Emerson Royal

I see this a lot, I think its equally possible that Conte's system with this squad values a safety on the pitch with pace and stamina and he's willing to give up some creativity for that.

In that case, play a system that doesn’t rely on wing backs for creativity. It’s glaringly obvious they are instructed to get forward rather than sitting back and being safety first. We could get almost the same stability defensively with Doc but get more going forward.

Its amazing the amount of people that come on here what announcing what Conte likes his wingbacks to be, and how they should play. Yet Conte picks Royal every single time, despite not being one of these swashbuckling wingbacks that Conte apparently demands and despite us having at least two more attacking wingbacks plus Moura who he has also played there at his disposal.

Now why would one of the top coaches in Europe consistently play a player at wingback who according to the experts on here is no good as a wingback? I can't really imagine Conte accepting week after week Royal not doing the role as Conte demands, but of course the masses on here dont enjoy him there - so it must just be he has a blindspot for Royal, and Royal is in fact useless there right? Lets not forget that coaches see the game in a very different way to how armchair fans do...

So if a player is playing poorly we should just accept it and not question the manager? No manager is infallible, they do get things wrong, even the top managers in the game.

we're third in the league, we have two of the best forwards in the history of the game who have been largely crap this season

the system is working, once they start firing, we are golden

ha, ok, I'm watching that entire game again and compiling a dossier of every defensive mistake Sess made

I stand by my original point, he's not perfect either, but gets effectively no criticism

If Sess started every single league game, even if he wasn’t playing well, then I dare say he would see more criticism coming his way. People look at the RWB and see a position that could be improved. Conte is at least trying different options at LWB.

I agree. We’d also be much, much better with a full back at RWB who can actually deliver good crosses and offer more than Royal does.

Youre missing the point I was making completely. Its great that you say he's playing poorly, but you are not privy to what Conte demands and expects from him in that role. I guarantee Conte doesnt think he is playing poorly, or he would not be the regular he is. It is not like we have no other options there. I have no issue with you not rating him as a WB, the point is Conte clearly does....

with you, Conte has had them both for the same number of games

No, to most people in world football Son would have more credit in the bank. I know you like to underplay the importance of the best players and big up the unfashionable ones but to go to such lengths is admirable :D

again, its an audience of one, Conte, the opinions of everyone outside of his coaching team are irrelevant

if anything, I overplay the importance of the best players, I expect our defensive players to keep a clean sheet, and the other two to do a goal

That’s all fine. But this is a football forum and we’re allowed to question why Conte would be happy with certain players if we have better options available. Just going by what we see with our own eyes and the patterns of play, he clearly wants the full backs to attack. I’m always struck by how far forward they are, quite often they are there for a tap in if the forwards miss the ball. So that would suggest he wants them to deliver in the final third in terms of creating chances and scoring the odd goal here and there and isn’t just content with them being solid defensively. Otherwise he’d play a different system or employ different tactics.

Son won the golden boot and was our player of the season. Conte said he was world class. By contes own words doherty was his first choice at rwb last season till he got injured.

exactly, our frustrations are not going to change his opinion

there is also the benefit of stealing the ball back high up the pitch, which we've done a few times recently

The ball was down our left
It was no where near him to win it
You probably need to look again
It was Sanchez with a daft foul and Perisic getting done twice that cost us
You are a very confusing person Bedfordspurs, you need to specify who and what you are talking about; I think you are talking about the first Leicester goal against Spurs in the 6-2 Spurs win, and meant to say that the ball was down our right?
Baleforce is talking about the second goal, where Sessegnon lost the flight of the ball and then allowed a cross to come in.

Like this:
No he was talking about the first goal
Yes I meant our right hand side… no where near to sess
Same as the third goal… that didn’t exist

I meant the goal where he got beaten in the air, and another opportunity we gave up, which didn't actually lead to a goal, but may have done so is still inexcusable
