O/T Capello Resigns / New England Manager Speculation Thread

Mick I fully agree with you. People are blinded by their love for Parker to not see his faults. All players have them even messi. Sandro is currently a better footballer than Parker; but Parker is better at motivating players. Personally it would be Sandro all the way.

plus Sandro could kick your teeth out, without bruising your lips

I don't dislike Parker, I appreciate what he does, and am not disappointed when he plays. My biggest fear is that we will lose Sandro, who will go on to have a distinguished career elsewhere, and Parker will be too old to keep up his work rate in a couple of seasons.

(free hair gel if you get a number on the back)

I didn't mean that sarcastically - simply though you might have a list in your mind of preferred options.

I know you didn't mate I just hate it when someone says something like 'I don't rate Saha why have we bought him'. Then someone comes back with 'well who would you buy then' Dunno I'm not the manager!!!!

Anyhoo, I'm still tinkled off that ppl are practically tapping him up!!

Rooney, A Johnson, Rio, Pardew, Villas-Boas all publicly talking about Harry for England.

it's tantamount to tapping up - especially as we play Man and Saudi Sportswashing Machine very soon.

Really the PL should instruct the clubs that their players can't talk about managers from rival clubs like this. it's undermining. and as with all the fan-love, a lot of this isn't 'Harry for England', it's 'let's naff up Spurs any way we can'.

unless all thr above are on FA contracts then its nothing like tapping up!

And Levy isnt going to come out and say "no, leave well alone" - that would create too much friction which would engulf the rest of our season.

I actually think its a good thing - its on Harrys mind of course, but Harry seems focused and as a rseult the players will be focused (maybe even to the point where they leave him in no uncertain terms about where he needs to be if he going to acheive anything in football)

The choice fro Harry is really one of - do i let my career me a nearly man (built up WHam and nearly made them regular UEFA Cup qualifiers, built up and stabilisted Pompey and So'ton and nearly took them forward, built up Spurs, made CL and nearly created a new regular top 4 team, took over England and nearly did something with an everage bunch of players (just like every manager before him))

OR

Take Spurs from being nearly, to being top4 every year and competing from the league and other trophies - maybe (maybe), even winning some things............he has built like SAF did (after the bumpy first couple of years) and know he can keep doing it.

Is it really worth giving that up for the headache this is England?
Alan Sugar summed it up perfectly - "there is always some excuse" (why England dont win anything - players attitudes, WAGS, a suspension, the weather was wrong etc etc), and has been for a very long time......and it wont change.
(Hopefully Harry doesnt think HE can change that - because he cant, no one person can)

I think Sandro knows he is the future....

imo

Sandro is quality. No one denies that. Parker right now is the 'If it ain't broke don't fix it' option in our midfield. Parker all the way for me right now.

Nonsense, you cant actually believe that. No wait, this is a Spurs forum. You do actually believe that.

Explain to me then how it is nonsense. Why is it all a player cares about is his managers reputation?

We have seen it many times, players care about themselves first - so long as they get things their way I dont believe they care about much else

Harry's first selection as England manager

What do people think? Here's my prediction:

-------------------Rob Green--------------

--G Johnson-----Terry---R Ferdinand---Cashley Cole

---------Fat Frank---Parker----Gerrard----------

---------------------Rooney--------------------
------------Crouch--------------Defoe

Rest of squad:

GK: David James, Peter Shilton
Def: Phil Neville, Gary Neville, Dawson, Upson, Woodgate
Mid: Carrick, Wheelchair, The boy Joe Cole, Scholesey, Downing
CF: Owen, Carroll

Coaches: Peter Reid, Fat Sam, Kevin Bond, Joe Jordan, Steve Bruce, Tim Sherwood, Sir Les, Tony Pulis, Paul Ince

Sandro is more eye catching than Parker. Parker is currently the better player but if Sandro fulfills his potential he can be far better.

-------------------Hart

Johnson----Ferdinand----Terry-----A Cole

------------Carrick-----Parker

-------Gerrard----Lampard----J Cole

------------------Rooney

Surely Jamie would be captain.

West Brom boss Roy Hodgson claims it would be 'arrogant' to rule himself in or out of the running for the vacant England manager's post.

Harry Redknapp remains the overwhelming favourite to be appointed as Fabio Capello's successor, but alternative options are being discussed.

Hodgson's vast experience makes him an obvious candidate, with the 64-year-old having been involved in coaching for 30 years.

The vast majority of his management career has been spent at the helm of club sides, but he has also worked with Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and Finland at international level.

He has been billed as England manager material in the recent past, but Hodgson is reluctant to discuss any possible claims he has to the post while speculation continues to rage.
Backing

"I don't think it's right to say whether you are interested or not," he told Sky Sports News HD.

"The FA need to decide who they think are the right people. They need to decide what candidates are out there.

"It seems at the moment that Harry is receiving all of the backing from virtually all the quarters, but it's up to them to decide what they want to do.

"I don't think it's right for people like myself to say 'I'm interested' or 'I'm not interested' because I have no idea what the FA have got in mind or what they want to do."

Pressed on whether he would be interested in the role if it was offered to him, Hodgson added: "It's hypothetical. When and if that day comes, then I will be able to take stock of the situation and make a decision.

"I think it's arrogant to rule yourself in jobs or rule yourself out of jobs when there is no indication that anyone is going to want you in the first place."
Contract

Hodgson's contractual situation at West Brom means he could be lured away from The Hawthorns with the minimum of fuss, but he says he is happy to continue testing himself on short-term deals at club level.

"I think it's right to keep one's options open," he said.

"The situation we have here is a very good one and I enjoy my work here. Hopefully people appreciate the work I try to do, that's fine. I am happy to keep my options open but I haven't kept them open for any particular reason. I certainly haven't kept them open in relation to the England job.

"Basically speaking, I shall see what happens between now and the end of the season and hopefully be able to make a decision on my future a little bit later on.

"One would hope anyway that the Football Association will decide, as I have heard them say, that they want what they consider to be the right man for the job. I don't think whether people happen to be in or out of contract will necessarily affect that situation."

He'd bring King and let him bring his team with him, something Capello didn't do, what a mistake that was.

.........................Hart.................
Walker......Richards.....King......Cole
................Parker.....Wheelchair........
Lennon...........Gerrard..........Young
.....................Defoe.....................

He rates Walker, pretty sure he's said Richards would make a good centre back, King's not human, Cole's the best left back we have, He loves Scotty, Wheelchair would be picked, loves little Aaron, Gerrard will probably be captain, Young is rated highly and he loves Jermain

WALOB. Parker is what Parker is. No frills, no nonsense and gives 100%. He is also a better player technically than many give him credit for (I'd say better than Sandro in terms of first touch, passing etc) but he is clearly not a technical player in the mould of VDV or Modric and I haven't seen anyone claim he is.

As for goal scored, he scored 10 in 113 games for West Ham. Just to put this in perspective Modric has scored 12 in 113 for us. Sandro scored 4 goals in 68 apps for Internacional. I'd hardly call any of them goal threats, and I certainly see no evidence whatsoever that Parker wouldn't score as many as Sandro (not that goals scored means anything to the stats of a defensive midfielder)
