Eric Dier

He probably has been told.

If a suitable offer came in, i'm sure he'd leave. Otherwise he sits tight earns a fortune and signs a precontract with a foreign club in jan.

As you say, it's cut throat.
Him sticking around, not getting a squad number and not getting any appearances even from the bench probably lessen his options of getting a decent deal somewhere for next year. If we give him no squad place (please Levy) and he is sensible then he will take a loan.

That's called constructive dismissal in any other industry, and would tend to end in a legal case. What if your boss called you tomorrow and said your desk, computer and parking space had been taken away, but you could still work for another year?

The club gave him the contract, so has to honour it, unless both parties agree to another arrangement. He's a good pro and was a vital part of our mid-to-late 10s golden era.
The club merely have to honour paying his wage for the duration of the contract and provide training and medical facilities to the player. There is nothing contractual about the player getting a place in the 25 man first team squad

They do but in some cases from what I've heard from a few ex players in different podcasts moves can sometimes be heavily dictated by the selling club and there is very little choice in some cases
There is always the choice of turning the move down. The player just has to weigh up moving or staying and not being part of the first team squad…. A vast majority of players will then move. That is why it would be a mistake to do anything other than not give Dier a place in the 25 man squad.

If it is true that he has had multiple offers but wants to run down his contract and stay with no football then i have lost a lot of respect for the guy.
This is what makes me laugh with fans, we complain when people demand transfers and not honour contracts yet we are happy if we deem a player no longer good enough to force him out and lose respect if they want to honour their contracts. Dier has been loyal and while not the best player never caused issues and always gave 100% despite his limitations. If he wants to honour the remainder of his contract on the understanding any playtime will be limited then that’s his call and I support him either way if and when he does play.

It’s greed and no other reason for it, that i cannot respect.

Absolutely this. He signed a contract he was happy to honour. He shouldn’t be pushed out the door just because we’ve changed our minds. The lad sits for 6 months, makes himself available, trains and he can then pocket any “transfer fee”. Perfectly within his rights contractually and after everything he’s done for us, perfectly within his rights morally.

Think he could do a job as the inverted right back and fill in here and there. Not the best player we've ever had but one of the most loyal, never really heard him complain and seems to love Spurs.

What would he have to complain about?

4 months. Then sign a precontract on a free. Or the club are under pressure to cash in. All the while he is pocketing £100k a week.

Doubt anyone would have called Kane greedy had he waited until next summer to leave.

Kane would have almost certainly been first choice so not a like for like comparison. Dier is of course within his rights to do what he is doing. Although you’d have to question why he doesn’t want to go elsewhere and start games rather than being told he’s not in the plans and sitting on the bench? Especially at this point in his career.

If that is the case, I think it’s a safe assumption that any offers he’s had are not as good as what he’s currently got.

Is it "doesn't want to move"? Or "wants best possible move"?
