O/T Capello Resigns / New England Manager Speculation Thread

All this coverage is starting to irritate. Amazed at the brazen calls for our manager, absolutely no respect at all. Really need a major performance tomorrow to reassert the fact that we are in the top 3 mix and don't intend on going away.

The whole fudging plethora of media, pundits, managers and players that have said 'Harry nailed on'.

If we now concede a 10 point gap to Arsenal and finish 6th because of this circus... The FA will look like mugs, The managers and players: mission accomplished, the media will be the poison it is for our national team and the pundits got it wrong. surprise surprise.

The Carrick of a few years ago was vastly better than Parker or Sandro (because he'd tackle and intercept as much as them, but was a lot better on the ball too), but now? I don't think so to be honest. And with two out and out wingers, a more combatitive defensive midfielder is probably more suited than a cultured one.

I think we would lack the type of bite we missed until Wilson came along. If Modric and Carrick were to play, Id also have a physical DM, with 3 in the centre.

imo

It may be that Carrick is not the player he was - I'll admit to not paying Utd a huge amount of attention this season.

I think you're both forgetting that Carrick did just fine partnered with Jenas, so he'd have no problems with Modric. I'm yet to be convinced that a team can't play two wingers without playing a clogger in the middle - I suspect that our better ball retention (and better shape off the ball) would negate switching Davids for Bale in that scenario.

Really?! I think you're tripping out of your mind if you seriously think that Sandro is way better than Parker. If he is, then why did Redknapp favour Parker over Sandro? I'd say they are about even in terms of ability, with Parker getting the nod due to experience and being on a better wavelength with Modric than Sandro appears to be.

Agreed. Sandro has the potential to be easily as good as Parker, who's skill on-the-ball is underrated IMO, but he has a fair way to go yet. As it stands I put him on par with how good Palacios was when he first signed for us, great at getting stuck in but just not quite the finished article

I have to lol everytime I see Rogers name being mentioned for Spurs. Phil Brown did better in his time with Hull in the premiership. Shall we add him to the fudging departed list of names ?

Manager : Hi, this is Brandan Rogers here at Spurs, I would like to know If you would sign for us....
Any player that can kick a ball in a straight line : Who ?..........(phone down)

i would put the phone down too but if it was Brendon Rodgers it may be different.......

No he won't get it full stop,he's just signed a new three year contract on monday(that doesn't mean nothing these days though) but he's still learning the game.

Theres s few rumours that Guardiola has been tapped up by the goons for this summer...........could get in their first ............no harm in asking.........offer him anything he wants,we play a style of football that he likes...........

Levy went all out to get Guardiola as a player back in 2001, maybe Levy left a nice impression on Pep

That's why I specified two wingers. When Carrick and Jenas were in the centre we also had Davids or Tainio coming in off the left making a three man midfield.

England players' support for Harry Redknapp as manager a concern, says Roy Keane

Former Manchester United and Ireland captain Roy Keane believes player power may be counterproductive as FA search for a manager to lead England into Euro 2012.

"No matter who England appoint as manager, I can't see them winning the European Championships.

"Without even thinking about it, you'd say Spain and Holland are better sides, so England will have their work cut out."

Since Fabio Capello resigned from the England post, senior players such as Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney have taken to Twitter to air their views, a development that doesn't sit easily with Keane.

"What worries me are the likes of Rooney and Ferdinand coming out and saying Harry should get the job.

"It shouldn't be down to the players. OK, you might consult one or two senior players but the problem is that what they want seems to change every couple of years.

Keane suggests that senior players aren't always the best judges in matters of manager selection.

"They seemed to like Sven Goran Eriksson at first but then the complaint was he was too laid-back and wasn't passionate enough about the job so they wanted an Englishman.

"Steve McClaren was given the job and the problem with him appeared to be that he was too pally, joining in at training and calling John Terry 'JT' and Steven Gerrard 'Stevie G' so they wanted more of a disciplinarian.

"Then they decided Capello was too aloof and there was a problem with the language barrier so now we're back to them wanting an Englishman."

Keane praises Redknapp's track record in terms of getting them into the Champions League and winning the FA Cup with Portsmouth but feels international football could be tough for the Spurs manager.

"The players he has at his disposal aren't going to change. He would have limited time with them so it's not really about coaching. You're trying to develop a team spirit more than anything.

"It is a tough job because you have big egos coming in from the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool and, maybe, Harry is the man to make them gel.

"Terry Venables did it at euro 96 and it got England to the semi-finals — but ever since then it's been disappointment after disappointment."

Writing in his Sun column, Keane also believes the captaincy will also be an issue in four months' time.

