Andre Villas-Boas - Head Coach

Wasn't Redknapp offered a new contract when we were sitting third and he'd just been cleared in his court case? Think Levy needs some work on his "getting rid of manager when he wants them out" skills ! Seems like that would be the opposite of wanting them out wouldn't it?

i dont think we were that quick, Harry walked out of court in the morning and Fabio walked out of the FA in the afternoon

Were we in free fall?

Youre basing the decline of the second half of the season on results solely. Our performances were still fairly good barring one or two really bricky ones. We were still creating chances and opportunities the only difference was that Ade, VDV and Defoe etc did not have shooting boots on. We were still creating and statistics always showed around 20 shots on goal etc. Perfect example was QPR away it wasnt the best performance but QPR barely created and stats showed we had 20 on goal and majority of possession. We be lucky to get two or three now and lucky to even compete int he possession statistics.

Yes - I believe we were

Arse (5:2) L - embarassed (second half was pathetic)
Utd (1:3) L - embarassed
Norwich (1:2) L - embarassed (pathetic game)
Stoke (1:1) D - we equalised in the 92 minute - at home!
Everton (1:0) L - outplayed
Sunderland (0:0) D - deserved nothing more
Chelsea (0:0) D - fair result, could have gone either way
Villa (1:1) D - should have won that game, he brought on Scott Paker when we needed a goal - says it all

What date did the England speculation begin?

fudge it. Not going down this path again.

HARRY HAS GONE AND AVB IS HERE. THAT IS THE REALITY. HE AIN'T COMING BACK EVER. I HOPE HE GETS SENT WHERE HE BELONGS TO GET BUMMED IN PRISON. TAX DODGING BENT AS A NINE BOB NOTE ****.

Just looking through the results, and I hate to say it but there's almost a common theme in the games we lost. Ledders was playing in them, and it coincides with when he really started going downhill.

We should have easily beaten Chelski that's for sure. They created fudge all whilst we missed around 4 clear cut chances.

Everton also was a game of 2 halves with them controlling the first and us unlucky not to equalise in the second (Saha missing a sitter at the end).

20 games from the Emirates Marketing Project 3-2 loss, when the 'rot' and 'freefall' started.

20 games
9 wins
7 losses
7 draws

Hardly bloody freefall is it?

Not true - let's get the timeline straight here

It was 17 league games from the City loss, not 20 - but that's not entirely correct either

It was 13 league games - starting from after the Saudi Sportswashing Machine game and the time Capello resigned

5 losses
4 draws
4 wins

1.23 points per game - 46 points over the whole season

Prior to the Saudi Sportswashing Machine game (including)

25 games

4 losses
5 draws
16 wins

2.12 points per game - 81 points over the whole season

and embarrassed against united? we dominated the first half and they did nothing until the 46th min where they scored the most undeserved goal ever. Even the 2nd half was a 50/50 contest with them being incredibly clinical.

It was quite widely reported at the time that Redknapp was stalling on contract talks as he wanted the England job and a new longer contract would mean more compo for Spurs from the FA that they would be unlikely to want to pay.

I don't think it takes a genius to work out that the reason Levy would want to tie his manager down to a new deal would be to A) to keep him (we were 3rd at the time the England job came up) and B) that if he did leave we'd have to be well compensated. Either way that's a man looking out for the club not his own ego.

Exactly - why the other was merely interested in his own agenda and couldn't give a chicken bone about us. So why should we have kept him when his little exit-strategy back-fired.

And then he tried to put pressure on Levy to bring that contract again :ross:

Performance wise you're right imo we still played well and was still creating chances but defensivly we started looking suspect. We had a few shockers (Gooners away, Norwich home being two incredibly poor performances) but in terms of performance we actually played better football in that apparent "free fall" period than we've done this whole season.

That is not difficult at all !! We've been shocking so far.

Although mitigating circumstances, with key players being sold and key players being injured / not fit. Modric, VDV, sold, King retired, Parker, Kaboul, BAE, ADE injured and big money quality replacement Dembele injured as well. That's 7 players out from the team that was playing last season and our new very good playmaker unavailable for half the games as well.

I'm definitely willing to give AVB time taking the above in to account.

tbh i did want Arry gone though at the end but it wasn't for footballing reasons. Just thought he took his eye of the ball and adopted a 'all or nothing' approach to certain games simply because he thought he was leaving and if it actually worked he'd have looked like a genius. Was thinking more about himself than the team so he had to go sadly.

Even so - how is that even related to the above discussion? :~

We are looking at last season's peformances only - it's similar to comparing those to the 60/61 season and saying we were shyte

hmmmmm nah even with the squad we currently have we shouldn't be getting tactically outsmarted by teams like Norwich, WBA and wigan who actually all probably deserved more then 1 point (yeh Wigan got 3 but the other 2 probably deserved 3 points themselves). It's tactics and player interactions thats the big problem but AVB has also done a lot of good things (Away we look dangerous).

It's the AVB thread, where else should it go, I was directly responding to King Dawson's comparison.:~
