Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

I know i've seen posts you've done on this in other threads, but for simplicity of the flow of this thread - and for others to agree, comment agin etc - could you recount here a list of the differences you have noticed.

Cheers

He's faster this year.

That's what you get with less wind resistance having your ears pinned back.

Re: Gareth Bale

I think a player can fall over without it being either a foul or cheating. Trying to avoid a tackle can cause that, but he should be careful about getting to theatrical.

Perfectly summarised Jordinho. Cheating is when you appeal for a foul that never was.

Re: Gareth Bale

He will end up in Spain.

As for his performances/abilities, I have said (to some criticism I might add) for a while that he is learning a lot under AVB who is coaching him to be that world class player. There is a fascinating interview with Torres today which basically outlines what AVB does with the star men who have previously been left to do what their talents tell them regardless of team shape or structure. It's very informative. I have already noticed the difference in Bale's game this season despite being repeatedly told it wasn't happening and that he is, in fact, playing the same as last year.

Torres: I'm a better player at Chelsea

Fernando Torres has revealed he still holds a place in his heart for Liverpool, describing it as the "city of football".

Torres, 28, spent three-and-a-half seasons on Merseyside before departing for Chelsea for a British transfer record £50m. In an interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais the striker opened up about his feelings for the club, and claiming the truth about his exit will come out one day.

He also spoke about his feelings over Hillsborough, and the close bond he still feels towards the people of Liverpool over their battle for justice. "When I heard about Hillsborough, I got very emotional, as I know a lot of people who lived it, who I saw cry... Through that, I lived it," he said.

"Those are the things you are left with having played for Liverpool, the emotion. I decided to go because I had to take a forward step. It wasn't the best way to go, but it also hasn't been like it has been presented. One day the truth will come out.

"Sporting-wise, I wasn't doing much there. They needed a new project. That's what we talk about, of the beliefs. My son is from Liverpool and he started kicking the ball before he made his first birthday. He was born in the city of football."

Since his move to Stamford Bridge in 2011 Torres has regularly come in for criticism for his scoring rate, having netted just 11 times in 53 appearances, but he is unconcerned, saying he has learned to switch off.

"I learned that it couldn't affect me, to not put myself into it and not to listen," he said. "You have to look at yourself and know that you are the only one who can say you're not performing and the only one that can do anything about it is you."

Because of his drop in goalscoring form there is a feeling that Torres has become a worse player since leaving Liverpool, but he argues that he has improved his all-round game and is better positioned to serve the team now.

"I was a different player to serve the team," he added. "I sacrificed myself but it was the only way to play. At times I thought, 'I will run on the shoulder, or offer the space'. And, by 70 minutes, I wouldn't have touched the ball. If I played in my position I wasn't in the game. What could I do?! It was so different to what I was used to with [Rafa] Benitez that I wasn't comfortable, it was obvious! When we changed coaches, it was something I was more familiar with.

"One positive is that it has made me a better player. Now, I dominate aspects of the game that I couldn't before and you can be the player the coach wants and that you hope to be. I spoke a lot with Steve Holland, the assistant, and we worked on this. In the end, it's the players who give style to the team."

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres admits he 'didn't care about winning or losing' last season

Fernando Torres has revealed the full depth of his despair at Chelsea last season, admitting that it reached the stage where he and other team-mates no longer cared whether the club won or lost.

In a remarkable interview with the Spanish newspaper, El País, Torres claims that he then rediscovered himself and returned to a role under Roberto Di Matteo that was more similar to how he played during his successful spell at Liverpool.

“Halfway through last season, I distanced myself from the values I had grown up with,” said Torres. “I had team-mates who didn’t care if the team won or lost because they were not playing. I never wanted to be like that.

“[But] one day I discovered that I was like them, that it didn’t matter if we won or lost if I was not playing. I wasn’t part of the group.”

Torres said that he was particularly helped in improving his outlook by Paulo Ferreira, a team-mate who has spent much of the past four seasons in and out of the team.