"The FA haven't helped themselves. We're supposed to believe you're innocent until proven guilty. Terry had the captaincy taken away but was still available for selection.

"That didn't make a whole lot of sense and to take that decision at a meeting where Capello wasn't present completely undermined him.

"Being without a captain isn't as big a deal as having no manager. And I do think Capello is a loss. His track record is brilliant.

"It's hard to judge his reign because of the way it has ended. Yes, the performance in the World Cup wasn't good enough but the euros may well have turned out better.

Keane is spot on in my opinion. The terrible aspect of the Ferdinand, Rooney tweets is that their clubs haven't told them to shut the hell up. Besides which Ferdinand will be lucky to play, recently said he wouldn't take captaincy if offered, and Rooney is banned for the first 2 games for misconduct. Couldn't make it up.

BAE had a bad hair day, so he asked Arry to get him somthing for it...

How ironic....For the past five years england went after him for false charges and made his life as hell exploiting him and his family..making him a subject of ridicule from the media and other fans...you can see how relieved him and mandaric were after the verdict..

And now..."Oh Harry come save us..take us to the promise land" "he is our man".."he is the one for england" blah blah blah

How hypocritical..how ironic

:rolleyes:

Sorry if already mentioned, but TalkSh#te made a good point last night, for a change.

AT the start of the season Modric wants to move to what he 'thought' would be a better club/upgrade but Levy and Redknapp refuse.
If Harry left for the England job ( a better job/upgrade argueably), what message does that send to Modric and any others looking to move upwards

I've just had a browse on SSN's website and there is about 30 separate articles from different managers, players, pundits, common plebs and groundsmen all saying the same thing - Arry for England

WHAT THE FCUK? Why is this allowed during the most improtant part of the season? As if the court case wasn't enough distraction and now this rubbish?

Fcuk everyone who contributed in the cycle which lead to this

Why isn't Levy issuing a statement telling all maggots to back off and he's under contract with Tottenham Hotspur FC

Rooney, A Johnson, Rio, Pardew, Villas-Boas all publicly talking about Harry for England.

it's tantamount to tapping up - especially as we play Man and Saudi Sportswashing Machine very soon.

Really the PL should instruct the clubs that their players can't talk about managers from rival clubs like this. it's undermining. and as with all the fan-love, a lot of this isn't 'Harry for England', it's 'let's naff up Spurs any way we can'.

We had that problem in the 70's. We had a couple of World Cup players who refused to join because they said "Keith who?!". Oh hang on.....

Well, maybe im naive but i dont see Harry like that. Im sure he loves his job and wants to win the premierleague. Do you really think Harry just wants to sit and watch Fergie or Wenger in action winning titles while he is playing friendlies. He knows International jobs are for brick managers like Sven or Mc Laren. But then again, maybe im naive or too optimistic.

yeah..................

but think of all dem free tickets he'd ave..........

From skysports webpage:

Poll

Who would you like to see succeed Fabio Capello as England manager?

* Jose Mourinho
* Roy Hodgson
* Harry Redknapp
* Roberto Mancini
* Stuart Pearce
* Arsene Wenger
* Alan Pardew
* Other

Why no Fergie? He'd probably be mad at them for disrupting his season with such nonsense, so they wouldn't dare put his name up there. dingdongS

Ive got a feeling that what harry been through and with that taco of a reporter from the NOTW,there may be a few skeletons that may come out because with all of this phone hacking thats been happening,you don't know what they found.

Harry private life im sorry to say will get scrutinised to the tenth degree by the scum of the press,they like to build you up and then smash you down.

If there are any reason he'll turn the job down it'll be from this angle i think and not football. Harry said he likes his privacy and he went ape brick when the cops broke into his house when he wasn't there and frightened his wife.

He has edge to him that does appear from time to time,and he will do a keegan if something happens and tinkles him off.

You know something you are right. Football in the 70's is exactly the same as it is now. The style is the same, the players are the same, agents are the same and everyone still plays CL football, heck... even the football's themselves are the same. Oh hang on....

Best fans in the world dont see racism, so dont worry about it.
Remember...YOU are the victim.

OT - Is Bermuda anything like Hawaii?

I don't know to be honest, as I've not been to Hawaii
Its not mountainous, and has no active or inactive volcano's - but it is the result of a big volcano that blew up out of the ocean millions of years ago

Its all beaches and golf courses, with a 400 year history of population.
60% Black African origin 40% White background (English, American, Canadian and Portuguese in descending order of numbers and influence)
Drive on the left, coppers look like Bobbies and are modelled on the Brit police (ie racist and violent)
Tiny place, 22 miles long - great chill out location with fantastic weather
Pricy to live here, as everything is shipped in.
