European Super League - Dead on arrival

Sure, I have no problem with Levy in how he handles fan engagement typically. He definitely pays a lot of lip service to THST.

If you don't think any representation will stop any of this in the long run, fine. But in that case we may all just give up and go home, and accept fans really don't deserve a say on anything when it comes to the future of the game, up against unfettered capitalism and the desire for 'progress' and money. Personally I think if someone had a seat on the board, and used their profile in the press when big decisions looked like they weren't getting a fair hearing from the fans perspective, I think it would make a difference.

When did fans have much of a say in the professional clubs/competitions/league set up etc?

For all the noise about the ESL being finished, it will be revisited again soon, it got leaked and they all panicked.

How many times have ours and Arsenals ticket prices been reported on by the press? Has that had any impact?

The board would not discuss something like the ESL in front of the fans' rep, it would be dealt with outside of the board meetings. They are not going to discuss anything that is commercially sensitive in front of someone who will blab about it on Twitter.

If I was board secretary and there was a fan rep, I would set up a new decision making meeting with a dull title and then fill board meetings up with discussions on long term strategy, plans for developing the training ground and how to grow our fanbase in the far east.

I feel like you've been arguing in other threads that you want more on the pitch from Spurs, that only happens with more money.

Exactly the fact that most supporters don't see the disconnect between the following thoughts

- buy Dias, Fernandes, Dybala, etc. If we don't, Levy is a skint basterd
- I want cheap tickets, cheap food and low price merchandise

Thats 100 percent what will happen.

No proper board would talk about anything important in front of them.

Apparently Levy is looking to recruit from this forum. Nominate Gutterboy

There’s quite a few candidates on here who know how to run a football club it seems. Would have had the new training complex finished, state of the art stadium done and on budget, won a league or two and more importantly backed Poch!

Football Chairman? Completed it mate!

There's a bit more nuance to it than that. There are quite a few of us who are happy enough with the amount spent just unhappy with how it has been spent who it has been spent on and specifically the timing of transfer completions.

Liverpool follow pretty much the same model we do but FSG have delivered it to a more consistently higher standard and in half the time of ownership.

like Chelsea, we're following suit with 'fan representation' on the board.

Incredibly smart move by the football clubs. Looking to be seen doing something to avoid any regulation or actual push "look guv, we listened and now we have fans on the board".

If anyone here thinks this will change things, boy are you in for a surprise.

It's absolutely pure optics. nothing more.

yep! but fans are not bright

I'm sorry, but that's a ridiculous distortion of the points I have been trying to make.

It is perfectly reasonable to argue that I would like owners that would be willing to invest more of their own money now we have the stadium, if such an owner can be found. It is also perfectly reasonable to argue the merits of fan representation, and make the point that we have a right to have our voice heard. It's perfectly fair to ask the question as to what point does progress and money mean less to the people on this board than the nature of the sport they spend so much time watching?

It seems like most people want to argue that nothing should change, everything has been going fine, and there aren't actually huge structural changes taking place in the world, where the people who can benefit from those changes are the ones that can win the hearts and minds of the followers involved.

Why a bunch of fans, on a fans forum, want to insist that fan representation is pointless is beyond me. We have just seen a very public, very funny, major misstep from a group of powerful people that thought their way of seeing the world was how it was going to be. They made a huge move, and it blew up quickly in their faces. It is perfectly reasonable to suggest that greater fan representation in these clubs so their points are considered earlier, might mean that something like this doesn't happen in the future. I'm not saying it will stop everything, but maybe the roll out is better. Maybe the announcement is more considered. Maybe more compromises are built in. Maybe the overall game benefits.

These things are complicated and nuanced. I really don't see why everything has to come back to the infallibility and genius of our owners, given that a couple of weeks ago there was a very obvious rooster up that they are now scrabbling to rectify.

I think that they had a very clear say on the tanking of the ESL. Now that is looking likely to be somewhat more formalised with these announcements.

