Are people really 'throwing toys out of the pram' though, or more just expressing a bit of concern at our performances? (with the exception of a couple of peeps). I for one wish to GHod AVB succeeds, because if he does then the team that I love succeed. That's the bottom line.
Everybody (I would hope) wants him to succeed - but some of the revisionism and rose-tinted spec on is predecessor comparison was OTT - hence the 'debate' which followed

Certainly there is a lot of truth in this. Redknapp did not make wholesale changes. But I would thought this illustrated the point that he was the best we've had in the PL era? As surely only Jol comes close and he had largely the same players (even the early Redknapp signings included 3 resignings!) but was floundering in his last full season. In his that season, he actually had a better forward line than compared with the one Redknapp got in the CL with. Jol had the pre-Liverpool Keane, Berbatov, Defoe and Mido. Redknapp had the post-Liverpool Keane, who was so poor he was shipped off to Celtic to be replaced by Gudjohnsen in the winter window, Crouch, who is/was a useful player but no Berbatov and the ever average Defoe. And Pav and Mido? The toss could be argued on one being more toss than the other.
Really, the only key player that Redknapp had that Jol did not was Modric. At the same time, it also needs to be considered that the league had moved on by 2010. We had Emirates Marketing Project behind us in 5th, Villa 6th, Liverpool 7th and Everton in 8th. This compares with Everton, Bolton and Reading (6th-8th) in 2007. So he might have had a stronger squad that anyone but he had a much stronger competition to deal with.
Andre Villas-Boas believes Tottenham "have to" finish above Arsenal this season to get fourth spot.
The last time Spurs finished above the Gunners was in 1995 - before manager Arsene Wenger took charge.
Asked ahead of the north London derby this Saturday if that was a realistic target this season, Villas-Boas said: "We have to.
"By what I see, it's obvious that Man United, Emirates Marketing Project and Chelsea are into a big running towards the title."
He added: "To play for that fourth spot, I think you know it's difficult bearing in mind the amount of competition you have to beat."
Tottenham are currently in seventh place in the Premier League table and a point ahead of the Gunners after 11 games. Spurs are seven points behind third-placed Chelsea and 10 behind leaders Manchester United.
Last season Arsenal finished third and Tottenham fourth, but Spurs did not qualify for the Champions League due to Chelsea's victory in the Champions League.
Yet former Chelsea boss Villas-Boas, who takes charge of his first north London derby, believes Tottenham are getting closer to Arsenal.
"Recently, they have obtained more Champions League qualifications, so our objectives for the season have been within their reach for the last couple of years.
"We are certainly getting nearer in terms of what we are doing for the club, but the past shows that at the moment they are regular in obtaining those sorts of objectives."
Villas Boas also confirmed Belgian playmaker Mousa Dembele remains ruled out with a hip injury, after it had been hoped he would return.
Dembele, 25, who scored on his debut for Spurs in the 1-1 draw against Norwich, has missed the club's last eight games.
Villas-Boas said: "Dembele does not have a chance, not for this game. There is a 50% chance he will be back for the Lazio game."

Who were all underperforming when Redknapp arrived and who REDKNAPP got the best out of. Redknapp was the one who identified that we needed a decent DM, something Commolli never got right.

Who's better than? Gross? Ramos? Francis? Santini?
He did have one of the best Spurs squads, but he took a club that has a history of choking and letting you down to the Champions League quarter final and finished above teams who massively outspent us. We would have more than likely had 3 straight top 4 finishes if it wasn't for Emirates Marketing Project.

I think Jol did far better considering he didn have Modric or VDV.
Second paragraph makes no sense. We'd have probably had 3 straight titles if it weren't for Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and City.

Is your hatred of him that strong that you refuse to acknowledge what he did at Spurs? Redknapp didn't have Berbatov, he didn't have Keane in his prime either. Jol had Bale, Redknapp got the best out of him.
City took our place in the top 4 in 10/11 so it does make sense. They'd be nowhere near us if they were forced to play by the rules financially.
