Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

That's not Levy's way of operating - he'd wouldn't blow a pile of cash without having it in the bank already

Lewis is pulling the strings. He has finally seen where his investment could go with a little prompting, not too much but just enough...

Re: Gareth Bale

Because its been Spurs/Levy's MO in the past to say NOT FOR SALE and then sell when they get there price. The media are judging this on the experience and not the reality of here and now.

Because Carrick and Berbatov had 2 years left on their contracts so the 'not for sale' stance was probably a negotiating tactic.

Modric on the other hand had 5 years left and tried to force through a move, but we didn't let it happen straight away, we let him go after a year.

Bale's situation more closely mirrors Modric than Berbatov, except that he hasn't kicked up a fuss in trying to get the move. And yet the media still seem to think its a cast iron certainty and we just need to work out our differences over price, rather than us actually meaning what we say. Which is surprising considering we showed t to be true with Modric.

Re: Gareth Bale

I thought AVB was gettting a £50m warchest to spend

http://metro.co.uk/2013/06/19/spurs...-transfer-funds-after-he-snubbed-psg-3847348/

I know that one is Metro (not the most reliable),but I'm sure I saw it elsewhere to. Caulker sale effectively pays for Capoue
Soldado/Pauinho/Chadli was £49m, so I dont see why we have to be selling Bale to finance our recent signings.

Surely we will clearlng a few more off the books so I imagine they finance possibly 2 more signings (back-up striker/new CB?)

Re: Gareth Bale

So what is going to happen if he doesnt play again today, has been having 1-1 fitness sessions, Id be annoyed if he wasnt involved next sunday

Re: Gareth Bale

The main reason it could be true is because AVB channelled so much of our attacking play through Bale last season that he would've seen more of the ball than most? I mean, Xavi has Messi and Messi has Xavi, so there's no real need to pick one main creative spring there (especially when you add Iniesta, etc, etc)...weird stat to see though I agree.

That did not happen. Bale was simply more effective than his peers when he had the ball. But all the attacking players saw the ball as much as Bale.

Mate the Metro made a big song and dance about Carlton Cole scoring 2 for us the other day, he didnt even play...

Media will go back into full-on 'Bale is off' mode for the next few days. Next Sunday probably is a big tell. Right now I'm still very confident he stays. If he plays for Wales on Weds, but not v Palace, my confidence will start to recede

Re: Gareth Bale

If he goes and we sign Lamela and Willian, while getting in Coentrao ... Change for the stadium ... See ya Gareth, thanks for the service.

He won't refuse to play for us once the transfer window slams shut. He may not play in a Spurs shirt before then though. And to make this clear to those trying to make excuses for him, that would be HIS decision no one else's.

Thats gonads though, it means were without our best player for 2 league games, deja vu !!!!

One day we will actually start from the 1st game not the 3rd

This is probably true, but when you have a Messi, Ronaldo or a Bale you tend to try and get them on the ball as much as possible, and the opponents do their best to stop it happening.

They were able to stop it often, which is why having more threats should improve our ability to break teams down.

The good news is unlike previous seasons where this has happened, I think we have a better squad and more importantly we should be more than capable of beating Palace and Swansea without him with the players we have. We really do need him back for the Arsenal game though.

Re: Gareth Bale

Naturally, the businessmen will be tempted to sell around £100m. Who wouldn't be. If Real cough up £90m+ we'll probably sell. Something like £94m might be a compromise.

Its a great position to be in. That is a huge amount of cash. If we can bring in one big name to replace Bale this window, then it won't be as cataclysmic as some feared.

On the other hand, Real balk at the £90m + figure, we keep Bale for another season, where I think he could excel again - with AVB behind him - and the asset will still be there. No one can predict if Real or another club would pay more, the same or less for Bale a year from now.

I hope we keep him. His stock will only rise imo. Like Modric and Berbs, when players feel they could be playing for an elite club, they have a confidence and swagger in our team. I don't think we can underestimate the role AVB has in Bales meteoric rise, AVB has helped him achieve this, and he can help take Bale forward another step.

Re: Gareth Bale

In fact, Levy must hold out for £100m. Not a penny less. Bale is too good, too important to us :) Emotion has the better of me! It was the reference to the arse game that did it - the thought of Bale firing in a screamer to win us the game.

What we don't really know is how much Bale is agitating for a move. From the comments made by that director fella it seems Bale is, but we don't know if he's staunch - let me leave I do not want to be here. Or his agent is keen for the move, and Bale will be happy to stay or go. The difference is we can stick to our figure knowing that if Real don't bite, we keep a happy Bale. Whereas if his heart is set on a move, we are more likely to reach a compromise deal.

I hope he doesn't play today. Too much pressure. And any reaction to the crowd - a clap to applaud the fans, the heart gesture with a sad look etc - will be taken as a goodbye. Hope he plays at Palace.

If Bale doesn't play today, don't think he will play against Palace. In fact, even if he stays, can't see Bale playing for us until the transfer window shuts. Don't think he will be in the right mood to play until his future is sorted.

Yes true. The smart thing to do would be to issue a deadline, publicly or privately to Bale, Perez and Bales agent. If no agreement is reached by Wednesday next week, the deal is off, we will not entertain any negotiations for transfer this window. Black and white.

Re: Gareth Bale

I think the reality is that Spurs are willing to sell at the right price and that whilst there has been stalemate for the last few days, Madrid are likely to up their present offer before the end of the window. I think it is likely Bale will leave between now and the end of this window in a cash plus player deal.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us make a big signing in the next week to 10 days, paving the way for Bale's departure.
