Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

FORMER Tottenham boss Juande Ramos has backed Gareth Bale to succeed at Real Madrid.

Ramos left Spurs, where he coached an 18-year-old Bale to the player's only silverwear at the club - the Carling Cup in 2008 - for Real Madrid, and so is uniquely placed to comment on how the Welsh winger would adjust to life in the Spanish capital.

Ramos is currently coaching Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in Ukraine but remembers his time coaching Bale fondly.

He told Marca: "He had bags of potential as an 18 year old. He played at left-back under me and covered the whole wing. He had an impressive physique and a great left foot. He has progressed a lot and played at the highest level."

And Ramos has no doubt that Bale will be a hit if he makes the move to join Real, downplaying the possibility that the 24-year-old could suffer culture shock.

He added: "He has the necessary quality to adapt at Real and won’t have any problems. A player of Bale’s talent would play well in any team. I’d say that adapting to a country like Spain that has good weather and outgoing people shouldn’t be a problem for him."

Ramos has now been in the coaching business for over 20 years, including stints at Sevilla and CSKA Moscow, but admits he is still sometimes taken aback at the transfer fees associated with top players nowadays.

Of the Bale transfer he said: "Talking about those figures is an insult, especially considering Spain’s current situation, but the market dictates the price."

Re: Gareth Bale

I predict that Juande Ramos will be a horrible failure with Tottenham Hotspur.....oh wait, that already happened?! My bad.

Re: Gareth Bale

Assists are the most overrated stat in the world.

I'm more confident of Bale staying today than I was last week, but I'm still not overly convinced he'll stay.

Me too. Since Perez said bale would cost too much 24-48 hours ago the volumes of articles about him leaving has dropped massively. Lets hope that continues and he stays

Re: Gareth Bale

Now now Juande.

Bitter much?

Didn't really say much wrong, he just answers the questions Marca asks. They obviously change it around before it's published to make it look like something completely different.

Still a few papers talking with a certainty and confidence that he is off though. Don't quite understand why.

Because its been Spurs/Levy's MO in the past to say NOT FOR SALE and then sell when they get there price. The media are judging this on the experience and not the reality of here and now.

OR

the media is determined to force this move through so some random poster doesn't get excited and bring down the internet by giffing midget man with gello hair on a 5 minute time loop to infinity & beyond.

Re: Gareth Bale

i dont believe that at all

The main reason it could be true is because AVB channelled so much of our attacking play through Bale last season that he would've seen more of the ball than most? I mean, Xavi has Messi and Messi has Xavi, so there's no real need to pick one main creative spring there (especially when you add Iniesta, etc, etc)...weird stat to see though I agree.

Re: Gareth Bale

Feeling like he's still going myself. We're spending so much money. Maybe him and Perez have agreed a price already but as a gentleman's agreement between the two it's not been made official until we've spent our money and not been overcharged. If he goes and we get someone like Willian we'll be awesome. If he stays, we'll be awesome. Not too bothered.

Between Lewis' loan and the reality that even if he stays this season, it's still at least 65 mill in the bank for next summer should we decide to sell (could be more, i'm just being a pessimist) i'm not sure a Bale sale this season factors...

I agree that the money we're spending is anything to do with Bale going.
But I cant see Bale still being here on the 3rd of September.
There's still a full month to go in this thing and Madrid will come knocking again and again. I see the whole thing culminating in Bale not turning up for the NLD the day before Transfer Deadline day and opinion completely turning against him.

That's not Levy's way of operating - he'd wouldn't blow a pile of cash without having it in the bank already

Leaving aside the fact all our transfers are likely to be staged payments, these are our transfers for the last 2 years.

Net spend £27.5 mill

I think we get an extra £25 mill TV money this season so the net spend in 2 years is £2.5 mill!!
And we will be selling more players so we will probably show a profit!