If we want to assume fan backlash didn't play a part, fine. But I think that's wilful ignorance. Why did City and Chelsea bother signing up in the first place? You have to accept fan pressure played a part if only for the fact that it united the entire UK Parliament against the idea, and emboldened the Prime Minister to say he would pass legislation to stop it. Fan pressure led to a political open goal which all sides gladly aimed at.

Ticket prices leaks will have no impact if people keep buying them.

Your golden rule is how to be a victim, did West Ham help us when our players were fudging food poisoned with our big shot at CL (game had zero impact on them), no they still laugh at it, did anyone else in the league back us when Chelsea won CL and we were 4th? did anyone in league/FA help us with our stadium planning. If you want to be happy being irrelevant = that's the route.
Actually West Ham offered to play the game a day or two later, even though they had the FA Cup final a week later.
Also the FA helped us with our stadium by allowing us to rent Wembley (including getting Brent council to change the terms of operation).

not everybody has to be an “I’m alright Jack” such as yourself mate.

Thank you, people don't get being part of a board is a responsibility and part of that responsibility is in direct conflict with a fans view

- Tottenham's mission is to get the most money as possible out of supporters (customers) to enable the club to progress on the field.

What fan representation is going to agree with that? Even if they did, what other value will they bring, how is having a fan view help the business? (seems the best answer so far is to be able to shout "look out", club could pay a consultant for that)
Strange that you take this view. Bayern Munich’s board as one example take a very different view and keep their ST prices unrealistically low.

We're not.

I don't want my voice heard on running a football club, I have no idea how to run a football club, any idea I had would be ill informed and likely unworkable. Get me in the Liverpool or arsenal board room absolutely, I'm all for that.
I don’t want your voice heard either.... I do want our fans to have a voice however... :D

I want to see the club be successful, I'll take that at any cost.

I'm more likely to dip in and out of interest due to results than anything else.

It might help to add that I also support a team in a different sport on a different continent where I already have to work around middle of the night kick off times and have no chance of regular attendance, I don't consider myself any less a fan of that team than I do Spurs.
I’m assuming that you are a fan that doesn’t tend to go to many matches Baleforce?

Mate, you and every other supporter in the UK are in denial

- You stopped being the primary customer a long time ago, the regular seat buyer/season ticket holder is probably the least relevant "customer" now, overseas tv rights -> local tv -> commercials -> local supporter
- The more your club is successful, the more casual fans become the primary target
- Mentioned it a while back, Spurs could think of customers like -> supporter (ad hoc customer) -> physical subscribers (ticket buyer/season ticket holder) -> digital subscribers (cost less, less headache to manage)
- Spurs has 200+ supporters clubs worldwide with some estimates of 1-2M+ individuals plus casuals (non-figuratively billions), run a few scenarios -> I'll give an easy one, club sells games online for $5/pop, how many do you have to sell to match seats?

In 5-10 years from now it will be even worse, if you want to matter to your local club, the PL isn't the place to do it.
Hmmmm.... I think match day revenue still represents about a third of our turnover,

Strange that you take this view. Bayern Munich’s board as one example take a very different view and keep their ST prices unrealistically low.

they only do that because they can afford to and it puts financial pressure on rivals, its the same as Amazon undercutting ebook prices

@Raziel what's your background as a Spurs fan out of interest? I know you were US based but are you UK born amd that's where your support comes from or what? I'm finding it hard to rationalise your posts onthis subject tbh

I don't disagree with what you say wrt how the modern game is going and where the money is and of course i can understand why the club is going to chase whichever revenue is highest (STs vs TV vs Streaming etc) but that doesn't mean I'm going to accept/be happy with being marginalised as a match going supporter - because when all is said and done TV and foreign support is transient, local support will be here longer after they have moved on once the bubble has burst - clubs need to find the balance because i won't be happy seeing the club taken in a direction that we the match going support don't want it to.

If the club decided to upsticks and play in a version of the ESL based in a foreign counrty because that is where the money is and it would make the most financial sense then i get the impression based on what you have posted so far on this topic you'd welcome the move and argue it makes sense for the club to remain part of the elite and that the as the fanbase is global the club aren't doing anything wrong
