Next Manager?

This ‘episode’? We have held discussions with managers we would potentially be interested in working with, same as happens in any other industry. Nothing beyond that, if you want to get suckered into the ‘noise’ then that’s up to you. Please don’t tell me Ali Gold is some great connection from inside the club because it’s been proved time and time again he isn’t.

As for ambition, we looked to see if it could work with one of the top coaches in the game right now - two if you count Poch. Forgive me for thinking that’s more ambitious than just going straight to Potter at Brighton and seeing if we can attract him….

Ali Gold, Dan KP, JPB and Matt Law all pumping the story at the exact same time.

I think you are doing exactly what they want you to do. We showed ambition, so you’re comfortable that the owners actually have ambition, regardless of the fact that they aren’t following through.

Also please tell me how it’s been proven Gold doesn’t have a line to the club? He’s reliable. It doesn’t mean he is always going to speak positively about the club, but they definitely use him to pump stories.

Unfortunately, it does follow a pattern of our involvement with potential ‘big’ player signings which stall at the last moment. Gives the impression that we want to compete without having to shell out the sums of money necessary to really be involved at the top end.
We start shelling out since the stadium was built. The belt was tightened when the stadium was being built and loosened again.
Ndombele (whatever you think of him) was regarded as one of the most promising players in Europe and had a lot of big clubs interested, we got him, a change post stadium.

If i was a guessing I'd say that they got the nod we were talking to Conte and little else.

I only tend to read the twitter links posted on here but it appeared to me once the usual places started posting about contracts demands and what not our 3 followed suit - they still have coin to earn at the end of the day and going by the websites they work for and the content they produce they certainty aren't above a bit of clickbait

If we’re gonna shell out more post stadium, I think we would have gotten Conte. If we were actually serious about wanting to bring him in.

He would have known talking to us that we didn’t have City money, but would want to see some good backing from an ESL club with a 60k stadium. Seems we didn’t offer it.

The pattern is too obvious. ENIC have repeated it over too many years now. The playbook is there - I really do think they play these games to keep enough of the fans on side so it keeps the pressure off of them. We play at being a top club and don’t follow through.

Maybe you missed it, but there's a pandemic going on that has reduced our income (and all clubs) to practically zero

Matt Law reporting they were ‘closing in on Conte, and a number of players viewed the appointment as a coup.’

They all also got the Paratici story.

I think the club know exactly what they are doing. Nothing is leaked if they don’t need it to be. We heard absolutely zero for almost 2 months. Then all of a sudden, we seemingly were conducting negotiations in public with both Poch and Conte. For a club that likes to keep things private and professional. It’s a bit suspect. They would know exactly how the fans would read it.

Well the baron spell will continue. That’s not how we operate . Especially this season. We have no manager to even express targets needed. It’s a shambles. Just worried we are going to end up with Martinez . If that’s the case I would rather Potter .

If we sign Martinez we might as well give up.

The longer this drags on the more it seems like we’re going to end up with one of the international team managers who’ll move on at the end of the Euros instead of an existing club manager. It’s all pointing to Martinez for me Clive.

Yeah like i said they probably get the nod on things like that - but they aren't getting minute by minute updates of contract negotiations or demands ffs

Edit : i mean one minute these guys are saying it's happening then in their next post it's not - why anyone is hanging on their word is beyond me

And we’ve taken out loans to cover that shortfall.

Look, if we pulled off Conte, I was totally happy to say I was wrong, we are showing ambition, and ENIC do have the intention to win. We may have to be smarter about it, but I would have appreciated the cleverness of an opportunistic grab of a world class manager.

We’ll go from Poch, to Jose, to Mason, from 3rd to 7th, from Champions League to Conference League, all to end up with, at best, Ten Hag. Who is at best a less experienced Poch. And people have confidence in the decisions that are being made? Kane would leave, and this episode shows why. We aren’t serious about winning.

I think it’s pretty clear they were happy with ‘CONTE FRONT RUNNER FOR SPURS JOB’ being plastered everywhere. Why would that be? Why not just get it done? Why not dampen things a bit? Why not do things more privately? Why not say we are talking to a number of people and conducting a thorough process.

