Next Manager?

After being linked with Conte and Poch, whoever we bring in will have a smaller name. And the worry there is as soon as you get 2/3 bad games in a row, questions will be asked not just by fans but pundits too.

Levy should have kept things under wraps, especially when Conte news broke it seemed to the world it was on the cards and the club allowed that to snowball too (no media clarifications etc).

Now whether it's Potter or someone else Levy has created an air of disappointment whoever the new guy is. Seriously fed up over the issue now

No because ajax sprung an extension on his deal as did psg with poch. Conte was out of contract. We had poch has asked to leave psg stories, did he? Or was that flimflam?

I agree it was a mess as in all over the press. I agree that spurs should keep their mouths shut. I agree this all makes levy look like a bit of a dingdong and can't make his mind up. I just don't think levy cares what the media are going to say about Derp He'll want to get who he thinks is right for spurs going forward, if that takes another week so be it.
Yes he is opportunistic and will try for a deal that might be unlikely. Eriksen came off as did bale (loan) and mourinho. Others didn't.

I understand it's frustrating for fans and managers. But it's been 20 years now, we know how he works. It's not some evil plot, he just wants to get the best deals for spurs. It doesn't always work out but he's not trying to destroy the club.

I don’t think Levy wants to destroy the club. I think he’ll do whatever it takes to keep us in the top 6 because that’s a level of risk he is comfortable dealing with. I don’t think he has the playbook or the financial clout or the desire to do what it takes to make us a winning club in the way people like Poch and Kane wanted us to be.

I do think that he wants Spurs to look ambitious and big time, because it helps him. I think the timing and the ferocity of the links this past week were pretty suspect.

Honestly, if we got Conte or Poch, I was all aboard the ENIC train again. I thought we had the intention to really compete and were a big club. We might have had to do it in a different way, but clearly we had a pitch to attract some top tier managerial talent. Now though? We’ve gone from Poch to ETH / Potter / Martinez at best, we’ve taken 2 months minimum to do it, and we’ve dropped from 3rd to 7th, from Champions League to Conference League, and I think it’s very clear that ENIC don’t have the capacity of the intention to have us regularly competing for the title. If they did, Conte would have joined.

I don’t think Levy wants to destroy the club. I don’t think he’s evil. I just don’t think he’s the guy to have us be regularly up there. He was a great guy to take us from mid table into a regular top 6. But I don’t think he’s more than that, even though he’ll try and spin it that way when opportunities arise.

Fair enough. Totally agree he wants us to look big, sponsors esl etc... we been fighting above our weight for a while. Leicester have too, by following a similar formulae but going for more risk reward.

Depends on whether you want the manager to have a say in transfers

That would be ideal, but given the path we appear to be on, the order is set it seems. I have absolutely no idea whether Patrici is the real deal or not, but if we're hanging our hat on him it appears that he is the one who is going to make the decision?

I just adore how football fans chuck multi million sums about like they were molecules of air. No sense of accountability or care for where it comes from.

Thank heaven Levy doesn't.

That's it. The simple fact is Levy and Enic simply don't have the budget to throw billions at managers and players like some clubs can. That's it. We're not flush like some teams are. We can't just make money appear out of thin air.

So, unless we get some insane multi-billionaire owner in who's willing to splash cash like he's toying with it - that's where we'll be.

If Conte didn't want to join because he couldn't get a 500 mill war chest, then so be it. We just don't have it.

What about if he asked for assurances Kane wouldn't be sold? Or that the money would go back into the squad and was told no?

He may well have done. Or he might have asked for a swimming pool in his desk with rabid otters. Which personally i would have gave him. But levy might have thought no, they might give the players rabies and doris the tea lady has to put up with enough with my harvey Weinstein hands without feeding tuna to rabid otters. We'll never know.

Sorry just watch a youtube vid of giant otters killing a crocodile, and a monkey. Those boys are leathal. Not sure i want that at spurs.

Hasn't stopped 300 pages of discussion though has it, or people making assumptions that paint are dealings in a better light while at the same time saying we shouldn't assume anything.

Easier said than done to keep things under wraps. Would be quite a lot of people involved and with knowledge about negotiations like these, all with different agendas and with different incentives to leak.

With what we know about Levy from his time here I'm rather certain that he would have wanted to keep everything quiet, not a solid source anywhere until the deal was done. That's to me rather obviously how he wants to do his business.

When things start leaking with somewhat credible reports obviously the club and Levy will have some incentive to leak information to try to control the narrative, that I think they will do.

It's a long and tiring process for us as fans, getting our hopes up, thinking about different permutations, getting invested in certain candidates only to have the return of the same uncertainty.

For me the right thing to do is to try not to get caught up in the hour by hour, day by day reports. Keep updated, but somewhat distanced.

Agreed - its why I've been keeping on GG since teh season end too!

Very little to get excited about with Spurs at the moment, only frustration. Therefore better for your own health to kee something of a distance. At least Jose is gone, but our efforts to appoint a manager look unfortunate at best or desperate at worst. I cant imagine why Kane would want to leave...

Smaller name than Poch or Conte? I can't think of any manager with a 3-letter name.

It's Ten Hag's last name just Hag?

I'm consistently amazed at how much weight clearly intelligent people give to how something feels.

In hindsight at least our problems with the appointment make sense. I think we waited until the end of the season to see what options we would have. That makes sense as we would risk missing out on a preferred candidate by moving earlier.

Then our ambition level isn't matched by our recent performance levels, standard when a manager gets the sack. So we try for managers that are borderline in terms of being possible. That takes time and there's a risk of not finding agreement. Doing this with several candidates will take even more time.

Levy is probably in a hurry, but I doubt he's desperate. I hope he isn't at least. Trying for Poch and Conte seems like a good decision, if that can't happen move on to the next name on the list. Needs to happen quickly, but trying to make things happen quicker than possible will only hurt us.

Call me silly, but Conte to Spurs might not be completely off the table. I mean, what team is left for Conte to go to? Like it or not, Spurs are the biggest team without a coach right now. Unless Conte wants to take a year off, he might want to reconsider.

Perhaps Levy knowing that didn't budge much on the negotiations? Just taking a wild guess here...

You may be silly, but you might also be right. That's one of the best ways of being silly imo.

I think it's very unlikely, but not entirely impossible.

Isn't the point though that you would or should know this before going after certain managers such as Conte and Jose Mourinho? If you pursue the top tier managers then you are giving the impression you have money to spend. If you haven't why waste everyone's time?

United, Arsenal and PSG will all potentially be available before Christmas. United is probably the best fit for him of any club
