O/T Capello Resigns / New England Manager Speculation Thread

everytime i see Rodgers being mentioned, my mind goes back to George Burley and his time at Ipswich. Really good style of football, Ipswich defying the critics, but what did Burley go on to achieve. Some managers and some clubs just 'tick'. Take them out of that environment then its not always the same success
Burley couldn't even keep it going at Ipswich. Followed up 5th place with relegation. If we need to replace Harry going for a young manager with little experience is too much of a risk for my liking.

Reading did the same thing too, I think, first season up came in a very good position and then got relegated next season. Then look at the way it's turned sour for Coyle at Bolton so quickly. I don't think you can go for managers based on one or two seasons in the top flight. They need to prove they can do it consistently for a good few years before a club like Spurs considers hiring them.

I have to lol everytime I see Rogers name being mentioned for Spurs. Phil Brown did better in his time with Hull in the premiership. Shall we add him to the fudging departed list of names ?

Manager : Hi, this is Brandan Rogers here at Spurs, I would like to know If you would sign for us....
Any player that can kick a ball in a straight line : Who ?..........(phone down)

I think the Rodgers fascination comes from Mourinho once saying that he would be the next big thing... it's the reason he got 2 or 3 cracks at Championship clubs

To be fair, Ipswich couldn't sustain the wages and almost went bust and ended up selling everyone they had and starting again. Burley is still a legend there. He also won something crazy like the first 10 games at Hearts before their stupid Chairman starting trying to pick the team and they got rid of him.

Saying that he ain't done much since lol

he never managed in the Premiership again, so something put off potential employers

Why does he have to be available? We're restricting ourselves massively if we only look at managers who are out of work.

Carrick & Modric for all but City and Utd away. I'd drop Sandro in for those.

Same in the CL for away matches against the few teams who are better than us.

I think we would lack the type of bite we missed until Wilson came along. If Modric and Carrick were to play, Id also have a physical DM, with 3 in the centre.

imo

I think Harry would be foolish to take the England job. No success or good can come of it. He may yet still win the Premiership with Spurs over the next two or three seasons. He won't win a trophy with England, as we aren't good enough.

you are perfectly right in what you say. However he is one of the old school, the England job to him is probably the pinnacle of management. Like he says, if offered, how can any Englishman turn it down

If we were going to take a punt on a younger manager from the Premier League, I'd personally prefer Lambert to Rodgers. He's had success at every club he's been at bar a brief spell as player-manager at Livingston. His achievements with Norwich are extraordinary - two successive promotions is seriously impressive and Norwich are flying high in the league this year, practically safe from relegation already and have outscored everyone in the league outside the top 6. Yes, that includes Liverpool.

Not only that, but he's been there and done it all at the top level as a player. He's played abroad in a different culture and played and won in the Champions League final. He's definitely one to watch.

Ok - who would be your preferred names - both managing or free agents

Arc I've said time and time again that that is a poor comeback. Saying 'well who would you sign/be our next manager'. It's not up to me to decide after all. I'm saying that Levy will be looking at all his options. I want Mourinho but who doesn't? Another argument is me saying 'Anyone saying they don't want him is talking rubbish' IMO.

Notice the amount of Man U bigging up Harry for England?

Rio, Rooney, now SAF.

Sh#tting it from us

It's no co-incidence... Alex is clever enough to know that for ONCE we're a real threat... maybe not in winning the league, but certainly to THEIR position in 2nd place... if he wasn't worried about us, he wouldn't bother with us...

But let's face it, Wheelchair's been at it, Dennis Tueart was doing it on behalf on Emirates Marketing Project... I expect Kenny Dalglish is 100% behind the appointment...

IT'S A fudging CONSPIRACY! (again!!!!)

GHod forbid Spurs should actually make a SERIOUS tilt at the title without SOMETHING destabilising the club... this is a perfect example! Getting to the CL 2 years ago was a blip... we upset the script... no one saw it coming... IT MUST NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN AGAIN...

The FA must've been scratching their heads;
"think of something... quick! I know, let's play on John Terry's inability to keep his mouth shut and put Fabio in a position he can't back out of... the rest will take care of itself... PERFECT!!"

FERGIE & WENGER FOR ENGLAND DREAM TEAM all the way for me!!

I didn't mean that sarcastically - simply though you might have a list in your mind of preferred options.

in fairness a lot of the discussion about Rodgers was about if we decided to go for an 'up and coming' manager. My preference would be for an established name who has gone through ups and downs and yet remained successful. I do think we will need a statement manager to keep our progress going. Mourhino is the clear choice for me, but really can't see us getting him. Not impossible, but can see Aresenal suddenly deciding to be ruthless with Wenger...

What is he holding?

Hair product?

All this coverage is starting to irritate. Amazed at the brazen calls for our manager, absolutely no respect at all. Really need a major performance tomorrow to reassert the fact that we are in the top 3 mix and don't intend on going away.

That is my biggest fear. We are trying to really make a significant step forward, risking it for a younger inexperienced manager is not what Levy will do.
