American politics

The woke insanity.
CRT
White Privilege
Ignoring concerns regarding immigration.
The endless hate towards men, especially white males
Etc etc

And no the UK won't learn anything.

You only have to look at UK politics thread, where if you raise concerns about immigration etc you are labelled a racist c*n, told you are talking rubbish, get laughed at...

The left/Democrats are their own worse enemy due to their arrogance and complete lack of ability to understand the consequences of their actions/policies.

Its happened aross Europe, the UK and America. Labour got into power because of the collapse of Tories, not because people they won. Starmer got less votes Corbyn.

Now the Ukraine is f*cked
Trump is in power
And the left will learn jack sh*t and come up with BS excuse after BS excuse.

When the answer is so simple.
Those are way more right wing talking points than actual things Harris or the Democrats have been focusing on in their campaigns imo.

Biden/Harris haven't ignored immigration at all, but get called open border advocates and it sticks.

Harris moved to the centre, even got the help of a bunch of Republicans to try to move the ever shrinking centre to her side. It isn't there and there is no centre to run to that won't get you labeled a Marxist, socialist, wokeist, open border whatevers. And a lot of people will believe that no matter what reality is.

The left and the Democrats are far from perfect. But Trump, Trumpism, MAGA, project 2025 and whatever follows isn't on the left. That's all on the right.

Exactly.

Ignore at your peril.

And the left/Democrates did and will continue to do so.

Perfect post. Hope that Labour learn from this.

Republicans have won control of the senate and the vote to overturn the new abortion law in Florida was beaten as well. Turning into a great night for Trump.

The war will end alright. Just not the way they think.

No easy feat. But if Trump does manage to end the war wouldn't that be something to celebrate? The banal way so-called liberals happily throw (young) human life into the meat grinder from afar is quite disgusting. I am no Trump supporter, but the biases and polarised nature of people's positions on both sides is clear, and potentially damaging. Why shouldn't Trump be celebrated if he somehow manages to end the war?

I don't think he will. But doing the same thing as now does not seem like the answer does it?

The narrative was out there that they were weak on immigration and has stuck. They tried to address it with a cross party bill but Trump made sure it was blocked so he could continue with that narrative. Democrats were really poor at changing that narrative.

How they've handled Ukraine and Israel/Palestine has made them look weak too. If Biden had grown a pair, given Ukraine what they needed instead of looking scared of Putin and given Netanyahu a slap by stopping sending weapons until he did what he was told it would've made him and Harris look like proper leaders. Instead it's Trump that is presenting himself as a leader.

They also fudged up on messaging on the economy which was the biggest concern for Trump voters.

Well that's quite funny, not even close was it.

So what are the reasons that he won, the reasons people voted for him. Can we learn anything for the UK?
I suppose we've learned that people are still susceptible to demagogues, and to having spacegoats on which to blame all of their ills; to being told that there are simple answers to highly complex problems; and that we are now in a world in which one or two highly wealthy individuals can hugely influence the outcome of elections by controlling the media - in particular social media.

It's worrying when it come to Farage and Reform.

If Trump hands Putin what he wants in order to end the war then it will just make him bolder. He'll push his luck somewhere else if that happens.

His way of ending the war will be to cut off funding so Ukraine can’t fight back.

Trump's Republicans stand for nut job policies, but they stand for something and the Democrats do not! All around the world, progressive parties have allowed drones such as Nancy Pelosi to run them. You know that Nancy, who thought it was a good idea to showcase her kitchen, that was more expensisve than most American's houses. She is just so in touch. The same will happen to Labour, unless they start standing for some things that resonate with ordinary people. Nationalizing the water companies would be a good start and cleaning up the putrid water ways of Britain in doing so .

If someone invades your country would you not fight back? And let's be clear it is Putin throwing his young men into the meatgrinder of war too. That is his main tactic. Appeasing Putin will only expand the war to somewhere else.

I mean we're nearing WW3 at the moment, Biden hasn't done much in the middle east for example yet has the ultimate leverage in weapons - that cost them hugely I think.

I'm still surprised but Harris had a terrible campaign, didn't do any interviews for ages then when she did said she wouldn't change anything about the last 4 years and couldn't give a straight answer about anything. Seems a bit out of touch having every rally packed with celebrities as well.

Maybe a few more celebrities would have made the difference.
Perhaps they didn't work hard enough to make sufficient people hate and/or fear Trump.
