O/T Capello Resigns / New England Manager Speculation Thread

Because surely if he takes over before the Euro, they end up losing to France and Ukrainia, he'll have a nightmare for the next two years. No day to day to day management either. Just the media tinkling him off and stupid friendlies.

Same as.

The FA think its the biggest job in the world. They want a man in full time and without reservation.

If Harry refuses, they go for someone else. Simple.

Best we can hope, if they want Harry is that they allow him to finish the season first

When he was on trail a certain element of our support was creaming itself at the possibility of replacing him, throwing fantasy names around like confetti. Those people must have had some serious swings of mood when he was first acquitted, thus shattering their dreams, and then Capello quits immediately, thus re-igniting their dreams that Redknapp will finally be moved on and we'll get our dream Manager who is going to be the best Manager we've had since Bill Nick. I don't know what I find more absurd, those who clearly want shot of Redknapp but won't publically admit it (their excitement on topics of replacing them betrays their true feelings though) or some of the names bandied around!

Can't deny him the England. It's all he's ever wanted. He would be crazy to turn it down, even at the risk of all his media pals turning against him in 2/3 years time.

Im not convinced he will be that bothered. He would be virtually semi retired. Would have (what he considers) the biggest job in the country, none of the hours and stress every week, all the time in the world to pursue his other interests (media etc) and a free pass to watch as much football as he likes.

Tell me that wouldnt appeal to him!!

But we finish the season in May, Surely they cant appoint someone two weeks before the competition starts? I know they can but seriously the rest of the world will mock England for the timing. You have two years to get ready and the manager turns up ten days before? Cant see that happening.

Well, maybe im naive but i dont see Harry like that. Im sure he loves his job and wants to win the premierleague. Do you really think Harry just wants to sit and watch Fergie or Wenger in action winning titles while he is playing friendlies. He knows International jobs are for brick managers like Sven or Mc Laren. But then again, maybe im naive or too optimistic.

If the FA had any balls, they'd come out and say players should not be publicly commenting or speculating on the next manager appointment. Not only is it unsettling the current manager of another Premier League club, it also puts the next manager in a bit of a pickle. Imagine if it's Hodgson that's appointed and he calls up Rooney and Rio to the squad, knowing that they'd prefer someone else managing the team. It's just not necessary.

Tell me what difference it makes.

Manager takes job now, cant get his hands on the players until after the season.
or
Manager takes job at end of the season and gets stuck straight in.

Equally, Harry (if he got the job) would have the rest of the season to think about players/squad etc. In fact I bet he could rattle off his 25 players right now if you asked him - but then who couldnt?

Neither of us actually know for sure do we?

I can see a lot in the life style that would appeal to him. All Im really saying is I dont think you can say with any real authority that he WOULD miss it all and therefore wouldnt take the job. (Same as I cannot say otherwise, just offer reasonable doubt..)

JJetset over at SC

Great buzz around the club and the training ground today, everyone is really happy especially Harry!
I think the print media are going to be very unhappy as Harry has 18 months left on his contract and Daniel does like a contract to be honoured!!
So Harry is flattered obviously and he sees being asked to lead the country as the ultimate honour(must be an older generation thing) and if still available next summer and was considered he would be interested.
Good news for spurs and as Ryan and I said the other week keep singing his name as we said at the time how much that meant to him and it reinforces his mind a bit too.
So nothing to see here and the press needs to find someone else!
Based on the mood I expect a strong performance at the weekend!!!

I tend to see the difference.

-First of all he could be there for the friendlies and start working with the players instead on telling them what he expects from them 10 days before

-It would be better for the players to know who the manager will be

-And the most important thing, it would look more professional to the rest of world. Not good if the manager turns up just as they fly to Poland. They would look stupid, trust me, if 2 weeks before the competition no one knew who would be managing the team.

For me either Harry commits to Spurs or leaves now. I don't want a situation where he's announced as England manager once the seasons over, and the suggestion that he does the roles part-time is a complete insult. The distraction, pressures, and media circus would be hanging over us in our most important league campaign in 20 years.

If we've got a problem with Harry we need to address it now rather than delay the inevitable. We're a very attractive proposition and there are some top managers we could get which may not be the case in a few months time.
