Andre Villas-Boas - Head Coach

You really need to try harder. Or pay more attention in reading others' posts.

I have no problem admitting fault - and so shouldn't you having recently proclaimed youself as a unbaised and fair poster

So where are the tweaked stats to include the Saudi Sportswashing Machine game?

The clear cut chances debate is an opinion so neither side can be factually wrong. What's funny is that it will probably be only you and Leeds that are of the opinion that we've created more than enough chances in those games and it's the finishing that is letting us down..that's what you said right?. Despite the 'debate' me and steff are having he's still admitting we're not creating enough or playing well but again it's opinion (like your opinion being Dembele's goal is a clear cut chance).

He may have been the most successful, but he did it with by far the best players we've had since the PL began.

Put half of Barca and half of Real in our team and even I'd probably be a successful manager. Give Redknapp Hoddle's team and I guarantee we don't get 4th.

I don't think that at any time during Redknapp's time our team played as more than the sum of its parts.

Most successful - yes. Best? Not in my eyes, not even close.

So who is the best in your opinion?

The debate may be that "best" =/= "successful"

I think BMJ was our best manager, because I just loved what our club was with him in charge. He didn't have the success of Redknapp, but then he didn't have the calibre of players and the more settled squad that Redknapp had as well.

One aspect which I found very promising is the fact AVB kept referring to the club as 'WE' pretty much from day one. None of this 'THEY' and 'Tottenham','Idiots', etc.

One club - one unit - one ethos.

To be fair Steff, the whole Harry thing came up because of someone defending AVB saying he was 'stopping the rot'. I then questioned if there was any serious rot etc. Whole thing then went off like bangers in a bucket.

The fact we have people 'defending' him after 11 games is pretty shocking in itself to be fair - it clearly implies attacks have increased in intensity - having lost to teams turning-over quadruple our wages annually and operating in detached from reality financial landscapes.

What do you consider the minimum 'grace' period for him to repair the damage (some of it could be irrevocable, mind you), implement his ethos and overhaul the tactical and mental approach of the squad?

How long would you offer to a man who appears to be implementing a medium-to-long term project here, not boosting his retirement fund or internation football CV per se? 1 season - 2 may be? Because some on here seem 'done' after 10 (ten) bloody games which is quite frankly preposterous.

I like this thread especially Steff and KD - I think I would like to promote a fight between you two and have it on GG ppv. I'd make a fudgein killin.

Maybe mud wrestlin between women beforehand. Maybe naked women holding up 'round number' cards... Lennox Lewis presenting maybe along with yours truly.

You guys are talking about 'damage' as if we were in fudgein turmoil. You guys are over sensationalising and its an exageration. At that time we weren't successful results wise and that's due to our squad. We keep harping on about this but Harry was not given the funds. We spent 60m this summer that's as a result of Harry selling players, reducing wages by sending out the likes of Jenas and Bentley on loan. Had we brought a striker in jan we would have finished third easily as the team were still performing adequately and creatin chances.

Anyways what's done is done at present we still need substantial investment in our squad both first team and back ups. I am fearful but also hopeful that once we get all our injured players back we will get back on track.

I hate this pro/anti gonads. I'm just pro patience and anti bandwagon.

We don't have the money to buy a regular champions league team in the short term.

Unless we get bought out, the best way for us to create a team of any effectiveness is to get a manager with a long term plan and stick with it until it beds in. Then we can develop a system of play with players comfortable using it. Shaktar are a great example of a team being better than the sum of its parts but it took years

DHSF - why do you always advocate for physical violence as means of debating or resolving issues?

I awlays saw you as a cut above that, tbh

Or do you enjoy watching men going at each-other? :)

I just wanna make money dude haha

In all seriousness this thread has been goin round in circles and what it does show is that there are things wrong within the club. We say money is an issue which means we should be frugal and instead we are buyin players AVB didn't want (a calculated assumption). So if we are buyin players the manager doesn't want then AVB can't do the best he can which means we won't perform as well as we can.

Which then comes back to Levy and his chairmanship so to speak.

If AVB did want those players we brought then we can't complain about squad size and quality. There are players he isn't utilising through our injuries such as Sigg or Loris.

Then its AVBs issue and we shouldn't be citing injuries as a constant excuse.

What Harry was great at was recognising tehe strengths and weaknesses of players. Yeah he tried players in various positions eg Bale on the right but predominantly he played players in their positions. What AVB is doin is trying to fit players in a style they seem to be hindered by and that's not bringing the best out of them.

I'm not trying to continue a harry v AVB debate but we had it fairly good in terms of football and 'success' over the last few years and its difficult to accept we have to go through ANOTHER transitional period.

DHSF - which players did we buy that AVB didn't want?

Siggy and Vert - based on buying them before he was barely mooted as the new Manager

Lloris - based on his lack of appearances

Dembele - whilst I'm extremely glad we got him let's be honest he wanted Moutinho.

I will also argue Dempsey but only because I can't imagine that AVB thought he could replace VDV as a creator etc.

Like I say we can't say for sure whether he didn't want any of them he may well have wanted all of them. That's 60m worth of signings there.

Vertonghen was a no-brainer, mate - we needed a class CB and any manager would have had one on his shopping list

Plus - why wouldn't AVB want a quality player like him?

Sigurdsson signed after AVB was announced so surely he must have given his approval on it?

Lloris is a long-term investement for the club - again, a class player in a position we need upgrading. There is no way he would have been against it seeing that Brad is 42 soon.

I thihk he also wanted Moutinho in addition to Dembele as both can fit into his formation.

11 games and fans are already throwing their toys out of the prams, what ever happened to giving a man a chance its madness.

dont know about that

Gylfi never met AVB until after he signed. He only met Levy

Met in person or had contact with him via other means of communication

Also - do you not find it plausible while Levy was finalising contract terms he said - 'Hey Andre, this is one of our targets - young, good potential, VdV to walk soon - what do you say, hombre?'
