films at home. However, I still dont get watching shaky cam footage instead of just waiting for the film to be released in a quality format.

Some films are simply better at the cinema, they just are - but thats a personal preference thing and I think anyone actually bothered about such things would know when its worth making the effort.

Loved Midnight in Paris. Also loved Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Can anyone recommend another Woody Allen film based on me really liking those two?

I'd reccomend going for Annie Hall, or Manhattan. Both are in my top ten movies of all time.

Zelig is also a very interesting watch, but isn't a romantic style of film, more a historical and sociological film, a fake documentary. Won an Oscar for Screenplay I think.

The thing that draws alot in, is that very rarely there are virtually DVD quality CAMs which crop up. Don't watch CAMs but I can understand some (a friend does for her kid who doesn't care about the quality at 5!).

I hate the camera style movies - I will always download DVD movies. Cant deal with that camera brick.

Definitely.

And did that just last night. Not quite as good as I thought it might be. Not in the same league as Alien and Aliens for me. Great special effects though, but as you say, has to be watched at the flicks
