Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

I am kind of coming round to the idea of Bale leaving - haven't Hulk and Willian both said they want to leave Russia?

We sell Bale and bring in those two plus say Lamela and Chirciches and we are laughing to be honest. Don't quite know how we would afford the wages but if we are offering Bale upwards of 160k, they can't be on much more than 130k, or surely wouldn't expect that from us. Someone like Torres at Chelsea is on 175k.

So, sell Bale and just get AVB's boys in and watch us tear it up. Even then the likes of Sig, Dempsey, Lennon, Defoe as proven quality PL back ups and Holtby, Paulinho, Dembele, Sandro etc the middle - fudge the other teams.

Re: Gareth Bale

I agree with that. But Spursalot is talking about using a contract as a means of requiring a player to stay at a club.

Ok, So we refuse to sell Bale for whatever reason. (theoretical)

What does he do to get out of this 'flimsy' contract?

Re: Gareth Bale

How much did Willian go for? And how much will Anzhi expect now? I expect Hulk and Willian will be well out of our reach, even if Bale goes, because I can imagine both of their clubs would be asking for 40 million or such sums.

Re: Gareth Bale

Can't get out of the contract. Can hand in a transfer request (which reportedly he is unwilling to do as it could affect his rel;ationship with Spurs fans) or refuse to play. In other countries there are buy out clauses that players themselves can trigger by paying off the remainder. I forget the player, but there was someone who did it to immediately get a signing bonus off his new team. Don't think there are such clauses in Britain however

Re: Gareth Bale

Tottenham Hotspur chairman, Daniel Levy, could pocket a whopping £1 million bonus if he agrees to Gareth Bale’s record-breaking move to Real Madrid.

Bale is currently at the centre of a tug-of-war between Spurs and Real, with the Spanish giants offering £87m to land the Welsh wizard.

But Spurs are holding out for £100m – and if the Spaniards meet the asking price demanded by Levy, then the 51-year-old White Hart Lane supremo will be in line for a share of the spoils at the end of the financial year.

“Like all people who work in senior positions, Levy’s pay will include a generous bonus, which is triggered if he hits certain targets,” commented respected football business consultant, Mark Ashton.

“If he were to get the £100m asking price for Bale, I would think Levy would be in line to get at least a million added to his salary when everything is totted up.”

Although there’s no suggestion that a £1m bonus would influence his decision to sell Bale, the bonus could take Levy’s overall pay for the current season rocketing towards £4m.

In 2012, he trousered £2.2m – a £400,000 increase on his overall remuneration in 2011.

As well as his pay, Levy and his family also own more than 29% of ENIC, the company controlled by the ultimate owner of Spurs, 76-year-old Joe Lewis.

Added Ashton: “These guys take lots of risks and have to live with intense pressure every day of the week. It might seem a lot of money to most of us, but I have no doubts the likes of Levy really earn their corn.”

I read that Levy's wages when he first arrived at the club, were something in the region of £250,000 per annum. Now its nearer to £2m, half being paid in bonuses.

i dont think Spurs made such an offer, or even made any offer...Levy will not break that wage structure imo, and one of the reasons we are are signing Soldado is because he is coming in on 60-70k a week which is amazing business considering his experience and ability.

so completely forget about Hulk unless he takes a massive massive wage cut....Willian im not sure about. He really seems to want to play in the PL, is one of AVB's text buddies, and i think he might take a wage cut just to come over. big big might though

i think its more likely we will pay a big fee for a Lamela or Griezmann for example, and give them wages which are triple what they are currently earning but still within our structure

Re: Gareth Bale

well Gareth was meant to be staying another season until Real started the campaign to take him from us, so who knows, maybe a few sweet words from Baldini, a big offer for Roma, and a contract for Lamela which is 3 times what he is earning and he too might have a change of heart;)

I like your thinking and whilst we're doing all that , Spurs should get its own Marca :)

Re: Gareth Bale

And yes, we staved it off for a year, but he still went. Against this, I give you Carrick, Berbs, Keano, Cole, RVP, Nasri, Fabragas, Ronaldo... And even Soldado. The list goes on and on.