“I discovered that I was not happy because I had stopped being what I had always wanted to be,” said Torres. “In the dressing room, you can never lose that group concept. But I learnt to look at myself and to realise that the only person that can change is you.

“I became more mature, I came to know myself better and became conscious of the fact that it depends on me. I learnt to be more self-critical, to understand everyone better and to accept the situation.

“I learnt that if we won it didn’t matter that I hadn’t played. When I retire the only thing that concerns me is that no one can say that I was a bad team-mate or disrespectful or self-important.”

Asked if he was still glad that he moved to England in 2007, Torres said: “Definitely. Not just because of the professional experience but the personal one too.

“I owe Liverpool a huge amount. Liverpool is a fundamental part of my life. They don’t remember me that way, but time will change that.

“I could not have chosen a better place to go. The other day when the news broke about Hillsborough, I felt emotional.

“I have experienced that, I know what the people have been through, I have seen them cry. I’ve lived that, I made it mine. My son is a Liverpool fan.”

Absolutely.

I think, in a nutshell...

a) His off the ball running is far, far more effective for the team. It's not just about him trying to always get the ball, he's now moving to create space with a greater frequency.

b) His positional switching is also much smarter and much more disciplined. he doesn't go wandering all over the place when a game is tight trying to win the match by himself, he serves the team and the ethos knowing that his time will come. Early on you could see he was finding it tough, but recent games have proven to him that it is working better for everyone.

c) I have noticed a significant improvement on his right-hand side performances, further, his willingness to use his right foot more as opposed to always checkin back to his favored left.

I think he is learning the full benefit of working for the team and not always feeling he has to make it all happen by himself. I believe AVB wants a system where the ethos and shape rule, where hopefully world class talent is executing it, but if (say) Bale is injured, we can slot someone in who will be able to at least achieve a similar pattern of play. I felt in the past that it was all down to Bale, and I think last season there were times when Bale genuinely felt that unless he tried to Roy of The Rovers it every match, we would lose!

The holy trinity: Redknapp ranks Bale up there with Messi and Ronaldo

Harry takes time out from his job search to sing praises of 'unplayable' Tottenham winger, who could 'walk into any team on the planet' etc

Harry Redknapp may find himself 'between jobs' at the moment, but the former Tottenham boss always knew how to talk up a player, and he's been keeping his old skills finely honed, with an astonishing hymn to to the wonders of Gareth Bale.

"He's an amazing, amazing talent and he's after the Ronaldos and Messis of this world and he's getting better and better," Redknapp said, ahead of Wales's qualifier against Croatia. "He's almost unplayable when he's on his game. He is a genuine world-class player.

"There's nobody he couldn't play for. He'd improve any team.

"He is already at the top but any team in the world would love to have Gareth Bale playing for them.

"He can do everything and could play anywhere. He's the full package," Redknapp added. "He can head it, he can dribble, he can shoot, he's got a great physique.

He's an amazing athlete, he can score with both feet - there are no weaknesses in his game. It was amazing how he turned the game around [for Wales against Scotland].

"With 10 minutes to go you're looking for somebody who can do something special and Gareth can do something special.

"He is a great lad as well with a good family behind him. It couldn't happen to a nicer lad."

So if there's any club chairmen watching... when you get Redknapp, you get THAT level of commitment to hyping up a player and his market value. Remember he got Rio Ferdinand sold for £18m in 2000!

most likely in his late 20's. He always says he'd like to play abroad, but as long as the Premier League is competitive and money is swirling around, he will remain in England imo. Whenever Emirates Marketing Project want him and he feels its time to move i think he'll end up there

Re: Gareth Bale

In a long winded piece of crap from BBC, these are the quotes:

Modric said: "I agree he should play for Real Madrid and I hope he'll come."

"It would be amazing and I think he can [play for Real Madrid]," Modric told BBC Radio Wales.

"He's a good enough player."

Re: Gareth Bale

Bale is far from the finished article. He has been criticised for his performances here. I think we will get this year and at least next year out of him. If we are winning stuff my dream is he can be our Maldini. If not he will be up the road.

Which road?
