"Champions of 3rd place, we know what we are"

Tell me about it! There was one passage of play where their left back (Robertson?) went charging after the ball down the left wing, then across the penalty area and ended up giving away a foul all the way out in the right wing area. It did make for good viewing and got the crowd up. I was just thinking how far out of position he was!

Gerrard clearly having an influence as coach then.

- at the top end of any sport the differences between success and failure can be as little as a difference of .X% - and in a world of marginal gains where things that are seemingly insignificant are focussed on in ever increasing detail to eek out that extra bit of improvement

Agreed - AND precisely the same logic can be applied to corners. Small details can provide big dividends

Come on, I never said anything remotely close to that. Just don't see why we would dismiss Liverpool so easily. They've become hard to beat and score for fun. Apart from recent history there is no suggestion they should fade away. Also they only have United(a), Us(h) and Chelsea(a) left to play out of the top 6.

They have strengthened in a key defensive area with VVD.They have Lalana to replace Coutinho. If the spend the rest of the Coutinho money on a top keeper and key defensive areas, we could well see them not fade away this year.

Or, more optimistically, we could hope for the 'new players take time to gel' approach, which would benefit us.

You pointed to their successes as a means of saying they are currently "elite". I pointed out they are well passed, and offer Ranieri as an extension of that logic.

I said similar of Arsenal years ago, and was similarly shouted down, and how has that proven out?

Not that I assume Im right in this instance as well - just pointing out that a very similarly flawed team will likely have similarly unsuccessful results.

Its not dismissing them easily to point out they are a good team, with a great front line, and some very real problems, is it?

People are going on like I just wrote City off...

Its entertaining, thats for sure. I suspect some confuse that with "good football". Its amateur stuff.

You can genuinely think whatever you want, but your personal opinion is not facts! The fact is that Liverpool are ahead of us, so we must have just as many flaws.

The fact is they are a mighty 3 points ahead of us and some are bending over backwards to write off our chances.

The fact is also that they have some major issues. We have no such issues. There are perfectly valid reasons for our less than stellar performance, and, conveniently, we are just about over them as well.

Do you think they will spend more?

I don’t, I think their are very much about make money to spend money personally

What are those major issues? You mention it time and time again, but I am yet to see you saying what exactly those issues are supposed to be.

I know people on here have some weird, kinky irrational hatred of Liverpool but are we really incapable of admitting they are a decent side and are a very serious threat to our top 4 hopes?

You’re speaking to the wrong guy here mate. Always liked them TBH. But if you don’t see weaknesses in that performance then you aren’t watching closely. Has anyone denied they are a serious threat?

FWIW... aside from Emirates Marketing Project, we’re pretty much on par with our peers when it comes to beating teams which park the bus this season...

Points dropped (games played) against teams outside Big Six:

Emirates Marketing Project: 2pts (8) at home + 2pts (9) away = 4pts (17)
ManUre: 4pts (10) at home + 7pts (8) away = 11pts (18)
Chavski: 5pts (9) at home + 7pts (8) away = 12pts (17)
Dippers: 6pts (8) at home + 4pts (8) away = 10pts (16)
Spurs: 8pts (10) at home + 5pts (8) away = 13pts (18)
Goons: 0pts (7) at home + 15pts (9) away = 15pts (16)

Four of those points dropped at home were at the start of the season when we were still adjusting to Wembley. And of those, two were dropped in the last minutes to surprise-package Burnley who are currently 7th and had also taken three off champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Context!

Indeed, the only one of those results which really irks me is the points we dropped against those pesky Spammers!

Although they did win their home game against Chavski plus took a point from the Goons, so maybe Moyes can pinch a few more points off our London rivals in the away games too :D

Other than the Dele chance we were toothless. That was a typical Mourinho containment affair and it was a great example of the difference in resources.

We have Lamela back now which is a help!

Hopefully Kane can play the return leg (after missing our visit to Old Trafford) and add to his tally of goals against ManU (currently a bogey-side for him, as Kane has only scored 1 goal in 554 minutes over 7 games against them) to finally shut up all those ManUre fans who still think Lukaku is the better forward!

But not a person I would want as a manager of Spurs!

Oh hell no! I think if that ever happened I would just forget about football for a few years and come back once he has burned all his bridges and left.

I noticed Lukaku got another classic Lukaku goal last night. IE, number 3 of 3, a goal that had no bearing on the result at all...

All the united fans I know have now started to realise how limited Pookaku is