Gerrard. It can be done.

BBC: Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti says the club are in talks to sign Tottenham star Gareth Bale.

“It is difficult to talk about Bale because he is not a Real Madrid player at present”
Carlo Ancelotti

Ancelotti's comments follow reports that Real are preparing a bid in excess of the world record £80m fee they paid for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.
Ancelotti told a news conference at Real's training camp in Los Angeles: "I believe the club is in talks to find a solution and we will see what happens."
Bale's camp told Spurs at the weekend that he wants to speak to Madrid.
However, it is believed no formal bid has yet been submitted by Real.
Bale, 24, reported to Tottenham's training ground on Wednesday, undergoing treatment on the leg injury which forced him to miss their last two pre-season matches.
Ancelotti, who took charge at the Bernabeu earlier this summer after leaving Paris St-Germain, was asked about the possibility of adding the Wales international to his squad this summer.

"It is difficult to talk about Bale because he is not a Real Madrid player at present," he added.
"I have never spoken to him. I do not usually talk to players who are not from my team and it would not be fair to do so."

Ex-Chelsea boss Ancelotti said former Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric would not be returning to White Hart Lane as part of any deal for Bale.
"It is not true that Modric is going," said the Italian. "He is a very important player for us and he will be here this season."

Those two quotes concern me, in that it implies WE need to do some chasing to see a deal done. This is Madrid's call but they have to do the running.

If they haven't made an offer them there is no business to be done.

I think the wage structure as we've known it in the last few years has been blown to bits to be honest. I think Lewis and Levy have realised if they have any ambitions of making us a top club then the landscape has changed, and they have to risk a bit more.

I don't think we'd have a squad full of 100k plus players, but to maintain our progress I think they'd do it for a special player or two. If Bale leaves, it will be key to maintain our progress and not let us step back at all, and if we were going to pay big money to encourage him to stay (which I think we will have done) then we should do it for his replacements.

Re: Gareth Bale

..and the already mentioned LeTiss, Giggs and Raul. But they are way too far and few between.

Gerrard won the champions league, FA Cup, Worthington Cup?? UEFA Cup so no need to move. Bale has won nothing at spurs and probably would never in his entire spurs career if he stayed. At Real he WILL win something. Plus Liverpool were fighting for the league and constantly in the champions league which we have not been. So I think its completely different.

Giggs pretty much the same too. He was at Man Utd the biggest english team at the time.

blown to bits??? i dont think so. Definitely the level has been raised, but i doubt anyone is earning more that 80k a week with Bale and Ade being the ones on around 80k (iirc Emirates Marketing Project are funding the rest of Ade's salary)

i dont see us buying a player for over 30 mill and paying him over 100k a week.....not yet

Could very well mean that a Bale transfer is imminent, and they are trying to save some face after acting like utter bricks. "Not be fair to do so"..? Is that not what your filthy club and your media sock puppet have been doing for the last fortnight?

"He is a very important player for us and blah blah...". Well Bale is of no importance to us, so here you are.

What an utter tosser.

Yes it's different, and I agree with you. The point however was players staying past their prime despite being that highly valued in their prime. I'm not even sure if any serious offers were made for Giggs in his prime.

Re: Gareth Bale

120m

Bite their hand off....serious...now

No deal.

We say to Bale, get your head down and work and we'll accept, say £80m, next summer. Write it down.

That's two years earlier than your contract for you, gives us a chance to properly scout and identify your replacement without it being so short notice and us being so cash-rich that all the prices go up 20%, and in the meantime here's a little pay rise for the 'aggro' of playing for little old us.

oh, and btw - here's the letter from Madrid that said they wouldn't come in for you this year.

now go and get 40 goals.

everyones' kinda happy.

Berbs yes, good example. Of when he was agitating for a move and we didn't sell him. We refused to sell him and he played for us for another year before we sold him to United.

There is nothing Bale could do if we flat out refused to sell him.