I honestly think we have been played. It’s a playbook they have used before, and now more and more people are wising up to it. Maybe you’ll say it’s the fans fault for buying into the hype, but they will have known exactly how the fans would react to those stories.

I’ll try and be sympathetic to the clubs’ side here. Maybe they were surprised at the response? Maybe they didn’t think the fans would get into such a frenzy? Maybe they thought after a 2 month manager search and sacking a guy a week before a cup final that the fan base will be totally fine with the slow patient process even though other clubs have started signing players and we haven’t even got a manager? Nope, sorry, just can’t do it.

Do people think the Dybala thing was the same? Loads of ambition, tried to get a big player, just got unlucky? Those pesky image rights?

I’m specifically talking about their use of the media here, not the merits of going for Conte or ETH or anyone else (although I think to end up with ETH in 7th after having Poch means the last 2 years were a complete waste). I think they are well aware of the power of the media to shape the narrative that they are being ambitious for the club without actually following through. And who knows…maybe it has its benefits in helping us pick up new fans, maybe it helped get us in to those ESL discussions, but it absolutely takes the fans for a ride. And I think the players at the club know exactly what is going on.

"Look, if we pulled off Conte" might have got the deal through the door :p

Loans have been taken out to cover the shortfall, but they still have to be paid back. There is still a pandemic going on, we don't know how long it will last and if new variations etc will cause issues. The club cannot make guarantees against that background with regards budgets, no club can if they are being honest and we know Levy is risk adverse, which can be a pro or a con. If Conte can't see that it is his issue and he is not the right fit for us.

Poch to Jose to Mason... Using Mason is really clutching at straws. 7 years ago it would've been Redknapp to AVB to Sherwood to Poch from CL to EL. Poch would've been at best, well lets be honest, a practical nobody.

If Kane leaves it won't be the first great player we've lost, from Hoddle through to Bale and we've survived. Yes it'll be a blow to lose Kane if we do, but he's probably 3-4 years left right at the top and the money got can be reinvested. The team may come out ahead with that investment

We've had Nagelsmann, ETH, Conte & Poch all from the same inside info sources right? If we're to believe the club has been briefing the 3 each step of the way then i don't see what positives they expect to come if it's true we're scrambling around lurching from one name to another rather than just speaking to them during an interview process of sorts?

If we're doing the above to only end up in Southgate/Martinez territory in 6 weeks time then the only conceivable conclusion to draw would be that the club could not match the ambition of the top end managerial candidates - which is a bit different to transfer targets not crossing the line because of xy or z. I don't think the club would leak we're speaking to that level of manager if they don't fully intend to be appointing someone of that standing as no one would buy it

LEVY INTENDS TO UNCHARACTERISTICALLY SMASH TOTTENHAM’S (AND THE UK’S!!) TRANSFER RECORD FOR ONE OF THE WORLD’S BEST YOUNG STRIKERS JUST BEFORE DEADLINE DAY

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.da...enham-make-38-5million-bid-Sergio-Aguero.html

LEVY WAS ALSO GENUINELY SERIOUS ABOUT SIGNING ROSSI AND WAS ABSOLUTELY NOT JUST HAPPY TO BE USED AS A PAWN BY HIS AGENTS TO GET HIM A NEW CONTRACT AT VILLAREAL RATHER THAN BREAK THE TRANSFER RECORD FOR HIM TOO.

Aguero joined City a few months later, oh such a shock he turned us down

I don’t think it looked like we had been lurching until this last week. ETH and Potter were perfectly viable candidates we would want to interview against each other. Maybe trade off Potter’s PL experience versus ETH having gone deeper in Europe, and then make a call. That’s fine.

The appearance of lurching has only now come this week, and is of the club’s own doing.

We made a totally serious bid for him before though right? We had CL ambitions too? He wasn’t paid that much at the time…we totally had the money, why not get it done?

We had decided on ETH or Potter and then Conte and Poch had become possible candidates, what would you have done?
Personally, if Levy hadn't have explored those options I would've been tinkled.
