Ange made a significant comment this week, when he said essentially that we needed more experience in the squad and might adjust our signing profile.

I absolutely agree, whatever system, it will essentially be the same. Once we get players back, I expect us to push into the EL spots again this season but Cl has gone. We might win a trophy, we probably won't.

Agreed again.

I saw that mate. I feel like of all the things he's said and done here over the last two years, that one might have been the most dangerous.

Because it ignores that the club's objective is not to have the best squad - it is to keep the wages-to-revenue ratio the lowest in the league (by far), an objective it successfully achieved in 2023. And remember, that was the year with Conte, Kane, Ndombele and Lo Celso still on the books, and so on.

I have no doubt it dropped still further in 2024, as the accounts will show.

Either Postecoglou makes his peace with this strategy of cheap young players and players on low wages, or he faces up to the choice every predecessor of his has faced - walk away, or be sacked when on-pitch performance inevitably suffers because of it.

I think the argument of he needs time is a bit moot.
This is how we play. Hit or miss.

It might win us a cup but don't think can get us back to being cl regulars. Or better.

My opinion.
This is the thing. He doesn't "need time", because this is it. Picked up a morale boosting couple of results but still got a decimated squad and playing rampant top of the table?

Is your gameplan:
(A) sit deep, get in their faces where possible and don't allow the game to be played on their terms?
(B) That's just the way we play mate.

And for those that say we might have lost using plan A, yes, we may well have lost, but we probably wouldn't have had our pants pulled down in front of fans that have paid a huge whack just before Christmas....

We aren't going anywhere so if you are happy finishing around tenth, smashing someone one week, losing the next, then by all means, give him all the time you want to ......

From what I’ve seen of him in age group football his hold up play and work off the ball is nowhere near good enough yet. He is at least a season (and probably 2) away on loan to chanpionship or even div 1 away from being ready for a bit part in PL/Europa football.

I think that's a fair assessment for sure.

As long as it doesn't mean bring in 30 year old has beens.

Stops up investing in exciting youth talent.

And those player are better than what we have.

I said in the summer that I felt amidst all the youth, if we'd have struck early and got a Kimmich in (when he was available) it would've been a great signing - like Naybet was for King or Davids was for Carrick so far as on field teaching and experience.

Spot on Sir

Sit deep/frustrate them/hit on the counter with pace

No one else has been battered quite like we have just been

We played into their hands and the pace they have up front, whack it into the space where our full backs should be and they are through.

Salah had 5 shots in the first 20 minutes according to Sky, we were lucky it was only 6.

Or perhaps that underage football is massively below the level of the PL (it is) and bringing lots of young players into an already young team that is struggling but can be detrimental to good young players. Personally I think the manager has got the balance about right other than not playing Spence enough (though Spence isn’t exactly a youngster anyway)
I wasn't criticising Ange for not playing the youth squad. Just that so many were claiming that they were ready to start wholesale this season when evidently Ang doesn't actually think that's the case.

He's not the main problem.

Sack him now, and you only address the symptoms and not the root cause - nothing will change if we sack him and appoint Iraola or some other yes-man chump, and we'll be here again in 1.5 years shouting about the next guy losing with the patchwork squad and a poor set of players selected not because of their quality, but because they're primarily cheap in terms of wages.

More and more of us are seeing this - I think it's worth persevering with him because it prevents this cycle from repeating again, as it has done for 24 grinding years with 13 managers and only one eternal, soul-sapping constant.
Haha your usual post-loss post! ✅ Although I agree madness sacking Ange.

Fans may make things untenable though.

But sometimes, you look at a manager and say, this is not the right man.

And Ange isn't. We had the right man once, Poch. And Levy with his usual lack of support of his managers, just ran the man into the ground. Now he, is supposedly finally listening, but he has the wrong man in charge.

You need a manager with a bit of nuance about him, swallow his pride and player players because needs must. Like Djed (for so long he didn't), Reg, showing adaptability in squad management, team selection and tactics.

He does none of that, and it doesn't make the fans feel confident.

It may not be
I don’t think the club banked on having so many players out in the same position at the same time
That’s what has hurt him the most

I think we are at the point now, where it’s madness to not sack him.

He’s clearly fudging things up every game.
To be honest looking at the table, I'm just glad the are 3 really bad teams there.

Almost to prove a point I would keep him, awful and clueless but if you sack him you make him a martyr.

Let him take us down to 16th then get rid in February.
