I really really really really really really really really want FDB because of his attention and desire to building a club as a whole. He takes great pride and reward in setting foundations to set a club on its way which will last even after his exit.

He said he wouldn't want to manage Barca because there is nothing new he can teach it. I.E he has great believe in his knowledge and wants to pass it on and create another Barca.

Give him a 5 year contract LEVY! You missed out on LVG but this appointment could be just as golden.
Rafa, Poch and co may help the first team for a couple years but after they leave we will be back to square one.

Still undecided about FDB. He might have won 4 league titles with Ajax but Dutch league is shyte and is rated lowly. Wish we can get more experienced managers like Gus Hiddink. But then would rather we get FDB than those young and unsuccesfull managers like Pochetino, Moyes, Martinez etc.

Unsuccessful in terms of what? Trophies won? Martinez has won the FA Cup, with Wigan, that's pretty impressive. Would they all be better qualified for the job if they went off to a one team league like the SPL and won a couple of league titles with Celtic?

Can someone - ANYONE - tell me WTF this messianic fervour about FDB is based on? What has he actually achieved? Winning the Dutch league? Honestly? Seriously? is that it???!!! FFS Steve McLaren achieved the same with a far less heralded team!!! I've seen comments that he can set the foundations? Of what exactly? Ajax have had those foundations in place since the days Johan Cruyff graduated from their academy..

So please those of you who are so clearly sure about FDB, please enlighten us on the basis of your convictions...

Well, Scottish league had produced Alex Ferguson, so you cannot under estimate them. But I do want us to appoint a experienced manager who have won the league title atleast once in a top European league.

The only difference being that Fergie led Aberdeen - yes Aberdeen - to break the Glasgow stranglehold and to prove the point then won the ?Cup Winners Cup at a time when it was a competition team aspired to win. By the same yardstick, why not appoint Lennon who did the same with Celtic?

Ajax didn't win the league for 7 years before FDB joined. Yes the dutch league is ****e but each team is as ****e as each other so the challenge to win is as difficult as any other league.
its commonly accepted in Holland that the Ajax squad doesn't have better players than any other team, they are considered overall equal to PSV and Feyenoord. Its FDBs management that had made the difference. No manager in the leagues history has won 4 in a row.
So with Lamela and co at his disposal who knows what he could do.

Rubbish Ajax have far better players then other teams.

Sorry mate - WALOB! that is pure cr**

Ajax not having better players than Volendam, Venlo or Den Haag? Or even Feyenoord or PSV? On which football planet are you living on?

And if FDB's management has made such a difference (as Fergie did with Aberdeen those decades ago) then the sum should be greater than the collection of the parts... so, what has the great FDB achieved in Europe in these past 4 years? Answers on a postage stamp accepted...

I hate this whole "lol he can do it in the Dutch league" bull****.

Then again, probably the same macarons that would have dismissed suarez because he could score 40 league goals against the likes of volendam

We have seen countless players who ONLY did it in the Dutch league fail spectacularly in England - van Wolfsie being the latest...

That is why I would have expected to FDB's CV interspersed by the (at least) occasional scalp of a big shot team in the CL as evidence of his supposedly meteoric capabilities.

Without that, he remains as much as gamble as giving Sherwood another year at the helm; and believe me I have no wish to see the latter!!

He did beat Barca, then again so did Neil Lennon.

Both FDB and Poch have clear systems that they will want their players to implement out on the pitch, as FDB himself said in an interview last week regarding Spurs: He see's himself as a coach, not a manager and as such he favours improving the games of young talented players, to managing ego's of elite players. His current charges all want him to stay and those that have worked with him (Eriksen and Vertonghen) only have positive things to say. The man wants to redevelop and entire club to play the same way so to produce young players with the basic skills needed to succeed with the first team.

Pochettino in all this hasn't said much either way, although we do get the odd interview from staff at Southampton talking about there admiration for his level of detail and dedication. I read about how he spends hours developing new drills that are specific to situations in the game that the team create and how he will even be working on them the night before games. There are whispers that the players have completely bought into his philosophy and that many of them would consider moves away (Lallana, Shaw and Rodriguez have been named) if he were to leave. Other than the Espanyol situation which others have spoken about in this thread, there aren't really any negative things to say about him.

The fact that we have only heard positive things about these two speaks volumes and I don't think we will find anyone better. I know people would prefer the next Ferguson or Wenger, but we aren't going to find a coach with that many years under their belt and that good a record just waiting to be snapped up.

Pochettino. Seriously hope we don't take a chance with this guy. Madness. Disaster written all over it. Go all out for Martinez or hope we get very very lucky with ancelotti.

Why does Poch have disaster written all over it? What do we do if Martinez and Ancelotti aren't available?

I am sold on Poch. Was sold on AVB too though. Still believe AVB was taking us slowly in the right direction. Hopefully Poch can get us back on track developing the players in to a team. A cohesive and fluid unit.

There just is nothing about him that says yes to me. If others are unavailable than David pleat it it.
I agree, I though AVB would get us there in time.

I think that Poch has done an excellent job at Southampton. I like the way his team plays and they are more than a sum of their parts. I suspect that some of their players who are being linked with big money moves will see their form drop when they move on. I do have concerns that he is too nice though and that he might be undone in a job where he is under more scrutiny. I do not think that he will be able to get away with talking through an interpreter if he joins us and the fact that he wants to do this at Southampton suggests that he is not confident in handling the media.
