Stick with Sherwood. Not exactly fantastic but least it's someone who's had time with our players!

Pochetino could go anywhere.
De Boer could be another AVB.
Moyes - well I never rated him when he was at Everton and his United record didn't say much otherwise to me.

Good luck with Bentaleb, Ade and 9 new journeyman workhorses.

It will be the biggest exodus since Moses if Timmeh isn't removed quick smart.

Roberto Martinez says speculation linking him with Tottenham proves he is doing a good job at Everton.

Three defeats in four matches have ruined Martinez's hopes of securing Champions League qualification in his first season on Merseyside, but Everton are guaranteed to finish fifth.

That is at least one place better off than Tottenham, who are expected to replace Tim Sherwood as manager over the summer, and Martinez is among the names linked with White Hart Lane.

Asked to comment on the rumours, he said: "It is a little bit as I always answer - any sort of speculation we take as a real footballing compliment.

"This is the time you are going to get rumours, with talk about new squads and the next moves.

"From our point of view, it means we have done something right - that, as a football team, we are performing well. That affects players, members of staff and managers. We take it in a positive manner and just carry on working hard."

Among Martinez's most eye-catching achievements this season has been the successful introduction of Ross Barkley and John Stones as first-team regulars.

Defender Stones' recent progress has been rapid enough that he is now being mentioned as an outside chance for a World Cup place.

Martinez said: "If Roy Hodgson decides the youngsters are to be called up to the World Cup, I can guarantee you they are ready.

"John Stones has shown he is in a very good moment of form and at a very good level. Character-wise, I can guarantee anyone that he is ready to embrace whatever challenge comes his way.

"The truth is that the young players have had a huge role. You need to judge players by their performances. The age shouldn't affect the role of a player in a national team.

"Players like Ross Barkley and John Stones have been playing beyond their years and their performances have been of a calibre whereby you know they will help, whatever team they represent."

Interesting answer from Martinez.

Quite different from the kind of answers managers like Klopp and Pep gave when asked about the United job.

Not the kind of commitment to Everton over us I'm sure the Everton fans would have preferred. For us at least it's not a "no".

Yeah, he didn't really say anything one way or the other.

Keeping his options open? :-k

That was my initial reaction too.

Honestly I was expecting something a lot more like "I was loyal to Wigan and I've just been at Everton for a season, I'm not looking for a move this summer." Or "We're will finish ahead of Tottenham this season, with all due respect..."

Edit: Cheers Jordinho. Was thinking the same thing myself, what did he say during his time at Wigan when it was pretty clear that he didn't want to leave?

We might be in with a shout...

Here's a statement he made when Aston Villa made an approach in 2011:

"Over the last two years the chairman has been very supportive to me and loyal, and now I feel I need to be loyal and supportive back to him," said Martinez, whose attractive brand of football at both Swansea and the Latics has won him many admirers.

"I haven't finished my job at Wigan Athletic. There is much work still to be done, I don't know how long that will take but such is the belief that I have always had that I would only ever decide to move once the club is ready for a new manager."

Never say never, but I can't see him wanting to join us. He's one year into his project over there, doing well, got a great relationship with his players and the fans, almost got them into the CL - why would he quit that after only a year for a team that has a tendency to damage the reputation of managers (let alone sack them)?

On the other hand, why would he answer like that if he had no interest in joining us?

I think you overestimate our reputation for damaging the reputation of managers. Jol got jobs at Ajax, Hamburg and Fulham, remember he came to us an assistant at first. Ramos is the one I suppose that saw his reputation hurt the most perhaps? Caretaker job at Real apart he went from being super highly rated at Sevilla to jobs at CSKA Moscow and Dnipro. Redknapp came very close to the England job whilst at us, he got a very highly paid job at QPR and he would have no problems matching the Pompey job he had before joining us if he was willing to move further. The Zenit job is a step down from the PL for AVB, but compared to the Porto job it's not a big step down and his reputation outside England seems about at the level it was when Chelsea sacked him.

I think both Ramos and AVB have chosen the money rather than take on a lesser club in Spain or Italy.

Gross spent 10 years at Basel after leaving us, winning four Swiss Super Leagues and four Swiss Cups and having several good runs in Europe. He was then manager at Stuttgart where he did really well in his first season, but got sacked after poor start to the next one.

Quite possibly. I don't think their reputation has been trashed, but I think they left with a somewhat worse reputation than when they came. For Jol and Redknapp it was the opposite I think.

Overall, little reason to think that we're a club that damages the reputations of managers.

But he probably isn't the best man available for the job if he's already p****d off Levy.

Levy has had his hands burnt due to poor working relationships with the last few managers.

I don't think he really saw eye-to-eye with Redknapp, but Redknapp's a clever old boy and plays the game well so there wasn't a problem until he turned down a new contract, started flirting with the England job then demanded a big new contract when Hodgson got the gig.

The working relationship with Levy and the club is key here. The best manager for Spurs isn't necessarily the best manager on paper, or even the one that has the best powerpoint anymore.

We've also got to consider that the club have had a PR nightmare under AVB and Sherwood with AVB's public spats with the press and Sherwood's gobby self-serving pressers.

For De Boer to just blow up everything in Levy's face by releasing details of a confidential and sensitive discussions and then causing an embarrissing and public s***-storm with Sherwood where Levy has to sit there and grin & bear it while Sherwood gobs off about people telling porkies.......no wonder we've decided thanks, but no thanks.

De Boer has already shown a preference for gobbing off in the press at every opportunity and his brother likes to wade in with his 2 penny's worth every 2 seconds as well.

I don't have much time for John Cross but he's just tweeted - another come and get me plea from De Boer, this is getting embarrassing.

Well its Ajax he's doing it to now, but a couple of seasons in and he'll be shamelessly dragging our name through the press as he flirts with Barca and Real Madrid.

If Pochettino has had the same discussions with Levy & the club off the record and has kept an impressive straight bat, then I'm sure if there wasn't much to choose between them in Levy's eyes (and honestly for me, there really isn't a lot in it), then I'm pretty sure things have swung hugely in Pochettino's favour with the powers that be at THFC.

It's something I posted about earlier in the thread.

I really don't think De Boer has done himself any favours at all and I think i'd go so far as saying he's blown whatever opportunity he had to manage THFC.

If the likes of Barca and Madrid are flirting with him in a couple of years, then it would mean that he'd have done a good job with us for a couple of years. Quite frankly, with the way things have gone this season, I could live with that. Let's face it, there's a pecking order in football, and when clubs like Madrid come knocking, be it for our players, physios, groundsmen or managers, chances are, they're not going to be around much longer. So whilst I agree with you that his conduct has been less than ideal, if he's the right man for the job right now (and I don't know enough about him to know if he is), then that shouldn't be a reason not to pursue him.

What about that Jesus guy from Benfica? That would **** Timmeh off!

Lots of good headlines about yids crucifying Jesus when it inevitably goes wrong.

He has a very good record at Benfica. They have made it to the Uefa cup final. Won the league and the Portuguese cup. Were unlucky not to get through to the knockout stages of the champions league on 10 points. They consistently do will in Europe in spite of having to constantly sell their best players.

But I hear he does not speak a word of English and loves it to much at Benfica.

He is not sexy enough for most people. An old school manager really.

And also a ****1n embarrassment if he behaves like he did against us every week! If Tim gets stick for his behavior now imagine the stick this muppett would get if he takes over.
