Yeah, I was only joking. It's great that they can finally have a break and don't need to travel this week. Fingers crossed some players are fit and raring to go again soon.
I can't help but wonder how many are injured and how many won't buy into his crazy tactics. Maddison is certainly in the second camp

Would be interesting to hear what players actually think of him and his methods behind closed doors, whether they do actually buy into him or not.

On Maddison I like to think he is genuinely injured. If I was having an indifferent season I'd be keen to get out there and show the world how well I could actually play. But who knows. Maybe we could send a poster up a tree near the training ground to get some real ITK!

Maddison made a comment after a game we won saying "maybe the manager does know what he's doing afterall". He said it in a way to put down the naysayers. So no i don't think he is certainly in the second camp. Even if I am.

My only hope with Madds is that we get all of him back after injury. The end of last season was frustrating with him (and for him) because he was in the match day squad but you could tell he wasn't physically right. No way near 100% match fit with whatever injuries he was recovering from.

I think that's harsh on Kulu and Solanke tbh, but otherwise agree.
Kulu is still young (although experienced) and not in the senior group as picked by ange
Solanke is new so again for my comment it wasn’t them two for sure.
It’s son, Bentacur, bissouma, Davies, Romero (I know he is out), Maddison
Not vicario by the way again for the same reasons as Kulu… young for his role and he leads by example IMO

As I said in my post if the current injury crisis is partly down to Ange, his approach and system then it's also partly due to other factors. Of course one factor is just that injuries will happen no matter what. But if other factors are things such as luck, how the medical staff operates in cooperation with Ange and the coaches that can change.

I think luck is at least one factor. To what extent is of course impossible to know.

I had much more sympathy last season re the injuries. I’d never known anything like it! Every time we got an injured player back, 2 more got injured. It was often a net loss. But it has continued into this season so that is why I don’t really have a lot of sympathy because it appears to be at least some of Ange’s doing. How many players have we lost to due to heavy/bad tackles? I can only think of one which was Bentancur against Villa last season. The rest of them appear to break down in training or in matches. As I mentioned in the injury thread, Solanke has had two spells out already having stated every game for Bournemouth last season, one of the spells was before the Europa League started so we can’t even use Europe as an excuse for that one. Not to mention Maddison couldn’t complete 90 minutes in any game before his injury against Chelsea last season. Something isn’t right, whether it’s Ange’s methods, the medical staff, the conditioning or a combination of the above. It’s just not sustainable to keep signing players if there just going to get injured so frequently.

Solankes first injury was because of a tackle
Romeros was because of his bad tackle
Vicarious was because of a bad tackle from a horrendous back pass
Can’t think of any others

I fully agree that this level of injury problems isn't going to be sustainable.

Is it's all or mostly on Ange he either has to change how he does things significantly or be out the door. Is it's mostly on other issues within the club that needs to change. If it's mostly bad luck we just have to get through it.

I don't know what it mostly is. Don't think anyone outside the club can know.

Interestingly, Vicario was added this season. I dug out the quote from Ange at the start of the campaign.

“Criticism is just part of the nature of football these days. We have had a few under the spotlight. I included him the leadership [group] this year I have just seen his growth. He is one of those guys who is really positive. He comes in everyday wanting to work, he comes in on his days off wanting to work.

“He is a great example for everyone and a great human being as well. I thought he could add something to our leadership group. It’s great for him to get the armband last night and I thought he rose to the occasion. He was big for us.

“He hasn’t had to make too many big saves in the first few games for us but we needed him for a couple last night and he was great.”

I know you're not a fan of his, but objectively I think his work at Chelsea, a team in chaos, when he arrived, was pretty impressive given where he left them. He has provided the base for Maresca to push on this season. Very likely would have done so himself had he stayed on.

I should mention in his last season he had a poorer squad, Kane aside, than what's there now as he dragged it to 4th and the Champions League final. But actually I don't want to go over old ground.

I loved Poch, still do, my heart would love him to come back, but my head says he shouldn't because of the division it would cause in the fan base. I don't think the arguments on glory glory would be good for my mental well-being tbh. My choice is to move forward with someone like Iraola.

It's a bittersweet feeling with Poch, I haven't wished him any ill will (maybe i did when he joined Chelsea but i can't remember) and I'd rather things had gone better for him since he left. I find it a bit odd the pedal stool that he remains firmly on with largest groups of fans whilst those fans spit on the ground at the mention of other managers, but I wouldn't go as far as saying I'm not a fan. It was a no win situation at Chelsea with the board but they did look good at the end of the season, when it was too late.

Poch will however always have that mark of doing so well with us but not quite having enough to take us over the line with such a quality team, but we're veering back on to old ground like you say mate.

If he came back I'd have a very bad feeling but I would support him as best as I could. I'd prefer that to Mason because at least Poch might work out, Ryan is a temporary bodge-job waiting in the wings to swoop in, needs to get a proper job somewhere imo.

Liverpool had a second string team without a large number of first teamers play at the weekend. Those players weren't knackered either and they did really well...

Such a strange argument.
Liverpool failed and embarrassed themselves at the weekend. That team was good enough to beat Plymouth and they should have.

Using your argument, none of the current players are good enough to be playing for us.
If so, that's rather concerning, because they are our rotation options and should be ready for the first team - they are better than championship level

I think they binned it on purpose.

They are in a great position. All about confirming CL qualification for them.

My point was more about expectation.

Do we really expect to beat everyone in front of us with so many out and those left knackered?

It seems people are judging results in isolation as they are frustrated, with some entitlement in winning.

My example is that anyone can and will struggle when in our position.
