Daniel Levy - Chairman

I do agree with you here. The stadium made absolute sense (although not going as over budget as it did and using up so much of the playing budget). The mistake was the total neglect of the playing squad during a period when we were fantastically placed to really challenge.

Maybe Levy will have learnt from that?.... His lack of getting Jose the centre back he wanted in the Summer or a striker in the January before that leaves me questioning whether he has however.

This is what i mean wrt people saying just a little more - we've spent well(lots) over the last couple of years yet still it isn't seen as enough as there's always a little bit more that could have been spent/done. We just needed that extra back up CF or 40m CB on top of the 3rd/4th highest spend in the league to really push on...

We need to be able to write off players like city and have £40m CBS resting in the reserves

I mean I believe we have invested every penny the club could in making the club better
Players have been brought, assets have been built
The assets are what will fund the players. That’s the model we have chosen as we don’t have a country funding us

yep, an endless argument, we spent 60m, should have been 70m, we spent 70m should have been 80m, that would have done it for sure...

All the talk of Poch as if he is some sort of messiah is ridiculous. He did great for us, but for the last 12 months he had checked out. He knew the circumstances around the stadium and whether he was not willing to wait for the new revenue to kick in or was just burnt out it was time for him to go.
I must've imagined reaching the CL final and qualifying for the CL via league position 12 games before he was sacked?.....

Redknapp got Redknapp out. Jose was not pliable, never has been and never will be. He had stated that the squad was the best in the league alongside City and Liverpool the season before Poch got sacked, nothing to do with agreeing with Levy.
It's how he tricked Levy into getting rid of Pochettino and giving him a £15m a season 3 and a half year contract.

It’s key isn’t it
It’s not hard building a squad if you have no restraints

For me, with the money they have spent, that they have won so little, suggests that Guardiola and Begiritstain have made an absolute horlicks of it, Al Mubarak should probably have fired them by now.

What’s scariest with that CL run was we only won 6 games in total
2 in the group
2 vs Dortmund
And 1 vs city and Ajax
I think we qualified form the groups with the lowest points in history

He wasn't my first choice, or even in my top 100, but I can understand the gamble on him even if I didn't agree with it. Anyway, the debate on the rights and wrongs of sacking Poch and hiring Jose have been done to death dozens of times over.

yeah, the only team ever to qualify from the group stage going into the last game in such an awful position too

I'm surprised EtH was getting so much love, how bad do you have to be blow that kind of lead against Spur-sy?

It is not as binary as spending more or less money. The bigger point is have we spent the money available in the best way we could have. By bringing in the 1st choice players that the manager identified. So instead of wasting money on Stambouli, bring in Schneiderlin, instead of spending on Sissoko sign Winjnaldum. Instead of blowing money on Jannsen bring in Martial. This is why many people are arguing for a DOF. Not because we want to fritter away the club’s money, but to maximise its value.

Last 12 months he had checked out? Must be easy then to get a team to the Champions League final. It's more a case that the squad had reached its limit.
More that the squad that hadn't had a single player added to it for 18 months and had played a HUGE amount of games that season also after most of the squad went all the way to the last game in the World Cup was absolutely physically and mentally spent.

Every player you quoted there for a comparison cost more and was also wanting more wages than we could afford at the time

I'd say the numbers show it is somewhat binary mate - and i would suggest that money being tighter than those above us is why we have ended up with the likes of Stambouli & Janssen instead if their pricier alternatives over the years...

I agree on wsnting a DoF, have been an advocate of that setup since it was first introduced

Really how do you know that? Schneiderlin wouldn’t have been in big wages at Soton likewise Winjnaldum at Saudi Sportswashing Machine.

yes, the 58m we spent on Janssen and the 26m we spent on Stambouli were not great deals...
