aha!!
thats entirely diferent
if we are comparing shots outside the box to goals scored from outside the box we would be geting much closer. add something like shots outside the box AND shots on target from outside the box...AND goals...even better
but even then i'm sure someone would say something like "but attacking mids take more to their percentages are a better reflection of their abilities than someone that takes much fewer shots"
sometimes with these things you can win. it depends on how determined the other guy is
Then the stats are wrong
Look at the bottom right of the page - what does the "36% + 0%" indicate - edge of the box or inside the box?

That's been my stand the whole way through this mate, that he takes a lot of shots and misses a lot. I'm not bothered about comparing him to anyone else, just that he isn't this great scorer of goals.
LIAR! You said he is not a great shooter! Sorry to be pedantic but today I have time and I feel like arguing my side!
There's a 13% in the box on Huddlestone's page indicating he's scored inside the box. Albeit once.
The 0% is obviously goals in and around the penalty spot.

*These are the players mentioned earlier in the debate - these are not the same player in 'position' per se
Hudd - 8 goals / 125 games (1 in 15.6 games) - 100% from outside the box = 8/8 (total goals) goals from range - 1 in 1 goals
Hudd - 8 goals / 227 shots (1 in 28.3 shots) - 1.8 shots per game. 8% of 'on target' shots led to goal

Young - 48 goals / 458 shots (1 in 9.54 shots) - 2.82 shots per game. 18% of on 'target' shots led to goal
Scholes - 108 goals / 468 appearances (1 in 4.3 games) - 22% from range - 24/108 (total goals) from range - 1 in 4.5 goals
Shcoles - 108 goals / 528 shots (1 in 4.9 shots) - 1.12 shots per game. 21% of 'on target' shots led to goal
Gerrard - 97 goals / 404 appearances (1 in 4.1 games) - 27% goals from range - 26/97 (total goals) from range - 1 in 3.7 goals
Gerrard - 97 goals / 979 shots (1 in 10 shot) - 2.41 shots per game. 14% of 'on target' shots led to goal
Lampard - 173 goals / 525 appearances (1 in 3 games) - 24% goals from range - 42/173 (total goals) from range - 1 in 4.1 goals
Lamapard - 173 goals / 1198 shots (1 in 6.9 shots) - 2.29 shots per game. 16% of 'on target' shots led to goal
What is the on target percentage?
I am massively sceptical of these stats. We already proved they were wrong so cannot be reliable data for our argument. Also as Africanspurs said, there are so many variables to consider.
Triffic effort though.

Steffen Freund. All. Day.Wow, fair play for the effort mate! Those stats do look a bit iffy though, surely that Scholes shots per game must be higher? Even if they are I think the long range shots per goals still match up. Plus it's difficult to compare these different player positions; I guess you'd need to compare him with the likes of Tommy Hitzlsperger or Gary McAllister to see where he sits.
Out of interest, consider the following scenario: one of our wingers crosses into the box and a defender half clears. The ball is slowly rolling out to the D of the penalty area. Who would you like to see coming onto that and hitting it first time?
