@Baleforce you can make the argument: Ange has done a phenomenal job with the players he has available.

Sarr has stepped up under him. He wasn’t a seasoned midfielder beforehand. And without Bentancur we’ve done better than I expected.

Gray and Dragusin playing above their expertise and experience. Doing a great job as 3rd and 5th choice CBs.

Missing rotation up front, Solanke is playing well. Ange has managed with no Richarlison. Or Odobert.

Lots to be positive about with the squad players stepping up. And that has to be to Postecoglous credit. He’s got some fringe and tired players playing well. Even if this team faced up to pool fresh with full energy, we’re competing. That isn’t bad considering the valuations of this side. Only our forwards are elite.

I don’t think he has.

I think this is a squad that should be comfortably top 5.

I don’t get this fawning over Ange …. Surely the real pedigree manager’s that we all needed to be patient with were the previous two. They knew how to build a team of winners … I don’t get what and has done to deserve this sort of backing. I have never seen it before.

I’d agree with Conte. Even Mourinho to some degree. And I don’t think it’s any different this time. Postecoglou has a quarter of a century of experience. He knows what he is doing. But his work is being undermined by fans and the media.

Given time at a club like Brighton Postecoglou would have them punching above their weight. The same applies to us, if given time.

I'm with you there.
A good manager would understand that the league is so tight right now that it's important to gets points on the board right now.

My mistake, I thought he was playing.

Not as good as Spence, but you’d rotate him? Okay then.

Needs time.

To name 3. 😀
And what month is it? December?

How long has it taken, before that penny finally dropped? How far did he run Porro into the ground? He has played Reg just for a few mins, so how far did he run Udogie into the ground?

And yes, I would play Reg, because Reg is fecking LB if you hadn't noticed and Djed is RB.

Needs time? What the last 2 mins of games? Really help ful that.

His prior experience is not comparable with where he is now.

Must say that I didn’t notice this. Slot was considered one of the brightest, young managers in football when we went in for him. It is perfectly understandable why he wasn’t interested in damaging that reputation at Spurs.
He said he would have come, if Spurs paid what was due for snatching him up.

Because we didn't want to pay up, it showed we wasn't that serious.

Levy doing things on the cheap again. If we was serious, we would have paid up.

Wont pay 20 million to get Slot from his contract, but pay 20 million Veliz, then loan him out to crap Spanish teams.

This is exactly why we are in the trouble we are in.

I think it's mainly fatigue with managerial changes and a growing recognition that the problems at the club run far deeper than him.

Though, there's also a charisma and a sort of everyman charm to him that I think has gotten part of our fanbase in a tizzy. He's the sort of guy fans irrationally warm to - speaks well, good with quips, and has the sort of life story and ethos that makes fans think he embodies what they would be like as a coach. Was a nobody as a player, worked a 'normal' job in a bank, took up odd-jobs in footballing backwaters (Australia, Japan, Scotland), then got his big break with Spurs at 58 years old. And embodies the flaky, devil-may-care ethos of the club, come what may.

People like him and want him to succeed, whereas with guys like Nuno there was always a disconnect there. Last time we had that sort of fan backing for a coach was with Poch - though he was and is utter leagues ahead of Postecoglou in terms of talent, the principle was the same.

Yup.

I like the fella, I really want him to succeed and win things for us.

But, I have to recognise he just ain't good enough for us. But I would change the coaching staff first and get some recognised successful coaching staff for him.

And see if they can improve the players, because they right now they are regressing at an alarming rate. As Ange isn't the one coaching, this has to be on the coaches.

But that doesn't excuse for being devoid of a nuanced approach to games and player management.

I think there is another impact of having senior players. Steff mentioned Kimmich, whilst others have talked about impacts of Naybet, Davids etc in the past. The reality is that these players would be quite vocal in the inevitable team meeting and dressing room conversations that happen after these results. I have no doubt in my mind that Roy Keane would have been challenging Fergie if he felt that the tactical system was a root cause of the on pitch performances. Whilst senior pro's help implement systems, if they believe in them, they can also be the ones undermining the manager if they don't. Ultimately, I think it is now down to Munn to ask Ange how we can address the elephant in the room. We can't just pretend it is not there because of current injury, fatigue, age of squad etc. It was there in Ange's very first 10 games and it has been there the entires season regardless what 11 we put out on the pitch. It has been there even when the guys have had a week off and are fresh as a daisy. It just alters the magnitude of how much it is there.

There is no doubt in my mind that the constant overload down our right hand side that our opposition do to us is very damaging. It's not quite as bad on our left, but it is still a major problem. Any which way they come, we will always be 3 on 3, or 4 on 4, or 5 on 5 but we are never 4 or 5 on 3, or 5 or 6 on 4 etc. We also play mostly without an orthodox number 6.

I just find it a shame that Ange isn't smart enough to work towards his end game tactical strategy, rather than start there.

Edit: cleaned up my double dutch last sentence
