O/T Capello Resigns / New England Manager Speculation Thread

Redknapp appeared to rule out the possibility of coaching England and Tottenham at the same time, saying: "It is hard enough managing a league club let alone managing your country, it's two very difficult jobs.

"I think your focus has got to be on one job, you can't be going home thinking, 'Who's playing well in this situation?'

"I can't take my eye off the ball at Tottenham at the moment because we're looking to get Champions League football, we're still in the FA Cup and I owe it to them to continue to keep completely focused on the job I'm doing here.

"It wouldn't be fair to anybody here if I started to let my thoughts wander elsewhere."

He wont walk out on Spurs now, if you read between the lines - but he will be off after this season

And I guess that a scenario where he finishes the season at Spurs is the best, we can hope for

Arc love ya mate but why is Hiddink considered the only manager out there who could take over at a level Harry has us in currently. Who thought Redknapp would do what he's done. Or Pardew would do what he's doing at the barcodes. Or Rodgers in the Premiership?

Who else is reallistically available at the moment, mate?

Bit off-topic but anybody notice the photo of HR arriving at Spurs Lodge today? Wearing UA already!

I have to lol everytime I see Rogers name being mentioned for Spurs. Phil Brown did better in his time with Hull in the premiership. Shall we add him to the fudging departed list of names ?

Manager : Hi, this is Brandan Rogers here at Spurs, I would like to know If you would sign for us....

Harry 'flattered' by England talk

Spurs boss remains firm favourite for role

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp admits he is 'flattered' at being favourite for the vacant England job.

Redknapp has emerged as the public's choice to replace Fabio Capello, who departed the job on Wednesday evening when he resigned in the aftermath of John Terry being stripped of the captaincy.

The Spurs boss, who this week was cleared of tax evasion charges, now finds himself odds-on to take charge of the Three Lions, although he insists that he has not yet been approached by the Football Association.

"It is flattering," he admitted. "It's nice, I'd be lying if I said otherwise.

"I'd have to consider it obviously, but there's been no approach."

Harry Redknapp Quotes of the week

Redknapp admits being the 'public choice' is great to hear and is pleased to know he has the backing of the fans.

"Of course it is nice, people put me in a position that I have a chance of getting the job, it is flattering and other managers have come out and said nice things," he continued.

"It is difficult, I am focused on Tottenham, the club have been great - Daniel [Levy, Spurs chairman] has brought me here and things could not have gone better. I love every minute, great players, an excellent team and I could not be happier."

Difficult

Some reports have suggested that Redknapp could do the England job part-time and even return to Spurs after Euro 2012, but he insists you would need to be fully committed to the role.

"It is difficult, very difficult," he admitted. "It is hard enough managing a league club, let alone your country, (they are) two very difficult jobs and your focus has to be on one job.

"I think you can't go home thinking 'who is playing well' and then you can't take your eye off the ball with Tottenham, so I owe it to them to keep completely focused."

Redknapp admits he was looking forward to returning to 'normality' after his court case, but just hours later Capello quit.

"I have had weeks of cameras, but it is a better situation today, I just want to get back to normality," he said.

"When all this blew up on Thursday, suddenly the England job comes up and I get talked about. I was looking to calm down for a few days and looking to get back here, and I would like to say thanks to the boys who kept it going.

"When you go through things like I have, you find out who your friends are."

Redknapp also had time for a joke as he was asked whether he agreed with the FA's decision to strip Terry of the captaincy.

"You're trying to get me out of the job before I am in it!" he laughed.

everytime i see Rodgers being mentioned, my mind goes back to George Burley and his time at Ipswich. Really good style of football, Ipswich defying the critics, but what did Burley go on to achieve. Some managers and some clubs just 'tick'. Take them out of that environment then its not always the same success

Sandro, if he can stay fit for more than 5 games in a row, will go to partner Modric
Sandro is a beast, who will go on to be feted as McKays love child

Sandro is soooo much better than parker
and carrick

and yes I know they are not similar players

but similar enough

same number of heads, legs, arms etc

Really?! I think you're tripping out of your mind if you seriously think that Sandro is way better than Parker. If he is, then why did Redknapp favour Parker over Sandro? I'd say they are about even in terms of ability, with Parker getting the nod due to experience and being on a better wavelength with Modric than Sandro appears to be.

I can't deny. I would be 10 x more looking forward to watching England in the euros with Harry there but only if we have someone top in to replace him before it starts.

Daniel, you did it with Ramos, do it with Jose. I would polish your head.

Carrick & Modric for all but City and Utd away. I'd drop Sandro in for those.

Same in the CL for away matches against the few teams who are better than us.

The Carrick of a few years ago was vastly better than Parker or Sandro (because he'd tackle and intercept as much as them, but was a lot better on the ball too), but now? I don't think so to be honest. And with two out and out wingers, a more combatitive defensive midfielder is probably more suited than a cultured one.

I think Harry would be foolish to take the England job. No success or good can come of it. He may yet still win the Premiership with Spurs over the next two or three seasons. He won't win a trophy with England, as we aren't good enough.
