No, this is one of those (unfortunately regular) events where a quoteless junk story in a junk rag gets taken as gospel by fans.
You mean those who believe everything they read/hear to push their agendas.?

No, it looks like the expected impact of Covid means the amount available to spend is a lot less.
I am interested, if Spurs fans were not getting wound up by our manager appointment, what else would they doing?
Getting wound up by our transfer dealings?
Where in that article does it say anything about Villa spending the amounts that would keep Conte happy?Villa look to be going about their business.

This wouldn't shock me. Levy has rarely seen things the way the fans do. He might well have an alternative view on how good the squad is.So everyone and their mothers all said
Maybe its only the fans who want the rebuild and Levy wants the next manager to get the best out of this squad?

Spurs Community seems to have gone into ITK meltdown!
They were all changing their avatars to Conte pics on Thursday night then all started crying Friday night.Which means all the ITKs have jacked in as the natives finally saw through the constant rubbish that they post.
These are the points we should be worried about, stuff that's beyond reasonable doubt to have actually happened - no guess work, no leaps in logic, no conspiracy etc
Levy set his stall out with a direct message regarding the type of manager we were looking to appoint - it followed the names that we were being linked heavily with and all but confirmed by the Ally Gold crowd, Nagelsmann, ETH, Poch - we then target a manager who appears to be the opposite of that - so where's the plan there? That's a fair complaint and one i have myself - although more than a few people have been at pains to tell us that Conte would be a fantastic appointment, so who knows?
You are absolutely certain our owners don’t enjoy using the media to boost their own reputation with the fans in a way that gets them a tonne of positive coverage for free
I don't know that we need a rebus per se, but we do need to clear the dead wood. There is far too much of it clogging up the squad.Absolutely. This rebuild that everyone seems to be talking about comes from where exactly? How many of our squad could be described as too old or past it? Admittedly some are here too long and/or aren’t good enough.
But we’ve spent a lot on possibly very good players such as Lo Celso, NDombele, Reguilon and Bergwijn and no surprise if Levy/Hitchen want a coach that’ll get them to live up to their potential.
Am i? I don't recall making such a statement- I've questioned the specific idea that publicly chasing Conte/Poch was undertaken solely for a PR push...
Pumped by both sidesTo be clear, I don’t think anyone has an issue with trying to get them. They have an issue with how those stories were pumped from the Spurs side, only for them to fall down for entirely predictable reasons.
That suggests PR opportunism was a big part of it. Particularly when we don’t have any leaks coming from the club unless we really want them to.
No it doesn't, it suggests like with most things over the last few years the club gives confirmation to the likes of Ally Gold on open rumours that have legs - as someone else earlier in the thread showed, the early reports from these guys was we were indeed speaking to them, no more - fans got whipped in to a frenzy over everything that came after.
As i keep telling you there is no positive press from us talking to elite managers and ending up appointing chumps like Southgate or Martinez
Pumped by both sides
Yeah, you’d think that wouldn’t you? Which begs the question as to why it was allowed to play out that publicly. It’s either stupidity or cynicism.
I still don’t understand why, if your version of them just innocently confirming rumours that have legs - to the three most prominent Spurs correspondents plus a guy from one of the nationals all at the same time - is correct, why they couldn’t have just said ‘we’re talking to a number of potential candidates, and are running a thorough process as we have done since April. Conte is a great manager but we don’t want to comment on individuals at this stage.’
Why not just say that? What was the benefit to briefing Conte as the clear front runner?
Have they got it wrong?Sure. But I don’t support Conte, I support Spurs. So I’m more interested in the role they played in getting this all so badly wrong.
Sorry but how do you know spurs said to anyone conte was the clear front runner? Media over dramatise everything. It's their job.
If these reports wind you up so much stop reading them. Many of us read them with a pinch of salt and if it doesn't come off fair enough. How many years have you been into football? Every transfer window it's the same, club gets linked to player/manager xyz. The media build it up because it sells papers, majority don't come off. This happens for every club. If you can't handle the dissapointment of it not coming off stop reading the stories or spending all day in new manager/transfer threads. Because many wont come off.
You think there aren't barca fans out there now crying because wijnaldum is going to psg instead of them. Probably moaning saying but why was the club doing a pr spin saying we were signing him blah blah, season ticket blah blah...
Only one team can buy grealish so either city or utd fans will be crying into their beer.
